My 5 year old nieces birthday party is this weekend and I was wondering what to get her ??? I want it to be something really cute and something she will love and use ....

Answer
My girls love crafts. They've gotten gifts like a make-your-own-scrapbook, decorate-a-magic-wand, paints, markers, stickers, stamps, etc. Melissa & Doug have some really cute things.

If she's a girly girl, she may like books like Fancy Nancy or Pinkalicious.

Dress-up clothes and accessories can be fun, too. When my younger daughter turned 4, one of her favorite gifts was a box of dress-up shoes, and she played with those for more than a year before she outgrew them (and she has pretty big feet).

Another great idea is a tea set.

Or go with a summer fun pack -- flip flops, sunglasses, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, sun hat, squirt gun, and/or other outside toys.

Does anyone have ideas for an alternative to a Party Favor bag?

Q. My 5 yr old daughters bday is coming up. Party favor bags are fun, and deemed necessary for proper party ettiquete. However they are expensive, and basically filled with usless crap. I am wondering if there is an alternative? Perhaps something small and with more worth then candy or cheap crappy toys, that is fairly inexpensive that I can give out as a parting gift?
Thanks

Answer
I totally agree. I call those goody bags full of cheap plastic junk "bags of crap". We can all do without another bag 'o crap. Most of it I throw away anyway within a day of my kids bringing them home. I have done books as well; trickier with 5's as most of them aren't reading yet, but I've bought boxed sets from the Scholastic book orders the schools send home and given those books out; they end up being about $2 each. I will give a book with a fancy lollipop (hard to describe but it's on a 10" stick with a heart or flower shaped candy piece at the end. That way there's still the candy element but not so much that it's overkill. With 5's you need to assume a parent will read the book; go with something with mass appeal like Strawberry Shortcake. Maybe if you go the book route you can consider those paint with water books.

I've also given out seasonally appropriate t-shirts; one of my daughter's birthday is in May and I have given out patriotic tshirts (in stores for Memorial Day, continue wearing all summer/4th of July.) These shirts are easy to find at Target for $5; a little less at Kohls if you use a coupon. Again I package with a lolipop. I have seen them on kids all summer. Other friends who feel the same way have given out hula hoops, those skip-it things (like a jumprope that attaches to your ankle and has a ball at the end), and a stuffed fairy. There are a lot of perfectly cute toys out there in the $5 range; too cheap to give as a gift but perfect as a "party favor" which is what you are giving instead of a bag of crap.

Five year olds might not "get it" right away as to why they aren't getting a plastic bag filled with yo-yos that don't work, teeny paper pads they don't use, etc. but it's fine to explain you are giving "one nice thing" instead of a bunch of "little stuff your mom just throws out".

How to tell someone their birthday gift is still in the mail?

Izzy

My Grandma's birthday is today, but her gift didn't arrive on time! What would be the best way to tell her this? How should I phrase it? I would like to write it inside her card, unless that sounds like a bad idea. The gift is a book written by authors local to our area about women in the civil rights movement, one of whom is my mentor.

Answer
Are you seeing her today? Take her some flowers or a bit of her favorite candy, whatever, and tell her that her present is en route. You could add that as a P.S. to the other birthday sentiments you put in her card.
A special grandmother merits a special present.
Happy Birthday!

Birthday ideas for Grandma from baby granddaughter?

Proud Momm

My mom's birthday is next week and I wanted to get her something special. My daughter is 8 and a half months old. I've already given her a couple frames for past gifts with my daughter's picture in it, so anything other than that. My mom loves the outdoors and gardening. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for your help.

Answer
A scrapbook/memory book may be a good idea. You could make a book of pictures of your daughter growing up or just include pictures of your daughter and her together. You could also include special pictures or drawings your daughter has made through out the years.

Remarkable Memories designs scrapbooks with photos and memoriabilia provided by you and has it printed, bound into a photobook and shipped directly to you or you can just purchase the digital files and have it printed on your own. Check out RMScrapbooks.shutterfly.com or RMScrapbooks.blogspot.com for ideas or help putting this together.

