I'm trying to "wow" my wife for her next birthday. What's the best gift you've ever recieved?

She's turning 33, doesn't like to read, likes movies, has some health problems so she can't really do anything to physical like hiking, skiing, etc. I'd appreciate any fun ideas. Thanks.

Answer
I had an ex boyfriend that did this for me and i'll never forget this. (It was the one sweet thing he did the whole time we were together)

Get some hershey kisses and when she's asleep, put a trail of them into the shower. Then put flowers and rose pettles in the shower. Put a note in it saying, "now that I've kissed the ground you walk on, and showered you with flowers, join me for dinner tonight at __:___. " You can also say breakfast, and make her a fantastic breakfast with all the works. If she works, I would suggest doing it before she comes home and hide when she gets home. Then come behind her when she finds your note and be dressed up and all ready for dinner. It would be even better if you made the dinner yourself and had a candlelight dinner for two set up where she can't see it when she gets inside.

What to get my boyfriend for Christmas?

Amber

I always get him clothes and shoes so I dont want to get that. He paints graffiti and he wants me to get him a gift card to home depot for paint. BUT I DONT WANT TO SUPPORT THAT! Any other ideas?

Answer
What you should do is ask him if he has any other hobbies, if he doesn't, do what you feel is right, if he does then get him something that has to do with that hobby. You could also give him what my ex-boyfriend gave me for my birthday, a kiss.

What are some volunteer ideas for someone under 18?

morganlove

I live in Vista California and I really want to get involved in volunteering and meeting new people.
I like things with animals, but the animal shelter here only takes volunteers over 18.
Does anybody have volunteer ideas, or ideas just to meet new people?

Answer
Morgan:
When you say that the animal shelter on takes volunteers over 18 are you talking about a private animal shelter or do you mean the Humane Society? there is a difference. Here in Colorado we have both and they usually accept teenage volunteers. They can clean out the cages, feed the animals, walk the dogs, if they have a gift shop they can stock the shelves, do inventory, or if they have a thrift shop they can help sort through the donated items that come in, price items, help w/customers and may even tend the cash register.

Have you thought about nursing homes? they always need volunteers to visit w/residents, help out w/birthday parties, game night, bingo , read to residents take them for outings, or just wheel them outside to get fresh air and talk. some nursing homes have a inter-generational program where they match up children with residents to talk, watch movies together, play games, do arts & crafts, just visit with them, help out during the holidays decorating the facility.

you could volunteer at your local HIV/AIDS organization they always need help with fund raising, putting together safe sex kits, food bank, cleaning the facility, visiting the clients (buddy system),speakers bureau speaking to teens about HIV, & staffing the front desk etc .

the Local Food Bank stocking the shelves, sorting the food that comes in, doing inventory.

Your local Hospital, they have a volunteer program.

your local library, they will have a volunteer program.

your local homeless shelter, they might have a soup kitchen.

If your area has a wildlife agency they will accept volunteers, man booths for fairs, do lectures about animals, care for animals they care for, work on trails etc.

Even your local school will have a volunteer program of some sort. just ask what they need help with.

Really almost any place you can think of will be willing to take on a volunteer. Even businesses,it is usually called an apprenticeship.

What can I get my long distance girlfriend for Valentines Day and her Birthday?

Austin

Hi. I am looking to see what I can get my long distance girlfriend for Valentines Day. Even though we are long distance, I spoil her a lot and get her a lot of nice things. I am always giving her gifts that's why I don't know what to get her. For Christmas I gave her a 6 different color nailpolish set, a necklace and earring set, perfume and lotion set and it always had a sleep mask. I have got her 2 necklaces before, and 2 different kinds of perfume before and I have also got her a lot of candy before. Whenever she wants something I try to give it to her that's why I don't know what to get her. I want to have flowers delivered to her house for Valentines Day so I went to 1-800flowers but they are so expensive and I don't have that kind of money... Im only 15. She wants a pillow pet really bad and I am going to try and get her one of those. I saw they had one for Valentines Day limited edition and I really want to get it for her but they aren't in stores and Im going to have to ship it to my house, and then have it shipped to her. Then her birthday is coming up 4 days after Valentines Day. So I also need a gift for that. Can someone please give me some ideas on what I could get her for Valentines Day and her Birthday other than perfume and necklaces since I have already gotten her multiples of those. Something that isn't that expensive and wouldn't cost that much to ship. Thanks for reading all this and thanks in advance. Please and Thank you!!

