My son is gonna be starting kindergarten in a few months and he is a little scared so I wanted to go and get him a backpack and all the stuff with it for his b-day witch is in two he is motorcross so I am looking for a Kawaski backpack does anyone know any web-sites I can order this from. PLEASE HELP I really want to get him this for his b-day and get him excited to go to school

Answer
http://www.kawasaki.com/DefaultFrame.aspx?strContentURL=/Site/PCProductCatalog/PCCatalogTypes.asp?intCatalogId=1

This is the official kawasaki site with their gear. I think you are better off with a generic racing back pack you can find ones with the checkered flags or other racing type stuff at a more reasonable cost and size for a kindergartener .

Another idea is to get a plain backpack that fits him well (adult backpacks are unnecessary for a Kindergartener). Then find a patch or iron on that will make his special for him. If he is getting nervous about school this might better be an activity done together as a surprise birthday gift of this bag you take to school might only make him not want the bag or to go to school!

How would I go about getting this tattoo?

Brittany

I'm getting a new tattoo around christmas time... It's definatly something having to do with my dog. Her paw print is what I want (Not much of a portait and dont want to risk getting an effed up portait done of her.

Though my question is, how would I go about getting her pawprint so I can take it the tattoo shop I'm going to so they can make a stencil to use?
well for one... I think getting a tattoo just to be sexy is effing stupid. if your going to do something that'll be on your body forever, it should have a meaning and that meaning should not be "Because its sexy"

I put months of consideration and thought into my tattoo's so i dont do something i regret.

Answer
They have these gifts at the baby store that are little plaster plaques that you press a baby's hand or foot into and it commemorates special occasions like baby's first Christmas or baby's first birthday. You could pick up one of those, and do your dog's paw print instead. Or get tempera paint from the arts and crafts store (its a powder you mix with water) and make a print of your dog's paw on paper. Tempera paint is what kindergartners use, its washable and non toxic in case she licks it or something. Good tattoo idea, by the way. Good luck to you and happy inking!

I'm kind of low in cash and I can't afford a great big party for her. I do however want to make her birthday special. So, I'm wondering what I can do for her to make her birthday memorable. Of course I'm getting her the cake and all. Any creative ideas will be greatly appreciated!

Answer
buy her flowers. even little girls love flowers.....when we got our daughter floweres when she was 7 or 8 she was SOOO thrilled, and you don't have to get a dozen roses and spend 50 dollars, but a few carnations, tulips, rosebuds, etc in a pretty vase with a pretty ribbon around it is great. Or get her a really cute pair of pajamas and slippers, thats always something they can use.

What should I buy for my good friends 13th birthday(girl)?

What do you get a woman for her 50th Birthday Party?

shershadow

It's a surprise party, and although she is not a close friend, I see her at least twice a month. I really don't want to do the "bottle of booze" gift, as everyone will be giving her that. I thought about 50 scratch off Lottery Tickets, but thought that would be too costly for an aquaintance. Does anyone have any inexpensive ideas for me? I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

Answer
There is a book out called "Boomer Babes" by Linda Stasi & Rosemary Rogers. Its a paperback - Cost $12.95 in Michigan. Its all about baby boomers (female) turning 50. The cover says "A Woman's Guide to the New Middle Ages". If you want to spend more you could always throw in a few lottery tickets. I have the book and its pretty funny. Or else there are always joke books in book stores about being over the hill. Good Luck in your search and have fun at the party. What about a book and 50 jello shots...Obviously when u turn 50 you need a drink!

What can i get for her birthday present?

me

My friends birthday is coming up and i have no idea what to get her.

She's turning 17, and she's really into reading so I was thinking of getting her a book? But what kind of book would be good for a 17 year ikr?

Thanks

Answer
If she's the type that likes to joke and if she's outgoing get her 50 shades of grey. Just make sure she won't be too serious about it. I think it will be the perfect gift.

Should I give cash for my kid cousins for Christmas?

birthday gift ideas girlfriend age 21 image

Damien

Is giving money to kids (ages 5 - 19) a good idea? I don't want to teach them to be greedy, but I still remember what it was like to be in college with no job. Now I'm still in college, but with a part-time job, so now the world has changed for me.

Answer
I think giving cash to your kid cousins is a pretty good idea. Possibly other relatives will inundate them with "stuff", and cash could be a welcome relief.

To make the gift less "greedy", you might include some tiny thing along with the cash: a Christmas poem, an appropriate, friendly Bible verse, a Christmas cookie or candy cane. Also, put the cash into a nice card. If you want, you can include in the card a short, personal note to each kid.