For my little cousin's 1st birthday, I bought her a toddler pool and a bathing-suit to go with it. Actually something usable (not just another toy) and ended up being Multi purpose. The Mom ended up blowing it up and putting it in her playroom she LOVED crawling in and out of it and playing with her babies in it. : )

I work at a law firm as an intern and 4 other interns and I have decided to get our Boss a birthday gift. She is actually a lawyer at the firm, a nun, and shes well in about her 50-60s. She is simple and doesn't really wear anything fancy. Any ideas? We don't want to do the cliche and dust collectors of plaques or office stuff; its a waste of money. We want to get her something she would actually use and appreciate.

Hire a male stripper.

What good birthday gifts would you recommend for my boyfriend?

Sweet One

I want to come up with a special birthday gift and am not coming up readily with ideas. I wanted some help as I brainstorm. He's 36 and originally from Europe but we live in NY. He is a software engineer and has a phd in Physics so loves science stuff and technology. It would be great if the gift could be personalized but that's not a deal breaker. He has a personal trainer which he goes to once a week and he also has been taking drumming lessons, so has a small bongo drum (starter one). He enjoys world music.

Of course we love each other very much as well and have been together for about 1.5 years. We are talking seriously about marriage and so I think that is in the near future.

Any ideas for a good gift?

Answer
hi,
well, you're in NY, perhaps you could find a beloved band or musician playing in the not-too-distant future to get tickets to?
or, there's a billion clubs, like the blue note, for dinner and a show, or find a dinner then come for the show.
he must love the american museum of natural history (if not, there's dozens of other museums that may be of interest to him), perhaps get him annual membership or tickets to a special exhibition? or, some showing at the planetarium?
a trip home? (dunno how much you're looking to spend)
spend a weekend (or however long is manageable) and take a road trip, there's seriously about anything you could look for within 50-300 miles of nyc. go to mit - dunno, they might have an interesting lecture... washington dc, the smithsonian has amazing exhibits. or just crazy like casinos - atlantic city, the poconos, upstate ny, all points anywhere. you could go spelunking, the baseball hall of fame, niagara falls (no barrel runs, lol), run off to chi-town, philly, lake placid, heck, montreal is a 6-7 hour drive from nyc, anyway, you get the point about travel.
maybe an experience together could be more gratifying and memorable than a specific item?
skydiving? lol. see the races at watkin's glen, or just tour, wherever the mood strikes him. if you're interested in the travel thing you could join aaa and get regional guides for free (with cost of membership, of course) which tell you about what any little town has to offer. maybe you have a friend that is a aaa member who could order guides for you?
maybe see what festivals are coming up within 300-400 miles. maybe something he likes? lol, ya never know if there will be a software engineering/physics/technology fest... maybe the jacob javitz has something coming up?
sorry, i can't think of any specific item to give him... i once gave my brother (a geotechnical engineer) a "stop plate tectonics" t-shirt... but, he's only my bro, not the love of my life.
well, happy hunting for an amazing surprise!!

lol, you could always incorporate the first response into a road trip

I've come up with two good gift ideas: sheets for his bed, its a California King water bed. OR a pair of pants, hes 6'4 and weighs 140lbs, he has like 2 pairs of decent pants the rest don't go down to his feet.

I'm leaning more toward the pants, problem is I have no idea what size he is. I don't want to ask him because then he'd know what I was doing. How can I figure out his size? without him knowing?

OR what would be a better gift idea?

Answer
Ask his parents or his brother s/sisters to help out in finding the size of his pants.

Help with mother daughter bday party?

I need some help..me nd my moms birthdays r ten days apart nd there is a 20 yr age difference..I'm turning 30 nd she is turning 50!! Both major milestones..I am having a big combined birthday for us but I need ideas..I need a theme nd a slogan nd party favor ideas!!?? I want it to be fabulous!!