Answer
Well, first of all Happy B-day to your girlfriend and awww, you are so sweet for trying to give her the gift she wants. I'm not sure what pet pillows are, so I'm going to try and recommend you some cute gift ideas and maybe you'll find something you can use.

Really cute vintage cats: http://www.zazzle.com/myvintagecats

Maybe something Valentine related would be more suitable? http://www.zazzle.com/coolgeeks/gifts?cg=196090214032706577

Most of them can be personalized with your own text and you can ship the items directly to her place so you'd save some shipping fees. :)

Happy Valentines Day to you both!

What are some birthday gifts for a male teacher that can be bought in a store?

My teachers birthday is in February and i want to get him something nice, to show him my appreciation for all that he has done for me.

Answer
Something he uses; from now till January, notice his things or his hobbies. A wallet can always be appreciated, as men are prone to warp their wallets in their back pockets till they get ratty. If he uses a tie, you can also do that, or a belt, if you can estimate his waist size. Anything that has to do with his hobbies is also a good gift. A personalized mug is cute, can be meaningful, and cost is manageable.

You can also get picture frames. If your class will pitch in, a digital frame is a nice idea; if you have a compilation of pix of him with the class and other faculty, you can load it in; in fact if you can be in cahoots with his family, you can load those too. You still have time to take lots of pix. Other ideas, see site below.

Birthday gift ideas for my 15 year old girlfriend?

Chris

So it's almost her birthday and I wanna get her something shell really love. She's into colorful things, cupcakes, Disney, unicorns basically all little kid stuff. Haha she doesn't wear jewelry. So any ideas?

Answer
Make the gift yourself!

It's easy to make your own cupcake. Just find the recipe in the web. Or, I think journal is a great idea! Make your own. Use scrapbook paper for the cover and some paper, bind it with ribbon, fill it with stickers and pictures, oh and printout of the little kid stuff. Another good thing is bookmark. You can make your own by using card stock, ribbon, and pictures. It's all your own, but make sure it's handmade and of course, cute.

Make the gift yourself can get her more love the stuff. It works on me.
Good luck!

My neice turns 1 today, and her birthday gathering is later this week. What are good ideas for a birthday gift for her? Something that would actually be useful, not something her parents would just have to pile up with all the other presents. The more creative the better (:

Answer
First birthdays are so fun. My daughter just turned one a couple of months ago. Something really useful for a one year old is a 2-step step stool. If she isn't walking yet, she will be soon, and a step stool will help her claim her independence and start to do things for herself. Another unique first birthday gift is the Gymboree bubble wand called Bubble Oodles. This is the BEST bubble wand around and small children absolutely love bubbles!

So I need to get a birthday gift for my best friend who is turning 21 soon and I am completely lost on ideas. :( I want to get her something fun and memorable. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! (:

Answer
You should get friendship bracelets for both of you! I just got a pair of beautifully well made bracelets today from a leather bracelet shop. They have really cute couple bracelets and my friend loved hers. And it's significant because you can wear the bracelets day to day and the leather looks awesome on guys and girls.

Answer
The man in your life who's having a 50th birthday can be difficult to choose a good present for. Guys turning 50 years old are younger than Baby Boomers and older than Generation X--they're not young and they're not old. So what do you give them as a present for this special occasion marking a half century of living? While there's no one perfect gift for all 50-year-old men, here are some tips for how to brainstorm ideas for gifting guys approaching the big five-oh.

I am throwing a lowkey party tomarrow for my daughter's first birthday and I need some ideas for easy games or activities to keep my friends and family entertained. There will only be about 10 people there and only a couple kids 3 and under.

Answer
Go for it! We did the exact same thing 6 months ago for our daughter's one year old birthday, for a number of reasons. We had mostly adults and preferred to put the money we DID have into something that would mean more to her (her first bank account).

So, we had a backyard party, with balloons and streamers, plastic tablecloths, and pin the tail on the donkey! We also played musical chairs and karaoke. Instead of favor bags, I bought actual gifts for the few children that were there, and gave it to them as their game prize (we made sure each child won a game). The adults had fun helping the children "win", but they also joined in playing musical chairs, 3-legged relays, and playing cards. We had a potluck and individual cupcakes and ice cream cups to simplify things. We bought her a small, personal cake so that she could blow out the candle (which she was too irritated to do). She opened gifts then everyone left.