You might also consider how much you will give each kid--or will you give each person the same amount? I wouldn't give $50 to a five-year-old, and $5 may seem too little for a 19-year-old. You could give to each one the amount equal or near-equal to their age ($5 to the five-year-old, $19 or $20 to the 19-year-old), or give $10-$15 to each person.

I'm glad you're motivated by compassion: "I still remember what it was like to be in college with no job." It's good to give to those who have less than you do. For example, I'm fairly poor, and my brother's girlfriend has given me cash gifts for Christmas or my birthday (Dec 21) for a few years now. I appreciate it!

Merry Christmas to you and yours. He is born!

Is a vasectomy the best investment you could ever make? Besides buying a house?

Gonzo

I think I am going to get one with my first paycheck out of college. I'd rather have a dog that pisses and eats everything than a rugrat. Besides dogs are always fun to have and if you get tired of one you can give it away. I guess you can do the same with a kid.

Anyone get the procedure? How long does it take to heal? How much was it?

Answer
I had my vasectomy at 21 (as my 22nd birthday gift). I never wanted kids. I know lots of guys that have kids, as well as quite a handful that made the same decision as you and I did.

Let us examine some of the aspects of having a vasectomy young:

Happiness: If you ask the men whom have kids if they would have done it differently you get some interesting answers: Ask in public, and they will say that they would not trade their kids for anything in the world. Ask in private, they will say, “Why on gods green earth didn’t I use condoms?”.

Economics: Back in 1989 I paid $250 cash. I didn’t have health insurance. I went to a non-profit clinic. That means the cost came to $1.10 per month(over 19 years). Most men, I know pay child support. Most pay at least $300 a month per child. None of this includes paying for school, clothing, bail, and all the other things that kids cost.

So was getting a vasectomy a good idea?: Just one look at all the stamps in my passport, or the photographs I have taken around the world is more than enough evidence that I made the right choice. That is not bad for 15 min on the operating table, two days recovery, and $250!

Is a vasectomy detectable?: There is no scar, and nobody will ever know. Nobody ever needs to know that you got it! I think you should keep it a secret. The reason is simple. At your age, most women are not going to date you if they know you are fixed. When you are older, like me, it is a plus. At my age 1 in 5 women don’t want kids. Two of the remaining 4 have kids that are grown, and don’t want more of them.

About the surgery: It was a “piece of cake”. It took 15 min. I drove myself home. I had it done on a Friday afternoon. I was back to work on Monday. That is it. It hurts about as much as getting a tattoo. That was it.

Novelty: Next year I plan to have a 20 year vasectomy party. Yes, I am so happy about my choice, that the novelty has not worn off in 20 years! In 2004, I attended my 20 year high school reunion. I was amazed at the number of men that did the same.

Health: Many men, my age, whom have kids, look old enough to be my father. I can stand side by side with men that are 10 years younger than I am, and people will think I am the same age or younger. It is not because I stay inside. To be honest, I am very much an outdoor person. It is because I don’t have kids.

BTW: I love my dog, and my Child-Free girlfriend!

My niece will be turning 6 in a few weeks. We'll actually be able to attend her birthday party (we live 6 hours away) and want to give her something that she will absolutely love! Any ideas? I'd like to only spend $50 or less.
Last year I took her on a road trip to our new home in Syracuse, we did Build-A-Bear, a Buffalo Bills Football Game and Chuck E Cheese...we'll never live up to that but want to be a hit nontheless :)

Answer
Art ideas. It's fun to go somewhere like Target or WallMart because you can get sooo much for $50. 6 year olds (I have two girls and we've been to a ton of parties) absolutely love lots of STUFF!! (I guess that might carry over to our adult life). I know if we went a little themeish it was fun too. Animals or stars, moon, sky or princesses. There are so many fun glitter glues, pens, papers, stickers, etc. Have fun! And yeah, gift basket it!

What are some Christmas gift ideas for a 9 and 6 year old girl?

I dont' have much money to spend and it's also my 6 year old's birthday on the 18th of December. They have a ton of toys.
They have tons of dolls and are not really into Hanna Montana
Thanks for all you suggestions

Answer
Definitely Hannah Montana stuff - unless she already has it all! Our six year old granddaughters like making stuff and painting so maybe a craft set for both girls.. Sparkly T shirts are good also hair ornaments for both age groups. Books for the 9 year old if she is a reader.

Merry Christmas.

Can you give me ideas for gift baskets?

birthday gift ideas elderly
on Gift Ideas for Seniors in Nursing Homes | birthday Ideas
birthday gift ideas elderly image

jacquie

I would like to make them for the people on my list this year. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer
This is my specialty, I have made gift baskets for most ocasions arranging from Baby showers, get well soon, child birthdays, valentine's,mothers/fathers day, welcome home baskets for a platoon of US MARINES, and Christmas.