Answer
Actually , I think you could have fun with the difference AND the similarities. What I mean is; you could have the gift table separated with one sign: FABULOUS AT FIFTY and another one, FLIRTY 30. So the presents are separated as well as the theme BUT the decorations could still easily go with princess pink items and decor. On the present table for mom: a poster in the background of like Starsky and Hutch or Meatloaf and for you- well whomever you loved in high school! I would have your background music playing both of your oldies and goodies random like.
Appetizers can be anything BUT i would go to one of those candy bulk stores that have the old fashioned candies and scatter them on the dessert table . They don't have to be separated- your guests get the idea. For a fun game- if you have time- your mom needs to write down the dances she remembers or that you find on the internet for the late 70's and early 80's and you write down the popular dances of your teen years. The 30 somethings have to guess how to dance to your mom's list( by only hearing the name) and her crowd will have to figure out how to dance to your list. It could be really fun. Have your generation music to dance by. If you don't like to dance try doing a trivia contest with each generation having to guess the others television shows. Oh and your overall slogan for the Invite? You are too young- but there used to be a commercial where the young guy grabs the woman and says; wow! Mrs. ..... I thought you were your daughter...... OR you could be the Trophy Wife Party if you are not married- then Milestones Madame's... have fun!!

How much money do you spend on a newborn for the first year of life?

xxnerdyxgr

I am doing a project in health called baby cost analysis. We are trying to find out how much it costs to take care of a child for the first year of life. I need a few ideas of what to put in. (like what foods, how many diapers you use, how much you spend on clothes that year, what furniture you buy, etc.) If you could help me out I would really appreciate it! Thank you!

Answer
Well i'd have to think about that actually! i have 4 kids, so ill just give you a run down of the starter supplies i got and then how much food, diapers and clothes i bought in ONE months time for just ONE child.

starter stuff-

12 oneses- pack of 4 cost $8
12 pack of socks- $4
12 jumpers 3 pack of jumpers-$8-$12
12 footless sleepers, 3 pack of footless sleepers- $8
4 blankets- $10 a piece
12 recieving blankets i used as burp clothes, 4 pack-$8-$10
baby nail clippers-$2
snot getter (that blue thing you suck snot out of noses with)-$1
Crib-$400
dresser-$250
change table-$250
towels-$10 for nice ones, $3 for regular towels (which i prefer)
baby hangers- 6 pack-$4
baby tub (if wanted)-$12-15
Stroller-$150-$350
portable travel crib-$150-$250
Carseat-$60-200, plus a forward facing seat at age 2 $100-$300, and finally a booster chair for older child, around $40-$80

The occasional purchases-
baby tylenol-$10
baby motrin-$10
mylicon-$10
baby lotion-$5
and other medications- orajel, teething tabs, teething rings, little noses, little tummies (and all medications w/the brand name Little _fill in the blank_)- ranging in price from $2-$10
toys during age appropriate times- anywhere from $5 to $40
Clothing purchased every other month or every 4 months during growth spurts-$150-$300

monthly purchases-
Diapers- 4-6 packs of diapers per month- $10-$15 a piece
Baby shampoo-$5 a bottle
Baby wash-$5 a bottle
Baby food- usually 50-60 cents per jar, when buying around 12-14 jars twice a month
baby cereal-$2-4 per box
baby juices-$5 for a 4 pack
baby snacks-$2-4 per box

Perscription medications when sick-
yearly around $50-$150

and omg there's just so much more when you consider trips needing extra things like smaller travel strollers, diaper bags, special snacks that are travel size or packaged better for travel, shoes when they start walking and it's cold (mine dont wear shoes in the summer unless we are at the park), replacement toys that get lost, replacement socks that get eaten in the dryer, LOL, birthday gifts, holidays, etc.
I don't even want to think about how much i've spent on my 4 children over the last 13 yrs! i just might pass out!

oh btw- i didn't include formula which might be around $150-$200 per month, because i breast fed mine...so should i have included my own nursing clothes? oh well.

Would like the know what quilters are working and share ideas.

Answer
I am pushing to finish a queen size quilt to give to my mother for her birthday in June. I did a block-of-the-month at a local quilt shop and am putting the blocks together in a "on-point" setting with 2" sashing.

