Secret Santa gift ideas for my best friend?

Q. Okay so my friends and I are doing a Secret Santa between the 7 of us and I got my best friend, Cally. Cally is a huge piano player and not really sporty. She wants to travel more. She's pretty girly but doesn't really wear a ton of make-up or like body shop stuff. She likes shopping and our budget is $30.00. She does wear jewellery but a few of my friends and I pitched in to get her a Tiffany's necklace for her birthday a few months ago. Also I don't really wear jewellery which takes friendship bracelets out. I have a few ideas but because we are really close and I've trusted her with things I haven't told anyone else I want to make it super special and show her how much she means to me. Thanks for your help!

A. You can get a christmas ornament or keychain with a picture of you two engraved in it they look great compared to ones with a real pic put in it. I know walmart and snapfish do them online.

What equivalent gift should I get my girlfriend for her birthday?
Q. Well, for my birthday, my girlfriend bought me a nice shirt from H&M ($20-$30 probably- she cut out the price). Next Monday is her birthday and coincidentally our three month anniversary.

She told me all she wants is a burned CD with some songs she's never heard. I plan on making her this, of course, but I figure I'm a schlub if I don't spend a few bucks on her as well.

Any ideas?

A. Not quite sure what stores are near you, but if you pay attention to the stuff she wears, particularly jewellery, you should buy her something similar. It doesn't even have to be real jewellery (although silver and cz are pretty cheap at certain places), it could be dress jewellery from nice clothing stores.

What's a good birthday present for my friend?
Q. I have a friend who's turning 14 and I have no idea what to get her. No gift cards, makeup, jewelry, or personalized things please. She already has plenty of music, books, and movies. I have a budget of $30. She likes swimming, outdoors, and animals. She is a huge Harry Potter fan.

A. Animal swimsuit, sporty swimsuit, Harry Potter poster/book/movie, wristband or maybe a Harry Potter Volleyball? You decide. ;)

Does anybody know what the birthday gift from Sephora is?
Q. I'm thinking of going shopping today, mainly at Sephora. My birthday is coming up and I'm planning on receiving my birthday gift...Does anybody happen to know what it is?
Also, if you had $25-$50 dollars to spend there, what would you buy?

When asking what you'd buy, I'm asking for suggestions. (: So if anyone has suggestions of what to buy at Sephora, that'd be amazing. I'm looking for some more, um, unique products. Thanks so much!

A. well i have no idea what your birthday gift is but i do know what i would buy! first i would buy tarte cheek stain i already have it but i want all the colors! haha i love it because its super fast and easy to apply also the color is so pretty and looks really natural.i have the color tipsy which looks very pretty on my beige skin.it costs around 30 dollars its kind of pricey but SO worth it! it last forever and is the best blush iv ever used.next i would buy too faced naked eye shadow pallet the colors are gorgeous and that costs about 35 dollars next i would buy urban decay primer potion.i really like it because it makes my eyeshadows stay on forever and makes the colors look really vibrant and that costs about 18 dollars. well i hope this helps! have fun! :)

What is a good gift to Give a baby/parents for baby's 1st birthday?
Q. I need some good gift ideas to give for a baby boy's first birthday. I do not want to just give some silly toy from target, but I also do not want to spend more then like 30 dollars. It is for coworker's son. I would really like it to be something for them both to enjoy. Ideas please!

A. You could get something engraved from things remembered with his name on it. Maybe a piggy bank? I liked little ride on toys for my kids. You could also get a nice picture frame for the first year or a savings bond. Also, a cute outfit is nice, but doesn't have much meaning. If you aren't close to the coworker or the child, then I wouldn't worry about it being too personal.

What do I get my nephew for his 12th birthday?

Q. My nephew's 12th birthday is in a few weeks and i'm clueless as to what to get him this year. He's not a normal 12 year old. He has mild cerebral palsy, and because of his mother, hardly ever stays home anymore because she's always dragging him all over the place. A video game is the obvious answer but I don't want to get him anymore mind numbing gifts. He loves to play outside and has the mindset of an 8 year old or so. Any ideas?