KITCHEN
-If you are doing a gift basket for adult female/or elderly female that enjoys cooking/baking, you could buy mittens, pot holders, dish towels, burner covers, maybe a set of mixing spoons, whisks,a timer, spatula, recipe book, or recipe cards, measuring cups, cookie cutters (depending on the size of the basket) you may be able to add a coffee cup, you could add, hot chocolate mixes, a bag of peppermint sticks, cookie mix, sprinkles (christmas theme-trees, snowmen), and even icing. Who wouldnt love this? All of these items can be bought at a dollar store (which is still in good quality but in lower cost).

SCRAPBOOKING
-If you are doing a basket for someone who is into photography and scrapbooking, you could get a scrapbook, designed cutting scissors, hole puncher, ribbon, stickers, pens, borders, extra paper for the scrapbook, some adhesive, embellishments, and maybe a scrapbooking book to give them ideas. (again things that you can buy at a dollar store).
BATH
-If you are making a basket for a female that is into fashion and personal care, that loves to be pampered or you think needs a little pampering you would want to make a bath gift set for then get a towel and roll it up, tie a ribbon around it into a bow, add bath salts, bath oils, anything for bath or skin that pertains to aroma (relaxing). You can add bath sponges and exfoliators, bath brush (great Idea) facial masks, and bath lotions.

PERSONALIZED COLLECTIBLES
-If the person you are making a basket for is a collector of sorts, maybe Angels, Snowmen, Gingerbread Men, Apples, etc. You can find their specialty on nearly anything. You could find them on dishtowels, jewelry, note pads, stationary, handcrafted porcelains, hand painted ornaments, a do it yourself kit with the ornaments and paint in their theme. That gives them something to do.

CANDLES/SCENTS
-Do they love candles, and always have a wonderful smelling home? They would adore an arrangement of candles, in different shapes and sizes and scents. A few candle holders, or plates, dried potpourri, a bottle of potpourri gel or liquid, even a small potpourri burner would be of taste for this basket.

GARDENING
-Even though it is winter do you know someone who loves planting and tending to flowers and greenery? They would love New gardening gloves, small gardening tools like a shovel, shears, etc. seed packets, gardening books and magazines.

POPCORN/MOVIE
- This is someone who is always renting DVD'S and would rather to curl up and watch this than go out to the theatre.
Instead of a basket in this case, they would love a new large Popcorn bowl, Add several different kinds of Popcorn flavors, (butter, Cheddar, Caramel, ETC.) Add a few really good DVD'S, a box of tissues if they are emotional tear jerkers would be cute. Also, the candy that you get at the theatre in those square boxes, can be bought anywhere for less than a 1.00 these days, add sum Mike and Ike's, Milk Duds and Gummy Bears, then put your bag around this as you would a basket.

BIRDHOUSES
- They love bird watching and have a bird house. Get a hummingbird feader or birdhouse (small of course). For which ever you choose, get the appropraite feed, the sugar water or a small bag of bird seed, a book on bird care, you may also like to add some bird shaped stationary.

FISHERMAN
- Ok, maybe you are buying for someone who spends alot of time fishing. Then buy several different things out of that department (lures, hooks, worms, etc.), a plastic compartment to divide them, maybe a boning knife, fishing line, weights, a multi tool (kind of like a swiss army knife), a fishing magazing.

SEWING
-A smaller sized (travel sized) sewing box, thread, spools, straight pins, a pack of buttons, zippers, a ruler, scissors and cutting tools, needles, a lint brush or lint shaver, stain removal pens, pattern making supplies, maybe even a gift certificate to their favorite fabric store.

CRAFT
- Lots of Crafts. Different mini projects, glue sticks, glue gun, stencils, beads, paints, scissors, glitter, soap making, clay, etc. Magazines or books on craft ideas.

FUN

- Joke books, puzzle books, crosswords, Uno Cards, jigsaw puzzle, a funny dvd or movie, deck of cards, a few gag pranks ( like the baseball for the back window sticker), whoopie cushion, a shock pen, etc.

TEA
-Different flavored specialty teas, tea cups, a small teapot, either homemade cookies, or a few individual packs of cookies, different varieties of chocolate candies, a bag of sugar cubes, and a few lemons.

COFFEE
-A few coffee mugs, a couple bags of specialty groud coffees or gourmet coffees, creamer, a bag of sugar cubes, some sweetner packets, a bag of coffee stirers, top it off with some homemade cookies.

CHILDREN
-Stuffed animal as a center, hotwheels, or some toy you think they would enjoy. Coloring book, crayons, Activity book, reading book, education things (flash cards, etc. [depending on age]), and candy. These things could be put into a stocking instead of a basket as well.