It came down to the family getting together and having a good time with each other.

Any ideas about what to do after food at a dinner party (games etc)/ general suggestions for during the party?

luckylady1

It is my birthday dinner and will be at my house, I'll be 17 and there are around 10-15 people coming.
It is my first time hosting a dinner so I'm new to this!
I'd just like any suggestions for any fun/different things that can be done during or after the food.
Any nice food/drink ideas are welcome too!
Thanks.

Answer
Happy birthday! Here are some ideas you might think about:

1. Since you are hosting a dinner, why not invite a local chef or culinary student to come and provide a "cooking lesson" and tasting for you and your guests? A "hands on" affair will allow all guests to help prepare the meal and can be fun.
2. Have your own "birthday card", giant poster that guests can sign when they come in. A nice momento!
3. Gift bags for guests are a must: for the ladies, nail polish, bath gel, fizzy bath balls, gift cards etc. are in order. For the guys, aftershave, lotions, gift cards etc.
4. Giving back: Have a theme of your party about also giving back to the community. Instead of gifts, have guests bring food items for your local food bank. Plan on bagging things up and delivering them either during the party (or maybe have them picked up?) or the next day.
5. You're never to old for a pinata. And, since you get to fill them yourselves, you can add what kind of candy and surprises you want to the insides.
6. Games: Pictionary, Clue, etc. are great. Or get a Wii and have a contest playing guitar!
7. Plan for an evening at a skating rink or the zoo! Or go to a play/musical or to a club for "under 21's" later in the evening.
8. Create your own "cakes" by making cupcakes and letting everyone decorate their own. Have a contest and winner gets a prize.

At any rate, have fun!

skip the legos for the 12 year old unless it's a special kit like star wars or something (kids these days are too into electonics these days though)

GIRL:

I have 3 daughters ages 9,7,and 6.

they ALL love to make crafts of any kind. you could put together a craft set by gathering various items at your local dollar store (dollar tree has awesome craft stuff), walmart, or michaels craft store (they have a dollar section too). find things like feathers, pom poms (colored cotton balls), glitter, sheets of foam, felt, ribbon, beads (and plastic string to make bracelets with),etc. I did this for a little girl for her birthday and it was her favorite gift!!

Answer
This is awesome. My mom and her husband (just got married last year) are 14 years apart. She just turned 45 this year! Anyway, he planned a pick nick at a park area near their home and then they walked around the lake for a while. Sounds cheesy, but he it too cute. A couple years ago he took her to see a play in Chicago that she had wanted to see. Maybe see if their are any concerts or plays she would like to go to and treat her for a night on the town.

As for actual presents, that's a hard question because I don't know what her likes are. But anything that she likes but feels guilty/bad about spending the money on it would be a good idea. My mom loves Lancome makeup but it's expensive...so he bought her a bunch for her b-day. He has even gotten her money for iTunes because they are on a budget. Also, if there are any plants she likes that she can keep all year round...perfume, etc.

Hope this helps and good luck!!

I want to get my mom a good birthday gift?

LOVEx :)

Hey everyone
I'm a teenager (female)--and my my mom became a widow when she was 45 years old. Her and my dad were HAPPILY married, and she misses him more than anything in the world. She has had her really hard times and sometimes she breaks down (understandable) but she has become such a STRONG person. She is the greatest person I have ever met, along with my daddy. She is ALWAYS there for me and my two sisters, she helps everyone, shes basically my hero after what shes been through

My question: she will be 50 years old very soon..(she looks very young for her age though haha)

I want to make this SOOO special. I know if my dad was here he would buy her fancy jewelry (she loves diamond rings) and take her out to dinner. She says she misses going out to dinner with him..my dad LOVED buying her gifts and doing special things for her because it showed her how much he loved her

SOOO...what are some great ideas I can do for my mom??? I am already going to buy her a gift card to get a professional massage, but I want to do something very very memorable and special. THANK YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!! :)

Answer
If you are on a tight budget, and you really want to get her a diamond ring, GO TO WALMART. They have some VERY nice jewelry!
And BTW, Before you mentioned you got her a massage gift card, I was going to suggest that. (that ALONE is a great gift! Every woman loves that kind of stuff, Its a time to relax and have YOU time! :)
I am sorry that you lost your dad also. He is in a better place now hun. @------^--------

My boyfriends birthday is in November, so I have time to get him something, but he really likes Van Goghs Starry Night.
So as much as I would love to make it for him, my artistic skills are that of a kindergartener on Crack. :)
So I am looking to find him one on canvas, that is similar. I dont want it too big or too small..not really sure what measurement it would be. And I dont have like 300 bucks to spend on it.
Does anyone have any ideas of where I could find one that is affordable and nice looking?