My other works in progress:
1. Queen size quilt for my son who is in his first apartment (kit from Joann Fabrics), I am assembling the top.
2. Double size quilt for my spare room bed/ pattern is Diane Webber "Big Blossom Trio" This is cut out and ready to sew.
3. Crib size quilts from "Care bears" panels (2), to be donated to my guild comfort quilt program. These are bordered and ready to layer and quilt.

My other planned projects (have fabric, no action yet):
4. Table runners for my bedroom dressers to match the bed quilt, and runner for SIL for Christmas gift.
5. Memory quilts with fabric acquired on vacations (New Zealand, Caribbean, Hawaii)
6. Crib size quilts for extended family members who are "planning" to start a family soon

And a long list of ideas that might have some fabric already waiting in my stash!

My boyfriend's 18th birthday is coming up! Present ideas?

It gets a bit more complicated: it's a long-distance relationship while he's doing an exchange program in New Zealand, so I want to give him something special. His favorite color is emerald green and he loves music and friends. I am still going to give him a mix cd, but I think he deserves more. ;p Any suggestions?

Answer
Write him a nice letter, and if you want you can write a list of 101 reasons why you love him. Get him a gift card to a music store, great quality headphones, or tickets to a concert by a performer he likes. A silver chain or watch if he wears jewelry. You can always send larger stuff in a package in the mail, so consider a few new pairs of boxers, a picture of the two of you so he has it while he is away, some of his favorite kinds of candy (make sure you send kinds that won't melt) a shirt from his favorite store, anything you think he would appreciate. Good luck!

Good birthday present for my boyfriend turning 21?

Besides alcohol :p

All he ever suggests are clothes, cologne, and gift cards. That's what I always get him!! I don't know what else I can do. He loves sports but I don't have the money to buy tickets.

Any good ideas?

Answer
In society the official age of independence is 18, but initiation into adulthood comes at 21. Yes, the year a person can finally drink alcohol is a significant one, so the celebrant needs to be properly prepared for the first day of that social maturation with the necessary tools to fully enjoy it. Therefore the gifts the recipient receives should not only be items that will hold the memory of the day, they should also be things that will get them ready for years ahead.

A newer, more mature outfit would be called for in order for the recipient to have pleasant memories of their celebration. A more chic look is also a great way to acknowledge their growth and to have them look their new age.

As was mentioned earlier a 21st birthday gift should be something that can be used in many years to come. So add a little to their grown-up appearance by offering them more elegant jewelry and accessories. An earring and necklace set that would capture grace, beauty and intelligence would be a perfect gift for a female. And for the men a classy wristwatch would be idle to have them feeling older and more masculine.

Drinking stuff is of course very appropriate for this occasion. A fun and useful presents would be well designed shot glasses, a drinking flask, wine with quality wine glasses or even better a portable bar set for traveling.

A gift of the drinking experience is also something that the recipient would remember. Giving them the experience of adult nightlife, and sponsoring their drinks for the night would be a generous offer that will be highly appreciated.

A taxi card is the most practical present that can be given to a 21 year old. It is a money card that pays for taxi rides. This item would ensure that the celebrant would always have a designated driver for the days they really need one. It will also keep the partyer out of trouble with the law since they won't be caught driving drunk.

A first aid kit is a definite essential for the days the recipient develops a hang over. It should be filled with basics like aspirin, vitamins, eye blinders, and earplugs. This set would help relieve any morning pains that may come from alcohol.

Good advice makes an excellent and needed gift for the new adult drinker. Stories and experiences make a great teaching tool that will be used for the rest of the birthday boy/girl's life. There are several options you have to make your delivery superb and creative. You can write what you have to say in a card, make a song, make a home made video or even make a poem.

There are several gift ideas that you can come up with, but the bottom line is to be sure that the 21-year old celebrant fully enjoys their day, and is safe from the very beginning of the legalized drinking experience.

What's a good Christmas gift for a 14 year old girl?

Tuyet-Trin

I am looking for a Christmas gift for my 14 year old daughter. She loves fashion, sports, and is between a girly girl and a tomboy. I already got her some clothes and I want to get two more things for her. I don't want to get a gift card for her because her birthday was about a month ago and she has loads of them already. So any good ideas for a Christmas gift please?