A. Some sporty stuff like soccer balls, baseball bats, roller skates. Or paints, model rocket, quiz books. For the long car rides with his mom

Any ideas for a sweets (ice cream, candy, desserts etc.) inspired birthday party?
Q. I'm having a birthday party for My 7 and 8 year old nieces. They want a sweets inspired party. Does anybody have any ideas, or know anywhere that I can buy sweets inspired decorations etc.?

A. Oriental Traders sells loads of the sweet decorations.

You might want to have a "Make your own sundae" party. Have several flavors of Ice Cream and all sorts of toppings for the girls/boys to put on. Have whipped cream available and most definitely large bowls.

You can used crushed oreos, sprinkles, nuts, cherries, M&M (minis) and anything else you can think of for the toppings.

Make up treat bags, but I would limit the amount of sweets. Some parents may object. You could put in gift certificates to McDonalds, Burger King. I know that they use to have booklets you could purchase.

If you know of someone that would like to come in and give the girls a manicure/pedicure, that would be fun. Or have someone paint faces. Girls love that! Or how about playing dress up. Go to a second hand shop and buy some inexpensive clothing and hats and have them dress up.

Hope this helps.

How soon did you create your baby registry?

Q. I am only 7 weeks pregnant and can't stop thinking about the baby shower! I know it is obviously too soon to create one - I want to at least know the sex of the baby.

So I'm just wondering, at around which week did you create your baby registry?

A. At the risk of ofending everyone here, I didn't and have no intention of doing it - I think it is a horrible gift grab. In fact, I had to finally snap on the obnoxious Sears registry lady who seemed totally offended I was not going to register, especially there! I told her my husband and I can afford everything we need and would prefer if people would just buy some diapers and formula and take that to the food bank - that shut her up! My husband and I are older and financially stable and I hate the idea of registering, giving people the impression they need to buy us something. I have purposely bought everything we need in an attempt to avoid the whole shower thing - so far it's worked! Obviously that is not the case for everyone, especially young couples just starting out. I have always bought baby gifts for friends and coworkers because I wanted to, not becuase of what was dictated to me by a registry. The registry thing is totally getting out of hand - birthdays, christenings, having their first poop, it's ridiculous. That's is just my opinion though. Congrats on your pregnancy!

Is it okay to put a gift idea on an invitation?
Q. It's my son's 8th birthday. He already have a lot of toys. We put his gift idea on his invitation." I am saving for my college, which means cash as gift. We're thinking it's better that way for them to save time and effort to find what gifts to buy. If I were the guest I prepare to give cash so they could buy what he or she realy wanted.

A. I think it's okay, so people won't have a hard time to find a gift. And it is just like a bridal, baby shower registry, no difference. I don't think it's tacky or rude just being frank and for me it is practical.

what is a good way to decorate for a bridal shower?
Q. i have been chosen to decorate for my sisters bridal shower and im not 100% sure how to decorate. Do i have to do like a center piece for the tables and what not this is my first time and i have no idea what to do.

A. First...consider her colors. And decorate in the colors that she is using for the wedding. Yes, you should have a centerpiece on each table, one which one person can win (Closest Birthday to the Bride's Wedding..) etc. will win the centerpiece.
You can also decorate the chair that she will be sitting in to open her gifts.
If you are having a wishing well, or even a pretty decorated whicker basket with a big bow...for those who prefer monetary gifts to gifts on her registry.
Try banners that say: "Congratulations.."Name".
Here's a google search on bridal shower decorations to help you out...