My son is gonna be starting kindergarten in a few months and he is a little scared so I wanted to go and get him a backpack and all the stuff with it for his b-day witch is in two he is motorcross so I am looking for a Kawaski backpack does anyone know any web-sites I can order this from. PLEASE HELP I really want to get him this for his b-day and get him excited to go to school

Answer
http://www.kawasaki.com/DefaultFrame.aspx?strContentURL=/Site/PCProductCatalog/PCCatalogTypes.asp?intCatalogId=1

This is the official kawasaki site with their gear. I think you are better off with a generic racing back pack you can find ones with the checkered flags or other racing type stuff at a more reasonable cost and size for a kindergartener .

Another idea is to get a plain backpack that fits him well (adult backpacks are unnecessary for a Kindergartener). Then find a patch or iron on that will make his special for him. If he is getting nervous about school this might better be an activity done together as a surprise birthday gift of this bag you take to school might only make him not want the bag or to go to school!

What are some gift ideas to buy a 10 year old female for her Birthday and Christmas?

millylouis

Ok, here's the scoop: My 9 year old neice will turn 10 next month, and subsequently enter the "tween" stage. She is extremely intelligent with a whole range of interest that a typical little girl partake in. Nevertheless, she is not athletic. She's popular and fashionable and have lots of friends at her elementary school. As her aunt, I want to buy her something very nice and if its a frugal gift (that's fine as well). I am 24 year old graduate student so you can imagine that I cannot "outdo" my siblings in buying my niece anything expensive for her birthday and christmas. Please keep in mind my budget is $150 and less on each occassion. Thank you in advance. :)

Answer
I had this same predictament not 4 months ago. I too have a 10 yr old niece (and many of her friends) around alot. Paying attention, I found a big interest for all of them is "THE CHEETAH GIRLS".
If you find this is one of your neice's interest; I found a mini karaoke machine at Walmart for $45 and then bought a few of the girl pop bop karaoke cds from one of the 2nd hand video games, cd's and more kinda places. Had her covered for less than $70.
Because of just paying attention specifically to her likes, herself and her friends, think I'm "cool" Haha!

I need some help..me nd my moms birthdays r ten days apart nd there is a 20 yr age difference..I'm turning 30 nd she is turning 50!! Both major milestones..I am having a big combined birthday for us but I need ideas..I need a theme nd a slogan nd party favor ideas!!?? I want it to be fabulous!!

Answer
Actually , I think you could have fun with the difference AND the similarities. What I mean is; you could have the gift table separated with one sign: FABULOUS AT FIFTY and another one, FLIRTY 30. So the presents are separated as well as the theme BUT the decorations could still easily go with princess pink items and decor. On the present table for mom: a poster in the background of like Starsky and Hutch or Meatloaf and for you- well whomever you loved in high school! I would have your background music playing both of your oldies and goodies random like.
Appetizers can be anything BUT i would go to one of those candy bulk stores that have the old fashioned candies and scatter them on the dessert table . They don't have to be separated- your guests get the idea. For a fun game- if you have time- your mom needs to write down the dances she remembers or that you find on the internet for the late 70's and early 80's and you write down the popular dances of your teen years. The 30 somethings have to guess how to dance to your mom's list( by only hearing the name) and her crowd will have to figure out how to dance to your list. It could be really fun. Have your generation music to dance by. If you don't like to dance try doing a trivia contest with each generation having to guess the others television shows. Oh and your overall slogan for the Invite? You are too young- but there used to be a commercial where the young guy grabs the woman and says; wow! Mrs. ..... I thought you were your daughter...... OR you could be the Trophy Wife Party if you are not married- then Milestones Madame's... have fun!!