Answer
I'm giving my 14 year old all the makings for a Saturday night sleep over. Pizza delivery, soda, chips and dip, different cereals for breakfast, cocoa mix, oj, and even treat bags.

I bought a new sleeping bag, took it out of the box and wrapped it in another box. I used the sleeping bag box to hold all the stuff that would fit, and didn't have to be refrigerated. Then I stuck a note on top before I closed the box, explaining what the stuff was for.

I'd have her open the sleeping bag first, without further explanation, then have her open the party box. What's Christmas vacation without a sleepover?

I got my girlfriend hockey tickets for her birthday, but I don't just want to hand them to her.. I want to make it a fun and creative way to give them to her sence they're not all of her gift.. Any ideas? My mom said to just put them in a card and give them to her.. But I want to be more creative! Any help? :)

Thanks!

Answer
You could buy her something that you know she will not like. So if she hates to read than you could get her a book. Than you could hide the tickets inside the book. When she opens it up you could tell her to look inside the page you hid the tickets in.

Or you could write clues. One clue could lead to another clue which could lead to another clue. The end clue could lead to the tickets

Ok, so, I'm going to be turning 13 at the end of May. I know that it's a while away, but I want to start planning. I don't want to do what I always do, which consist of sleepovers, bowling, ect. Also, I do not have a pool if that's what you are thinking. I don't really enjoy things like hair and nails, and also, I want it to be a boy girl party.

Please help me think of something!!!!!!!

Thankyou.
:)

Answer
You're not supposed to be on here until you are actually 13, you know. Read the Community Guidelines if you think I'm wrong. We are all asked to abide by them, including you.

Anyway, try a volunteer party if you want something really different. Phone around and find an agency that needs help (animal shelter, church project, senior citizens' facility, public library, etc) then have your party be a volunteer day. All your friends meet at your house, go together, work together, and come back to your house for food and gifts and things. It's really a lot of fun.

1. Male friend. 20 years old. Loves Marvel products. Wanting to spend about $20. Will need to be shipped.

2. Female friend. 23 years old. Loves GSDs and Japanese art. Wanting to spend $40-$50. Will need to be shipped.

3. Female friend. 18 years old. Loves turtles. Wanting to spend $20-$30. Will need to be shipped.

Answer
1. A comic book... Try one that he wouldn't necessarily know about. I recently read "Ghost World" which was a good comic book. Search "graphic novels" on Chapters or Amazon and you could find some interesting ones.

2. Buy a "Buddha Board" since she loves art. I got one for my birthday and it's basically a canvas where you use water to paint whatever you like, then it evaporates so you can keep painting on the canvas over and over again. My parents got mine at Chapters, I'm pretty sure.

3. A turtle stuffed animal, a turtle necklace, something turtle-themed from Pier 1 Imports?

I'd suggest browsing through websites and once you find items that you think they'll like, you'll know! You know them better than I do :)
Plus, today is Cyber Monday, so take advantage of it!

Happy shopping!

Birthday gift ideas for a 19 year old male?

Devastatio

I got him an iPod Touch 4G with engraving on the back for Christmas and he really loves it. And now I can't seem to beat that idea.

He's geeky and likes video games, but he already has all the games he likes.
He likes geeky shirts, like the Breaking Bad shirt I got him which he also loves, Star Wars, Spiderman, DC characters etc.
But he already has all those shirts.

What's something he'd like, within the $40 - 150 price range?

Please don't suggest an iTunes gift card because he rarely buys things from the App Store, and don't say a nice dinner, because we're currently in a long distance relationship.

Something awesome and practical like an iPod Touch would be a great suggestion. Thank you! :D

She never really talks about her interests/hobbies. He does know her clothes size though because she is the same height and build as me.

Where can I find a sketchbook with drawn in models?

? ?