Q. A few weeks ago i was in a really bad accident and i wasn't able to get my best friend a birthday present right away. I'm better now and she is on vacation in NC so I wanted to get her something big while she's gone. I don't have much money to spend so it has to be under $100. She is kind of girly but she is really into gymnastics so she can be sporty when she wants to. Please give me some good ideas, I'm really stuck on this! Thanks:)

A. You could always go with home made items. Another option caould be getting her something from Bath and Body Works or something like that. A little set of a really good fraguence is what every girl wants and needs. i LOVE getting those for my birthday. Giftcards are another good idea too( : You dont to over do it with the cash on the carrd but any little bit counts. If she is in to gymnastics, you can make her a gift set that is gymnastic themed. I hope this helps! ( :

What's a good present for my mother's 60th Birthday?
Q. My mom is a really fun person with an expensive taste in almost everything. What are some great present ideas for a mom's birthday? Shes turning 60 so id like to give her something cool, memorable, or meaningful that wont completely break the bank. Under $100 please! Thanks.

A. Try a massage coupon, or a spa treatment!

Gift-cards for online shopping places like amazon.com are cool and appreciated too.

Ask your mom what she needs and wants- I always find that to be effective.

Good luck!

What are some awesome 13 year old girl presents?
Q. She isn't that into make-up or clothes.
She is sporty, but not super, and loves super creative gifts.
June 11th is the big day!
Must be under $100

Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS... She doesnt like gift cards, she likes creative gifts.

A. Well there are some super cool stores wehre you can get really unique gifts that aren't really girly just well... unique!

Like:
Ten Thousand Villages= LOVE!
http://www.etsy.com/ >> pre handmade gifts
http://www.dannabananas.com/

Umm, there are some cool things from Adidas. Adidas also sells like body sprays and stuff. http://www.shopadidas.ca/product/QA731/V42684/Sports/Womens-Beach-Carry-All/detail.jsf
That's just one cute bag from adidas. It's sporty but not totally girly.

Make a handmade picture frame and put pictures of you two in the frame, or just pictures of her and her life.

You can make a collage or a little scrapbook. Those are always super fun!

Even though you say she's not into makeup and clothes and stuff, band tshirts are always great if she's into music. There is some really unique jewellery from Forever21 too.

Try getting her a CD or two from HMV or Zellers. Or you could step it up by mixing one CD of all her fav songs or artists. HMV also sells really cool earbuds like M'n'M earbuds and stuff. (There's also Skullcandy stuff if she's into that brand- they're really good quality).

Get a gift certificate for two to a class of some sort. So random ideas: an art class, yoga sessions, gym memberships, dance sessions, writing workshop, etc. You can pretty much get it to whatever she's into at the same get closer to her!

I'm also 13, so i'm just brainstorming some ideas here!

Hope I helped! Have fun and wish her a happy birthday! (=

(If all else fails, things like cool Bernard Callibo chocolates always work!!)

What is an example of a company, or wealthy person spending so much money they went broke?
Q. I know it's an odd question, but I'm supposed to have examples for an English essay discussing Benjamin Franklin's aphorism, "Beware of little expenses, a small leak will sink a great ship". Only issue....I can't think of a single example when this occurred.

A. Born in New York City, Barbara Hutton was the only child of Edna Woolworth (1883-1918) who was the daughter of Frank W. Woolworth, the founder of the successful Woolworth department store chain. Barbara's father was Franklyn Laws Hutton (1877-1940), a wealthy co-founder of the respected E. F. Hutton & Company, a New York Investment banking and stock brokerage conglomerate. She was a niece by marriage of cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post who was for a time (1920-1935) married to E.F. Hutton; thus their daughter, actress-heiress Dina Merrill (born Nedenia Hutton), was a first cousin to Barbara Hutton. Dina Merrill related on A&E's Biography of the Woolworths, that for a time Barbara lived with them following the death of her mother and abandonment by her father.

Her mother committed suicide when Barbara was six years old. After her mother's death, she lived with various relatives, and was raised by a governess. She became an introverted child who had limited interaction with other children her own age. Her closest friend and only confidante was her cousin Jimmy Donahue, the son of her mother's sister.