She was an attractive young woman who sadly based her life around her looks and youth. I know it's hard for her getting older and 70 will be a big deal for her. Everyone seems too busy to of realised that.
She loves the finer things in life, 'beautiful' clothes, decorations, food and alcohol. She's very young for her age and not a typical older lady at all.

She asked her daughter if she could have a get together at her house, so that's what we'll be doing. She told me she wished her birthday would just go away, but she's planning this a month in advance so I'm sure she wants something nice.

I don't want her birthday to pass without someone making a real fuss - I want her to be happy rather than depressed about age. I want her to see how beautiful she still is inside and out, and what a gift life is. I'd love to make her so happy that for the rest of her years she can look back on how wonderful it was.

It can either be something special for her party at her daughter's house, or her and I spending a day/evening together.

Any ideas how to make it extra special?

Answer
Put together a slide show of her and her kids and show it at the party, that way she'll be the center of attention and everyone loves slide shows of the past- they make your heart melt :] haha
and maybe get an ice sculpture that says "70"
Or take her to get a make over, makeup, nails, hair, buy her a new outfit.
good luck!

How to throw a surprise 18th birthday party in college?

Any good ideas?? I go to USC in Los Angeles so any places around there, or we could do it in a dorm also. What can I do?

Answer
Email everyone an invitation to a toga party with a few pics on how to dress--or another theme. Depends on sex of birthday person and their interests and also quantity of guests. Ask a few people to help supply finger foods....chicken fingers, meat patties, mini quiche, wings, sausage puffs, crab or spinach dip or hummous & pita, cookies, cookies...birthday cake or cupcakes. A large peach punch...with or without alcohol, is more cost effective. You don't need a punch bowl...just juice pitchers from the dollar store and paper cups. Don't forget napkins and little plates and forks if there's cake. Everyone should take on a little responsibilty and chip in effort and you can coordinate the details and ask all communication to be through email/text, so that the birthday person is kept surprised. Have a couple of people on decoration detail. Even a couple of simple decorations can look festive. Buy a large birthday card which gets passed around in advance so that all well-wishers can sign it, plus some type of gag gift with an amusing, personalized story behind it to present in front of everyone. Have a person be in charge of music. Give a couple of pointers to each person in charge of their respective tasks, so they have some direction in what's expected. Have everyone send you a text/email, a day in advance assuring you that everything is fine and on schedule. Don't let anyone drive if they are tipsy. Check the party area and clear it of valuables, fragile items, loose rugs, and any other hazards. Warn students who could affected by the noise so they can opt to study elsewhere. Buy ice for the drinks and keep in a cooler.

What should I do for my friends 18th birthday?

Arielle

I'm 17 years old, and live in Los Angeles and my friends 18th birthday is coming up next week.
So far the best idea we've come up with was Disneyland, but we've been there SO many times before, and it's also not the most feasible idea. Plus, I want her 18th to be spectacular and out of the ordinary, not just the typical "amusement park" birthday. Any ideas?
*Keep in mind we have a relatively low budget.*

Answer
give her 18 wonderful gifts related to different things like friendship, love, romance, family, happy, sad, etc.........and don't forget to explain her how they mean.......or else 12 gifts indicating 12 months in a year........up to her next B'day.

Answer
You could get your mom a gift card for a book or puzzle store, or does she like magazines? You could get her a magazine subscription to an older women's magazine like More. Or a gift card to somewhere like Talbott's

Um, for your Dad, you could get him books about movies he likes or something. Or a year of netflix?

I don't want to go on living though I would never?

daisysurf

even think about committing suicide no way! I .believe the act would be selfish and I'd go to hell in a handbag. My life just sucks.. I'm 51 and have gone nowhere in life. I'v got nothing to look forward to. I know this is crazy and pls don't mock me, but I keep wishing I had cancer. I know this is bad and terrible 'cause if I ever found out I was dying from cancer I'd immediately think differently. It feels like an excape from reality to dream about me just going that way. I would have family members who would be worried, and maybe at least come to visit me or make me see how much they did love me. My life is hell right now. I cannot go into detail.... It is just really bad right now. But I do have two beautiful children whom I had late in life to live for. But I can do nothing for them monetarily and as a mother this kills you. I guess I feel like the worst loser on the face of this planet. I just wish I didn't have to live anymore that is all.