My friend recently went on a trip to New York and brought back this fantastic sketchbook that had drawn in faceless 'models' or mannequins, more accurately, in different poses. It was wonderful because she could let all of her fashion ideas loose and draw them on the figure whatever way she wanted. I want to get a sketchbook like this for my other friend's birthday present, any ideas on where I can find one? I live in SF. Thanks!

You can also ask your friend for the exact title of the book, & the publishers. Then you can search for it online or in stores.

Or, if you find the above listings too expensive, you can always download & print free fashion templates & then get them bound together - this would be a customized gift !

Hope these help :-)

Where can I find a first addition of "The Scarlet Letter" by Nathaniel Hawthorne?

Hello. My wife's birthday is coming up in about a month and The Scarlet Letter is her favorite book. I would really like to surprise her with a first addition copy. Does anybody know where to find one? Any other birthday gift ideas would help too. Thanks.

Answer
First edition is "The Scarlet Letter : A Romance" by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Boston : Ticknor, Reed, and Fields, 1850. It is available through Abebooks with prices ranging from $1,000 to $15,000.
You might try a facsimile edition of the first edition, which cost between $25 and $50. Fleet Press, 1969, hardcover edition, would be a good bet.

How to decorate my gold Christmas tree with things to honor the real reason for the season: Jesus Christ?

Janna Wigg

We bought a gold Christmas tree last year after Christmas was over for half off... I have no interest in having anything Santa around until my children are old enough to understand the real reason for this season is Jesus Christ. So I want to decorate my house and tree to honor Jesus but really don't have any good ideas. I'm also interested in being creative and making our own decorations is a possibility.
Thanks for any tips!!

Answer
You should read the book There Really Is A Santa Clause- The History of Saint Nicholas & Christmas Holiday Traditions by William J. Federer. I am reading it right now, and it gives the origins of many Christmas traditions (most of which are NOT Christian). It has been an interesting read for me (I am a Christian) to see that so many of the symbols we use- even those that are NOT Santa related- are of pagan origin. I have not finished the book yet, but I have already found myself evaluating our traditions. I do not intend to eliminate our use of a Christmas tree or wreath, etc., but it has made me reconsider some things. (More below on that)

As for what you can use- I think on a gold tree, white would look great (I say this because we have a miniature white tree that we put gold decorations on and it looked lovely). Stars, angels, crosses, doves, candy canes, bells, etc. Since the song the "12 days of Christmas" has things that symbolized different aspects of Christianity when people could not openly celebrate, you might use some of those on your tree.

You might look at Family Christian Bookstores- my most recent catalog has some decorations in it, several for only $5.98 that I intend to get. One says on the front "I hope your longest list..." and on the back it says "is the one that counts your Blessings" (or something similar to that). Another says "It was never about the gifts..." on the front and has "It is about the presence" on the back. I can not recall what the third says, but it is similar.

Bronners, I think it is, is a Christmas store that also has a website you can order from. They have some lovely ornaments- some of which are Christian in nature. I love one they have that says NOEL on it, with Night Of Everlasting Love on it.

Pack-O-Fun is a publication we use in our homeschool, for arts and crafts and a monthly geography lesson. It has holiday themed crafts, and the current issue is probably full of ideas for things you can make. You can also look up the generic salt-dough ornament recipe and make your own- we bought 100+ cookie cutters from Wal Mart (in the arts and crafts section) that we use. It is a lot of fun.

There are so many beautiful Christmas cards, with both pictures and words, that are often just thrown away. You can use a hole puncher to punch a hole, and then use ribbon to make a hanger for it and put it on the tree. You can also just stick them on the tree. You can also use scissors with a ribbony edge and cut out the sentiments from the inside of the card and hang those.

Visit your local arts and crafts store- they have a TON of crafts for Christmas right now.

Back to the pagan origins, Christ's birthday is not December 25- I am sure you know that. It is when we CELEBRATE hsi birth, but "we" (Christians back then) chose that date because it fell near the winter solstice, a popular pagan feast. "We" then converted many pagan rituals into Christian ones, including the Christmas tree and such. I was recently discussing the book I mentioned above with a friend (a pastor's wife) and she mentioned how the Bible does not tell us to celebrate His birth, anyhow- only his resurrection. That gave me more to consider.