BREAKFAST
- You wouldnt want to add sausages/meats and pershible items to these, due to the last minute stress for making them, the fact that those items could make the others soggy from moisture etc. So If you would like to make a basket for a couple or even a single person. You could buy a mug, or a couple, maybe a matching set. Buy medium size jars of jam, jelly, and perserves (DO A FEW DIFFEERNT VARIETIES) like strawberry perserves, grape jam, and apple jelly. Apple butter, mapple syrup and honey. Add a few varities of coffees and teas and bisquick or jiffy pancake mix. (all of these items can be found in the dollar section of most sotres, big lots, and other discount stores and dollar marts ) You could even buy a small pan for a 1.00 at the dollar store to add to the basket.

FOR EXPECTING MOM
- Are you making a christmas basket for someone who is expecting? You could make a special basket just for their pampering needs. This is probably something they wouldnt even get at their shower and they would enjoy it so. Include candles, anything relaxing like music cds and aroma therapy candles, pretty decorative bath soaps, bubble bath, maybe bedroom slippers, body sprays and lotions, cocoa butter or vitamin e cream (good for stretch marks), a loofah, bath brush or pretty sponge.

INFANT OR NEWBORN
- Are you making a christmas basket for a newborn baby or and Infant? If this is their first christmas you could buy a santa hat, bib, blanket or stuffed animal that says babys first christmas.Lotion, Powders, Body Wash, Shampoos, diaper rash cream, baby wipes, brush, clippers, bottles, bottle cleaner, onesies, booties, and a stuffed animal.

YOUNG GIRL
-Purse, scarf, mittens, earmuffs, nail polish, hair brush, hair ties, bows and ribbons, perfume, glitter, makeup, nail file, mirror, earrings, stickers, fancy pens, paper, journal, etc.

COUPLE
- A light blanket, pair of coffe mugs, hot cocoa mix, bag of marshmellows, a bag of pepermint sticks, a bag of hershey kisses, a few of their favorite candy bars, and a dvd for them to cuddle up and watch together.

FOR SHUT INS OR ELDERLY
-I've also found that baskets with everyday necessity type items and food are great for older people that don't really need any more knick-knacks. Make these as you would a care package, coffee, dried fruits, favorite fruit juice in a can, mints, candy, soap, socks, razor, shaving cream, cans of their favorite soups or food, mini loaves of breads or muffins, teas, soup mixes, noodle mixes, pasta, bag of their favorite chips.

ICE CREAM SUNDAE
- Maybe you are making a basket for a child that loves their ice cream, or even an adult that absolutely loves ice cream. Maybe brothers or sisters, etc. Get some ice cream bowls or sundae bowls, some spoons, and a scoop. Sprinkles, caramel, strawberry, chocolate, pineapple and cherry sauces, and almonds, of course any other toppings you think would be nice. Add a pack of nice cloth napkins.

MEXICAN FIESTA
-Do you know someone who loves mexican foods? Why not make them a Mexican fiesta basket? Find kitchen towels or mittens with chilli peppers on them.Include several bottles, jars, or envelopes of seasonings: chili powder, oregano, taco seasoning, paprika, garlic flakes or powder, fajita seasoning, cumin, dried chili peppers, jalapenos, hot sauce, etc. A Mexican cookbook, cd of Latin music, and dessert items are nice finishing touches.Add snack foods such as tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, black bean dip, cheese sauces, etc.
Add a small bag of black beans, navy beans, pinto beans, or garbanzo beans. Add a small bag of rice. You can also include the makings for Margaritas: Tequila, Triple Sec, Margarita mix, glass rimming salt, drink umbrellas, and fresh limes or lemons.

a birthday gift for someone from virginia?

bluebellez

if i wanted to get a gift for a friend who is from virginia that would remind them of home what would you suggest? she is an elderly woman who lived near Norfolk.... I want to get her something that will be sentimental and have meaning to her and i thought something from her home would be nice. Any ideas?

Answer
Well, from what I know, Norfolk is a big navy town, on the water, and lots of ships and stuff. Maybe think in that direction. Or, Virginia is a pretty historical place, so maybe think like that. Or, try visiting www.virginia.org and look around the site and see if it inspires you. It is kind of difficult I'm sure. Elderly people are very sentimental, and usually like things that remind them of happy times in their past. Only thing I know from Virginia is virginia ham, hehehehe. Not like GA where there are peaches and stuff. Maybe on that web-site it will tell you the state flower or something, and you can get something along those lines. I'm sure she will love anything from you just because you thought enough to give. Hope this helps!

What should I ask for on my 13th b'day?