Answer
Katie - I read your statement and I understand the feelings you stated. I am 55, without going into great detail I also have gone through a life chance. I have one adult child that was to be a twin and one did not make it. I have relatives that could only be describe as characters from a Grimm's tale. My parents died on my fifth birthday and I have no recollection of them; I have a half sister and I am grateful that when I gave birth I had a full blood transfusion.

I lost my good paying job in '08 and my child and I have lived off my retirement and credit cards; I do have a p/t job that gives me a stipend, but last year I had very few assignments. I don't have to point out what you have already documented; so, I hope you do not mind if I give my opinion.

You are only 51, which statistical you are quite young in American life span and in Japanese tradition you are consider an infant until you are 60 years old! Of course this tradition is for men, but has been recognized for women.

You have judged yourself by the money you don't have to leave for your children and that is what I would like to address. My grandparent's left me a house when then pass; my mother's sister did not like this idea, because she felt she was entitle to their money; and did something unthinkable for a daughter to do her mother. My grandmother was raised during the depression and could stretch a penny and she taught me how. I learned from her that we all have natural talents; hers was sewing and drawing. Guess what so are mine. I am not a professional designer but I can so anything from a bib to couture. I started selling my wares on Ebay and now I have moved on to Etsy. I also sell vintage glass and various vintage pieces.

I am starting my financial life over again at minimum wage through a temp agency; total of all this income does not even come close to what I use to earn; but I also don't have the same needs I use to have. When my child was a child I would only get her ee savings bonds for gifts; they use to mature in seven years, but now the status has changed. "I" Bonds are sold at face value, but accrue interest up to 30 years. Ex: $25 face is $25 face; but after one year I Bond accrues interest at a fix rate or inflation rate.

You are their mother and beautiful children come from the heart of a loving mother. If you have taught them well, they will be able to earn their own living - Write a journal of all the worries and love you have for your children and they will be blessed with more than money.

I am sorry I wrote so much, but you touched me as a mother.
Shalom

I was thinking about making a photo and video collage for a lady friend I'm interested in taking to a another level with. The photo collage would have pictures of her and her with her lady friends through the years, as well pictures of me and her together. The video would have alot of her close friends wishing her a Happy Birthday or explaining how much she mean to them...Would that be a good Birthday gift? If not can you suggest some to me? Thank You!

Answer
If you had little time, you can try a cute card with sweet sayings by yourself...
With the card maker tool, you can quickly transform your digital photos into a stunning card that make heart happy! After you've designed the birthday card, print them free in full color at home.
Create the scrapbook card:

P.S. If you had much time, you can try a photobook that is made up of serials of cards. I think this is the present that is sure to be cherished for years to come.

Can a wireless adapter be built from scratch without software?

slayerquie

I'm running an experiment with a friend of mine involving long range communication, and I got the idea that perhaps as part of the process I should try to build my own wireless adapter. Mainly because I've been enjoying the hell out of scratch-making whizbangs and blinky things lately (thanks to Arduino of course, best-birthday-gift-EVER). Is there an easy way to just "brute force" it mechanically, as it were, or would it require a lot of custom programming as well? Normally I'd just buy a cheap adapter and take it apart to see how it works, but most of the project is running on junk, and I'm barely going to have enough for the remaining tools and supplies our junk pile doesn't cover, so that's not really in the cards. I'm certainly not a tech genius, but I know enough to make use of most schematics fairly easily. If any simple schematics exist, or anyone can give me even a "verbal" rundown of what would be necessary to hand make a wireless radio, I'd be most appreciative of the help. By the way, it doesn't have to be optimized by any means. At the moment, I've got a small bit of leeway with resistors, wire, and whatnot, so it's really just to get hands-on experience with the fundamental working order of the device on the construction level, as that particular field is sorely lacking in information compared to how much is posted online about signal propagation, etc. I just need a basic, garage-project rundown of what bone's connected to the wireless bone as it were to get me started. If it would end up costing more to build and program one than just to buy one, just say so, but if anyone can get me started, I really enjoy hands-on projects, and I've been learning quite a bit recently. I'd like to keep the roll going if there are any hidden geniuses among you. Schematics are preferred, if possible. Patented products will NOT be duplicated, only studied if that's what it takes. I'll accept ANY help.

