My wife and I are planning to take our 3 year old son to WDW next fall. This is our first trip there and we are kind of overwhelmed as to what packages we need to consider. We won't be going to more than 1 park a day, so we have almost completely ruled out the Hopper. Where should we look for discounts? What are some ideas as to how to save $. We live outside of Pensacola, so it will be about a 7 hour drive.

Answer
With a 3 year old I can understand not wanting to do a hopper. As the family gets older know it is a fun must. :)

As far as your quesiton you want to stay on property. Forget the fact that people say outside hotels are cheaper and have shuttles. Know you can pay the exact same if not cheaper on property and the shuttles they offer only run specific times. We have gotten Value Resort rooms for as low as $63 a night during the off season... no safe nice place off property can offer that. Not to mention if you drive it is about $14 a day to park at the parks. By staying on property you will not have to worry about that and plenty of modes of transportation to get you to and from the parks, resorts and Downtown Disney.

Depending on how much your family eats the only other thing you might want to look into is the meal plan. I would either go with the Quick Serve plan or the One Snack, One Quick Serve and one Sit Down a day. Can be a fun way to enjoy the parks even more and eat at some great places. I am sure your 3yr old would not enjoy the fancy sit down places but you can use those credits on Character Meals which I know they would love.

Another perk to staying on property is you do not have to carry your gifts around. If you want to buy something in the parks or downtown disney you can have it taken back to your resort for free. Can make a great way to sneek birthday or holiday gifts without your child knowning.

Overall though, stay on property, adds for extra magic you wont want to miss out on. Also be flexible on when you can go, if you can skip peak times you can save hundreds of dollars. Be sure to book through Disney too.

my wife of 20 years is having her 47th b-day on the 30th,and i basically suck at buying gifts for her! She's very attractive, loves the simple thing in life and love surprises. we have a great marriage ( in all ways! ) very open and share everything together. i need some romantic ideas (anything goes here!) and gift suggestions...I do have some ideas romantically but would love more advice..thank y'all for any ideas!

Answer
Congratulations on the 20 years of marriage. (:

If she's a simple gal and perhaps going out doing the traditional stuff (dinner, movies, spas) is not the way you want to go, I would suggest finding a nice recipe and make her a romatic dinner with candles everywhere, birthday cake and all. Fireplace roaring, glass of wine (or whatever) and talk while she sits and watches you cook. Talk about your ideas for a vacation together, etc.

If having lots of friends around is the ideal, plan a quick surprise party either at your house or a local establishment.

If actually BUYING something is your dilemma and jewelry is not the answer, think of something that she can enjoy year round or a gift that keeps on giving. Golf lessons, cooking class, favorite magazine subscriptions, a Nook from Barnes and Noble if she's a reader (they are coming out with a color touch screen version soon, if not already out.) How about a pet! (:

Just some random ideas outside of the spa idea everyone else has.