Shweta

I am a girl, about to turn 13. I am not your usual girly-girl, who likes make-up or dressing up. Though, on the other hand, i'm not too sporty either! I am animal-crazy!! I love cycling and live in Dubai (hot weather). I am quite independant too. Pls give me some ideas on what i can ask for as a b'day gift!

Answer
A dirt bike...just a small one to get started and see if you like it.

A bush baby...super cute super fun little animals!

A new bicycle...but an interesting one like a recumbent bike: http://www.lightningbikes.com/thunderbolt.htm
Or a seven person bike:
http://conferencebike.com/
Or just a tandem bike :)
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tandem_bicycle

How about lessons of some kind? Karate, singing, or something fun you want to learn.

A gift certificate to your favorite store is always good...then you get to choose the perfect thing :)

maybe a special trip with your friends?

A laptop?
An ipod?
A telescope?
A chinchilla?
A cruise? Haha
Maybe a trip to somewhere where you can see lots of animals with your family !

Happy almost birthday! :)

And just so you know I moved away from my home country where all my best friends are to NZ so im planning to make the 21st prezzies very important ...Holla with your ideas:)

Answer
tape down old cds and headphones and cut out musical notes to a canvas. then splat paint of your favorite colors on the canvas by applying a large amount of paint to a large brush and standing far away and spatting across. let it dry. then remove all of the musical stuff (carboard musical notes, cds, headphones) and it should leave the silloutte of musical things with a cool colored backround. they could hang your great original art on their walls and remember how musical and great you are!

anyone have idea what present is not too expensive, but HUGE? for a birthday of a 16 years old girl.?

xtrav2

I live in New Zealand and yeah.. our budget is like NZ$30 left >< We're kinda looking for a HUGE present that she will be surprised of when she sees it.

Answer
Well, you could give her new bed sheets, a chair that folds, some kind of furniture for her room, a movie player, a small TV for her room (you'll have to look at garage sales to get one that cheap). Other than that, if she hasn't asked for a giant thing, you don't have to make it huge. Here's an idea. Give her a gift card for approx 30$. Then she can go out and never be disappointed. After all, teenagers usually like smaller gifts, because it could mean an ipod, cell phone, gaming system, game, etc. Happy hunting!

What should I buy or make for birthday gifts?

Maria Gall

I know this may sound rather odd, but I try to plan financially everything I do a year in advance in hopes to avoid any surprises in my checkbook. Anyways, what should I buy or make for people next year for their birthdays? I preferably want to give them a homemade gift (what are some creative ideas for homemade birthday gifts?), but if that's tasteless I'm open to almost anything.

My best friend will turn 44 years old

My brother, his girlfriend, and a friend will turn 19

Important friends will turn 21, 23, and 24

My boyfriend will turn 27

A dear male friend who's in prison will turn 23 yrs. old

A brother will turn 50 and a sister will turn 40.

My important nieces and nephews between 2-15

Daddy will turn 75 (my mom is deceased)

My other siblings and friends will receive birthday cards.

Thank you in advance as I greatly appreciate your input and advice.

Answer
Wow, organization like that is amazing (if a little scary). Only you know your friends, and your talents (some people should never bake anything for anyone), so suggestions really might not be so good.

For those that like them, how about candles? They are easy to make, all you need is some wax (even from old candles), crayons for color, string (dipped in the hot wax, curled around a pencil on one end, weighted with a coin for the bottom of the candle), scent (or unscented - some people like candles but gag @ the smell), maybe one of their favorites (can get samples sometimes, but oils work best), and a quart or half gallon waxed paper juice or milk carton. This also should prob be done in one of those disposable foil pans.

Melt the wax, adding the crayons, scent (or not). Stir. Cut off the top of the carton where it starts to fold, so that you have just the square. Rest the pencil with the string (wick) on top (the weighted end should be at the bottom of the carton. Pour a little wax in to fix the wick in place in the center of the carton. Give it a little time to solidify (about 20 min-1/2 hr. Stick the whole thing in the fridge or freezer if you want to move it along more quickly).

Get some ice cubes from the tray and fill the carton with them. Stir the wax again (the wax should be hot enough to pour). Then pour it into the carton over the ice cubes. Let it cool & set (give it a couple hrs minumum, overnight is best, or do the fridge thing. You don't want to stick this in the freezer or the water in the carton will re-ice). Peel away the carton.

The ice will have created pockets in the candle and it looks pretty cool, certainly not like a factory candle.

For your friend in prison, baked goods sound like the way to go, perhaps lots of cookies he can share. Or a cd?