P.S. Proof-reading this, I suddenly realize how the post sounds, so let me say it up front - no, I'm not planning on using it to steal wifi XD

I've got high-speed of my own. I just like playing with power tools and building stuff, even if it breaks on me later. No feeling quite like looking at a functioning, engineered object of one sort or another, and being able to say YOU made it. Some of you will understand that better than others.

Answer
No. There has to be a software user interface and firmware to tell the hardware what to do and when to do it.

There's nothing to prevent you from designing and assembling your own hardware but at some point you'll have to import existing software or design it yourself, and as firmware is far more fundamental to the hardware profile you'll have to design that from scratch. Not at all easy even for the companies which do it all the time, as evidenced by the regular software & firmware patches they have to release even on completed consumer-release versions of the hardware.

Nice gift is an object associated with what YOU LIKE (rather than he likes) because when using it heâll associate it w you. For example, cute throw pillow (benefit in that his parents may appreciate it) , for example cute owl throw pillow http://www.cafepress.com/GeoChemBio.525022325
Matching T-shirts are also fun, for example, for you:

this way youâll get present not only for him but also for you, which is great

What is a good birthday gift for a mentally challenged 12 year old boy?

anon

I'm looking for birthday gift ideas for a very special 12 year old boy. He is mentally challenged, but is very bright. I know that he understands and can do plenty of things, but he just has a hard time with communication. He can play computer games and understands everything you're asking him to do.

Any ideas?

Answer
If you want to go with a toy, just cruise the toy isle at any store and pick out what's cool. Kids are kids when it comes to toys, learning disabilities or not :-)

If you are wanting to build on his computer gaming, you could go with Roller Coaster Tycoon. You have to build your own amusement park and roller coasters. Way cool and it exercises learning and critical thinking. Do not fret, it is not too difficult.

If you are looking to facilitate communication, then get a board game. This will require some interaction and speaking on his part but in a group setting with limited stress. The improved Battleship is all computer like with sounds. Cool.

If you are looking to introduce a potential hobby, pick up a model train set. All boys love model trains and the sets are relatively priced at a hobby shop. This could be something that grows with him as new gifts can incorporate more track, figures and buildings, etc.

Remember that Christmas is around the corner so pick up something for that while you are shopping for the birthday so you will not be left in a lurch with bare toy shelves. Good luck and enjoy.

How do I throw a 30th Birthday Party for my single friend?

Help me ou

My single girlfriend is turn 30 this year. Does anyone have an clever ideas for decorations or a theme?

Answer
I'm single and also turning 30 this year. Hey, maybe you're my friend and this party is for me! ha! just kidding... ;)

If she's anything like me, and dreads turning 30, the last thing I want is to have people rubbing my new age-bracket in my face. Who wants to be reminded of how old they are getting when they're still single? So forego any "Over-the-Hill" type of decorations, or anything referring to "Old Maid" (I absolutely HATE that term!!!) Here are some parties that she may like:

-Honestly, I think a dinner party with her closest friends would be the best. Make reservations at her favorite restaurant and make a fun night of it. Take pictures!
-If she hates the thought of turning 30, do a "Happy 1st Anniversary of turning 29" party. Have 29 pink candles and 1 white candle decorating a white-frosted cake.
-Decorate the party like the 70's since that was the year she was born and have everyone wear 70's attire and play 70's music. Have 70's style posters decorating the room and maybe a history board of pictures of her growing through the years.
-Or if she's a fan of the 80's, throw an 80's style party, same idea as the 70's version...
-Or perhaps if she's a movie buff, have a party of "Big Movie Hits of the Last Three Decades". Have everyone dress up as their favorite movie character over the last 30 years.
-Maybe have people bring inexpensive gifts in thirty's. Thirty candy bars, thirty birthday cards about turning 30, a mixed CD with 30 songs on it, etc. Let your guests be the creative ones too.
-Murder mystery parties are awesome.
-Perhaps if you and her close friends can afford it, go on a road trip somewhere and celebrate. Vegas, Atlantic City, etc.

I don't suggest strippers or strip clubs. To me, that's fun in your early 20's. Turning 30 is a big step and the party shouldn't be reduced to something silly, unless she would like that...? *shrug*

***The most important part: Whatever you decide to do, invite men and women. If any of your guests have any potentional, great single men, bring them along! The more the single men, the merrier, right? ;)

Good luck! I'm sure she (and everyone else) will have a blast! And how thoughtful of you to do this for her! :)