In accordance with New York's high society traditions, Barbara Hutton was given a lavish débutante ball on her 18th birthday, where guests from the Astor and Rockefeller families, amongst other elites, were entertained by stars such as Rudy Vallee and Maurice Chevalier. Three years later, on her 21st birthday, Barbara Hutton inherited close to $50 million from her mother's estate. Her inheritance made her one of the wealthiest women in the world.

[edit] Marriages
Portrayed in the press as the "lucky" young woman who had it all, the public had no idea of the psychological problems she lived with that led to a life of victimization and abuse. Barbara Hutton married seven times:

1933 - Alexis Mdivani, a soi-disant Georgian prince, divorced 1935
1935 - Count Curt Heinrich Eberhard Erdmann Georg von Haugwitz-Hardenberg-Reventlow, divorced 1938
1942 - Cary Grant, divorced 1945
1947 - Igor Troubetzkoy, divorced 1951
1953 - Porfirio Rubirosa, divorced 1954
1955 - Baron Gottfried Alexander Maximilian Walter Kurt von Cramm, divorced 1959
1964 - Prince Pierre Raymond Doan, divorced 1966 (she bought him the title Vinh na Champassak of Laos)

[edit] Mdivani and Reventlow
Her first two husbands used her great wealth to their advantage, especially the extremely abusive Curt Haugwitz-Reventlow with whom she had her only child, a son named Lance.

Reventlow dominated her through verbal and physical abuse which escalated to a savage beating that left her hospitalized and him in jail. He also persuaded her to give up her American citizenship, and to take his native Danish citizenship for tax purposes, which she did in December 1937 in a New York federal court. At this point she lapsed into drug abuse. Hutton then developed anorexia, which would plague her for the rest of her life.

Hutton's divorce from Reventlow gave her custody of their son, and like her father had done to her, she left the raising of Lance to a governess and private boarding schools.

[edit] Cary Grant
With World War II raging in Europe, Hutton gifted her London mansion Winfield House to the United States government and moved to California. Back home, Hutton became active during the war, giving money to assist the Free French Forces and donating her yacht to the U.S. government. Using her high profile image to sell War bonds, she received positive publicity after being derided by the press as a result of her marriage scandals. In Hollywood, she met and married Cary Grant, one of the biggest movie stars of the day. Grant did not need her money nor to benefit from her name, and appeared to genuinely care for her. Nevertheless, this marriage failed as well.

[edit] Igor Troubetzkoy
Hutton left California and moved to Paris, France before acquiring a mansion in Tangier. Hutton then began dating Igor Troubetzkoy, another expatriate Russian prince of very limited means but world renown. In the spring of 1948 in Zurich, Switzerland, she married him. That year, he was the driver of the first Ferrari to ever compete in Grand Prix motor racing when he raced in the Monaco Grand Prix and later won the Targa Florio. He ultimately filed for divorce. Hutton's attempted suicide made headlines around the world. Labeled by the press as the "Poor Little Rich Girl," her life nevertheless made great copy and the media exploited her for consumption by a fascinated public.

[edit] Porfirio Rubirosa
Her next marriage lasted only 53 days. Porfirio Rubirosa, one of the most notorious of international playboys, married the vulnerable woman while continuing his affair with the actress Zsa Zsa Gabor [citation needed].

Hutton then spent time with Americans, James Douglas and Philip Van Rensselaer. However, her lavish spending continued, and although she was already the owner of several mansions around the world, in 1959 she built a luxurious Japanese-style palace on a 30 acre (120,000 m²) estate in Cuernavaca, Mexico.

[edit] Gottfried von Cramm
Her next husband was an old friend, German tennis star Baron Gottfried von Cramm. This marriage also ended in divorce. He died in an automobile crash near Cairo, Egypt in 1976.