Ok, I'm off to finish my Christmas shopping for this year, half of which is still undone!

birthday gift ideas for virgo image

There's an

Virgo birthdays coming up next month.
This is the best idea I could think of for a Virgo friend but I'm not sure she'll really appreciate it..
A photo frame with multiple photos of her at different stages of life, like maybe one of her as a baby, one as a kid with her parents, etc...

She is typically Virgo and doesnt really care for sentiments and stuff
Any other ideas?

Thanks

Do you give both a birthday and bar mitzvah gift, or just one?

wcvic

We are invited to a bar mitzvah. Her son's birthday is the day before. Do we bring two gifts or one? What are gift ideas? Thanks for any help.

Answer
Found this, Should be helpful:

Gifts according to your sign:
Aries (March 21 - April 19)
Active Aries is always looking for ways to stay in shape, particularly during the holiday season... so athletic equipment is usually a good choice. People born under this sign are also fond of the color red, so a cranberry scarf or a scarlet hat could win their favor. If romance is in the air, let Aries know that you put his or her needs first. Buy tickets for two to a sporting event you loathe... or a CD by an artist you can't stand... to win big points with your favorite Ram.

Taurus (April 20 - May 20)
Taurus appreciates any gift that appeals to his or her sensual side. A box of gourmet chocolates, a richly colored tapestry or a soft cashmere blanket are all great options for Bulls. This sign also enjoys having money to play with, so a gift certificate to their favorite store is a welcome option. Always remember that quality is more important than quantity – Taurus would rather have a small bottle of expensive cologne than a carafe of the cheap stuff.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20)
Quick-witted Geminis enjoys gifts that appeal to their sizable intellects. A challenging book is always welcome, as is a magazine subscription. This sign rules the hands, so some scented hand lotion or a sparkling ring might delight. Geminis also love to entertain, so a set of glassware might fit the bill. If you want to splurge on a special Twin, give them the latest cell phone or PDA, so they can keep in touch with their gazillion friends.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22)
Sentimental Cancer loves gifts that have personal meaning. Handmade items always delight, whether it's a finger painting, angora sweater or mincemeat pie. This sign also has a special affinity for silver – a monogrammed hand mirror or picture frame would be very well received. Since Crabs have an affinity for liquids of all kinds, a special bottle of wine, a fancy cappuccino maker or a shiny tea kettle are also good possibilities. And don't forget that these Moon children love the domestic arts – a cookbook specializing in comfort food is another sure winner.

Leo (July 23 - August 22)
Lions love gifts that make them look and feel terrific. Hair accessories, cosmetics and grooming items are all good choices for this image-conscious sign. Leos love drama, and enjoy presents that involve a bit of flair. Opera tickets, gold jewelry or animal print lingerie are right up this cat's alley. Leos also love to gamble, so a sheaf of lottery tickets or a weekend getaway to the casino could make them purr with delight. When shopping for clothing, remember that Lions have a special affinity for red, gold and purple.

Virgo (August 23 - September 22)
Virgins love practical gifts...so avoid dust-catching baubles. A bread-making machine or a power drill would be equally welcome. These folks are also known to pride themselves on their impeccable appearance. Scented soaps, lotions and shampoos made by an earth-friendly company might be just the ticket. Virgos are also incredibly organized and might appreciate a good watch or a leather-bound date book. Or try a health-conscious basket of organic foodstuffs.

Libra (September 23 - October 22)
Librans have a special affinity for music, and always appreciate a good CD to add to their voluminous collection. If you want to do something really special for a Libran friend, splurge on a two concert tickets – this sign hates to do anything alone. Born beneath the sign of the scales, they also need plenty of balance in their lives, so a pair of candlesticks or bookends might appeal. If you're still stumped for ideas, have a lavish bouquet of red roses delivered accompanied by a loving handwritten note.

Scorpio (October 23 - November 21)
Scorpions are secretive by nature and enjoy gifts that obscure their appearance in some way. A pair of designer sunglasses, a filmy scarf or a slouchy hat are all great choices for this sign. These mystery-lovers also enjoy moody, atmospheric stories. A collection of film noirs on DVD are sure to go over well with your favorite Scorpion. The rumors concerning this sign's sexual appetite are happily true, so seductive lingerie would get plenty of use. Since Scorpions also like to get beneath the surface; a gift certificate for a deep-cleansing facial will be appreciated.

Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)
As far as Archers are concerned, half the fun of getting gifts is ripping them open! If Sag doesn't like a present, though, he or she will tell you outright. Avoid awkward scenes this holiday season by giving this outdoor enthusiast some camping equipment. Hiking boots or a water-proof parka would also be appropriate. These animal lovers adore any gift associated with their pets. A calendar filled with pictures of dogs or horses is sure to elicit a big smile. Finally, you can always feed this sign's wanderlust with a comprehensive atlas.

Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)
Career-oriented Capricorn always enjoys gifts that will boost their job status. A leather laptop carrier or monogrammed briefcase would be welcome. Contrary to popular belief, though, Goats aren't all work and no play. This sign is blessed with a wicked sense of humor, so try the BBC's "The Office" series on DVD. Capricorns also love luxurious presents they'd never buy for themselves, like a silk bathrobe.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)
You never know what this unpredictable sign will be doing from moment to moment – one week it's skydiving and the next it's yoga! Still, this quirky sign always appreciates technological gadgets, whether it's an all-region DVD player or an iPod Nano. If you'd like to choose something a little more personal, why not make a photo album detailing all of your exploits with the Water-Bearer? Aquarius may not show it, but they harbor a special fondness for their friends. Still stumped for ideas? A basket filled with brand new socks is both weird and practical enough for this sign, which rules the ankles.

Pisces (February 19 - March 20)
These mystics love gifts of all kinds, but especially ones that help them escape the harsh realities of life. A bottle of champagne, a kaleidoscope or a book of fairy tales will appeal to your Fishy friends. And because Pisces is a Water sign, it's a good bet they'll appreciate bath salts, foaming cleansers and shower gels. If you'd like to give something really special, a digital camera will make a bit hit with this natural-born photographer. Looking for a romantic gift? Choose a gilt-edged volume of love poetry.

Cheers!

How about a gift certificate for you to till his garden next spring, and if he doesn't own a tiller you pay the rent as well. At 51, I'm feeling the ravages of aging, and I would love it if my garden could get tilled.

Sharpen his shovels and hoes for him, since there is nothing like good sharp tools.

How about one of those headbands that you soak, with the substance inside that keeps you cool while working outside?

Not knowing your Dad, it's hard to say, but my Dad is no longer around, so make sure he knows how much he means to you. Best wishes on your search for the perfect gift for your Dad!

Do you know birthday gift ideas for a male friend?

He is 40 and I haven't seen him in a while. I want to spend approx. 50 bucks on that gift.

Answer
One of the most perfect gifts I've found for a guy lately, because most don't already have these, is a lap desk. They can use it for the lap top when their on the floor, bed or sofa, and they can use it to eat in front of the tv, or do whatever. Very handy and they come with handles for easy carrying too. I had one years ago that was a cheap quality one, but still worked good and now I want to get myself a newer one of these. Guys will think they're great.

my girlfriend is pregnant with my child. we want to keep it. but we want to know the financial part of it before we make our final decision. i am 14 she is 15. and we have no idea what to do

Answer
Child support is about 1/3 of your income until the child is 18. I'm not sure if you'll have to pay now but you will have to pay when you turn 18.

I hope your relationship goes well, but people do grow and change a lot between 14 and adulthood. You guys might have completely different lives and interests when you're 25 or 30. It can happen that you two stay together forever but most people do not end up with the person they went out with at age 14/15.

I would consider the following whenmaking your decision:

- Where will you two live with your child in a few years? I am assuming you will be living with your parents until you're 18 but after that you are an adult with a family, so you'll need your own place. I would search Craig's List in your town to see what the average rent for an apartment in your area goes for. Make up a pretend budget. Add car payments and gas expenses, auto insurance (ask your parents what they pay, then add a little more because younger drivers have to pay a higher insurance premium), groceries for three people, utilities, (utilities means your heat, electric bill, water, cable bill if you watch TV and use the internet), cell phone bill if you have one, now add baby food, diapers, clothing health care for the baby, and day care costs.

- Most full time jobs that a teenager can get without a college degree or a good vocational training program do not pay enough for a single person to live comfortably on their own, never mind supporting a family. You might be able to scrape by in a really cheap area where the cost of living is low but otherwise you may be caught in a welfare trap. What are you and your girlfriend's career plans? Ask yourself if you'll be realistically able to go to college or complete a training program in your field of choice while taking care of a baby full time. A minimum wage job is great for a teenager but you don't want to be still stuck working at one when you are grown up with bills to pay, those kinds of jobs just don't cut it.

- Child care - Do you have a plan for who is going to watch the child every day while you guys finish high school, and hopefully go on to college? Keep in mind that you will have to be working a lot in addition to your classes. Books, tuition, car expenses and auto insurance are major expenses for teenagers with part time jobs. Most jobs you can get at age 15 or 16 pay minimum wage (cashiering, salesperson at the mall, bus boy or waiter...all good jobs for teenagers but they don't pay a lot) Day care is very expensive, adult working households with two parents working pretty good middle class jobs often have trouble affording child care. Did one of your parents volunteer to stay home and provide child care for your baby, for free? Some teenage parents are lucky and have that option, but if your parents have their own jobs you'll be paying for full time day care. I would definitely call the local day cares and get pricing and see if that is something that is affordable to you.