I have decided that the Bible also does not tell us to celebrate OUR births, but we do, and while many of the symbols are of pagan origin, they have no pagan meaning to me- the same as while Halloween may have originated as an evil holiday, it is not such to us (we do not decorate or dress in a scary manner, nor do we go trick or treating, but we do go to costume parties/fall festivals...

"Santa" also comes to our house, though our children do nto "believe" in him. One thing I am considering changing is to do the "Santa" thing in early December, rather than on CHristmas, so that Christmas can be solely to glorify God. Santa, though, comes from Saint Nicholas, a real bishop that the whole secret-gift-giving in the night is based upon and it is a great story for the children (and I see nothing wrong with it, personally, but to each their own).

what are some gift ideas for a pregnant girlfriend who is 21yrs old?

My friend is having a baby in february and wants to get her something special. Any Ideas?

Answer
Please, please, don't get her anything baby related for her birthday. When it's time for the baby shower, get her something for the baby...meanwhile, it's her birthday, so celebrate her!

I might suggest a massage...Many day spa's offer pregnancy massages, which (a) allow her to relax in a way that doesn't interfere with her belly, and (b) will help to relax the muscles that get really sore when a woman is pregnant.

Alternately, there's always the things that the rest of us want, even when we're not pregnant...Diamonds or pearls are always nice! :)

What should I get my pregnant wife for her birthday?

KOTS

I'm having a hard time figuring out what to get my wife this year for her birthday. She doesn't want any clothes, shoes, or things that won't fit or are uncomfortable right now since she is pregnant. I usually get her something that she wants really bad but won't buy for herself and then try to do something unique or special but she doesn't really want anything right now. Anyone have any ideas? I don't want to get something related to the baby because I will do that after the baby is born and I want the gift to be about her.

Answer
Get her some birth control! haha! . . .sorry you probably didn't find that very funny. . .

Get her some jewelery like a necklace or something like that. If she likes being pampered, offer her a day at the spa (with or without you). If she is sore or achy like some pregnant women, she'll appreciate a massage or or maybe a pedicure!

He is a mexican male, looks white, and looks like he might be 28-29 years old!!! He is really into his mexican culture/heritage. Can someone suggest some gift ideas? Thank you :)
Oh, i actually bake myself so i was planning on making his favorite chocolate cake. I kind of wanted to buy him something, but its so hard to shop for boys!

Answer
since you bake yourself, take him while you prepare chocolate.. only if he's interested..
if not, prepare it and give him.. make sure it's full of nuts..

know his needs.. give him what he needs, not what he wants.. this way, he remembers you for a long time..
person around 41 have less desire of blowing candles and cutting cakes..
take him to a place he likes, like go and dance...

a gift of memory lasts longer than a gift of subject.. so, give him experiences not things..

What is a good birthday gift for a mentally challenged 12 year old boy?

I'm looking for birthday gift ideas for a very special 12 year old boy. He is mentally challenged, but is very bright. I know that he understands and can do plenty of things, but he just has a hard time with communication. He can play computer games and understands everything you're asking him to do.

Any ideas?

Answer
If you want to go with a toy, just cruise the toy isle at any store and pick out what's cool. Kids are kids when it comes to toys, learning disabilities or not :-)

If you are wanting to build on his computer gaming, you could go with Roller Coaster Tycoon. You have to build your own amusement park and roller coasters. Way cool and it exercises learning and critical thinking. Do not fret, it is not too difficult.

If you are looking to facilitate communication, then get a board game. This will require some interaction and speaking on his part but in a group setting with limited stress. The improved Battleship is all computer like with sounds. Cool.

If you are looking to introduce a potential hobby, pick up a model train set. All boys love model trains and the sets are relatively priced at a hobby shop. This could be something that grows with him as new gifts can incorporate more track, figures and buildings, etc.

Remember that Christmas is around the corner so pick up something for that while you are shopping for the birthday so you will not be left in a lurch with bare toy shelves. Good luck and enjoy.

What are some inexpensive and creative ideas for a 20 year old birthday gift?