- Keep in mind that this baby won't stay a baby...he or she will be about six years old when you are still barely 21. You will either be finishing up college or if you choose a trade you will probably still be an apprentice just starting out not making much money yet. Now the child will be in school and asking to join youth hockey, ballet, karate, piano lessons, etc. These things cost a lot of money. He will need nice clothes for school, a lot more expensive than little footie pajamas for infants. He will be invited to birthday parties for classmates and have to bring a gift. He'll want a bike and the video games and toys that all his friends have, lunch money, money for field trips, trips to the movies with friends, etc. Not saying you have to spoil him and buy him everything, but I am assuming you want to be able to provide some of these sorts of things for your child so he or she can have a comfortable childhood.

I would definitely work up a mock budget with the costs of all these basic expenses before you make your decision.

1st birthday party help! Where do i start? Ideas and advice please!?

Ashley

July 3rd is my sons birthday, but was planning to have the party on July 11th. Please help with ideas and planning advice. Thanks!

Answer
You have several options when it comes to whom you should invite to your toddler’s birthday party. If your child has friends from a playgroup, a daycare center, or the neighborhood, consider inviting a few of the children your toddler talks about most. The general rule is to invite one friend for every year of your child’s age, plus one. So, if your toddler is turning two, you would invite three friends. Keep in mind that at least one parent and, quite possibly, other siblings of each child will stay during the party. This can dramatically expand your guest list, so plan for it in advance by keeping the list of friends to invite short. If you would like any of the parents or older siblings to help out during the party, call them in addition to mailing them invitations. (Remember: More parents present means less kiddy chaos!)

As an alternative to inviting your toddler’s friends, you may choose to have a party with just family in attendance. At this age, your child will be just as excited to see his favorite aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents as he/she will be to see his/her friends, plus it may be less stressful for you. You can always invite one or two special friends to join the festivities with their parents, if desired.
For peace of mind, begin planning your toddler birthday bash six to eight weeks in advance. This will allow you time to gather all the supplies that you need, including toddler party decorations, gifts, and menu items. Planning ahead also gives your guests time to RSVP and make travel plans, if needed. Don't panic if you find yourself short on time; you can still plan a great party! Planning ahead simply reduces the risk of conflicts with guests' plans and may increase your party’s attendance.
When choosing your invitations you can either keep them simple with gender-specific colors and some balloon stickers or you can purchase pre-printed toddler birthday invitations that compliment your chosen party theme. i recommend mailing your invitations three to four weeks prior to the party—any sooner and your guests may forget, any later and your guests may already have plans.

To simplify the rest of the party planning process, check out our Party Planning Timeline, and read the paragraphs below for information on selecting decorations, supplies, activities, and more for your child's party. If you plan to use paper tableware and toddler party supplies, our Suggested Party Supply List may be quite helpful. Please note that you may not need everything on the list; it is intended only as a guide. For girls, you may use a combination of pink, purple, and white, or your daughter's favorite colors. For boys, red, yellow, and blue work well, or a combination of your son's favorite colors. If you’ve chosen a theme for your party, select colors that compliment the designs on your cups, plates, and other partyware.

For goodie bags, purchase stickers, costumes, stuffed animals, plastic toys, candies, and other toddler birthday favors that fit your theme. Place all of these items inside clear or printed cellophane bags, and tie the bags closed with colored ribbons.

Suggestions for birthday present for 17 year old male?

Hannah H

I would any suggestions for what to buy 17 year old for his birthday. He is in 2 bands so likes music - indie and nirvana type stuff.. Have budget of £40. what are teenagers into at the moment ?

Answer
It may sound impersonal, but at 17 they don't care...how about a gift certificate to a local music store, in the amount of $40? This way he can purchase what he wants. This is what I've done for my two nephews that are teenagers and they really like the idea.

When I first did it, I presented the gift certificate in a CD case and now they continue to fill the case with new CDs through the use of the additional gift certificates that I've given them over time.

I also focus on a certificate that's purchased from a store that carries not only CDs, but also DVDs and books...so that they have a choice, in case they don't wish to just purchase just a CD.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

It will show that you are a compassionate individual who is maturing.

Birthday gift ideas for a 14 year old girl?

My friend is having a birthday party today, and she just turned 14. I am the same age, but our personalities are much different. I'd say her style is between tomboy and girly, but more lean on the tomboy side. Every year I give her $20, but I don't feel there is a lot of thought put into that gift.

I need a last minute gift idea that's no more than $25 that she might be interested in.

Any ideas?