[edit] Raymond Doan
In Tangier, she met her seventh husband, Raymond Doan. This marriage, too, was short-lived.

Hutton frequently appeared drunk in public and her spending continued unabated. Over the years, she had acquired a large collection of valuable jewelry, including elaborate historical pieces that had once belonged to Marie Antoinette and Empress Eugénie of France. She began spending time with numerous younger men, total strangers to whom she gave money, diamond bracelets, and other pieces of expensive jewelry.

[edit] Final years
The 1972 death of her son in an aircraft crash sent Hutton into a state of despair. Her fortune had diminished to the point where she began liquidating assets in order to raise funds to live on. Nonetheless, she continued to spend money on strangers willing to pay a little attention to her. She spent her final years living at the Beverly Hills Hotel, where she died from a heart attack in May of 1979. At her death, it is said that $3,000 was all that remained of her fortune. She was interred in the Woolworth family mausoleum at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, New York.

[edit] Biographical information
Over the years, numerous books have been written about Barbara Hutton, the best known of which are:

Poor Little Rich Girl: The Life and Legend of Barbara Hutton by C. David Heymann
Million Dollar Baby: An Intimate Portrait of Barbara Hutton by Philip Van Rensselaer
In 1987, a television motion picture titled Poor Little Rich Girl: The Barbara Hutton Story starred Farrah Fawcett in the role of Barbara Hutton.

Where did the annual celebration of the Birthday come from?
Q.

A. A birthday, as the term implies, is the anniversary of the particular day on which a person was born. Though by no means universal, such occasions are celebrated in numerous cultures, often with a party or, in some instances, a rite of passage.
Though major religious traditions such as the Buddhist or the Christian celebrate the birth of their founders, the most obvious example of which is Christmas, principled opposition to the very idea of celebrating birthdays is to be found among certain religious groups.
Cultural and legal conventions
In most legal systems, one becomes a legal adult on a particular birthday (often 18th or 21st), and at different ages gains different rights and responsibilities — voting, certain drug use (for example, alcohol, purchasing tobacco), eligibility for military conscription or voluntary enlistment, purchasing lottery tickets, vehicle driving licenses, etc.[citation needed]

Many cultures have one or more coming of age birthdays:

Jewish boys have a bar mitzvah on or around their 13th birthday. Jewish girls have a bat mitzvah on or around their 12th birthday, or sometimes on or around their 13th birthday in Reform and Conservative Judaism.
In some Christian traditions, generally Catholic and Anglican, Confirmation is the ritual by which a young person receives a Sacrament thought to bestow certain gifts of the Holy Spirit. The timing of the reception of this Sacrament serves, on a sociological level, as a sort of "rite of passage" into adulthood.
In Hispanic countries the quinceañera celebration traditionally marks a girl's 15th birthday.
Some girls and a few boys in the United States have "sweet sixteen" birthday parties.
In the United Kingdom 18th and 21st are traditional coming of age birthdays.[citation needed]
In some Asian countries, the 14th birthday is celebrated as the day one becomes a man, or a woman, in society.[citation needed]
Many Filipino girls celebrate their 18th birthdays with a cotillion and debutante ball, commonly known as a debut.[citation needed]
In India, the 12th or 13th birthday is replaced with a grand "thread ceremony." The child takes a blessed thread and wears it, symbolizing his coming of age. This ceremony is more common amongst boys in the Hindu culture.
The birthdays of historically significant people, like national heroes or founders, are often commemorated by an official holiday. Some saints are remembered by a liturgical feast (sometimes on a presumed birthday). By analogy, the Latin term Dies natalis is applied to the anniversary of an institution (such as a university).

A person's Golden or Grand Birthday, more commonly referred to as their "Lucky Birthday", "Champagne Birthday" or "Star Birthday", occurs when they turn the age of their birth day (e.g., when someone born on the 25th of the month turns 25).

[edit] Name days
In some Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox countries such as France, Russia, Bulgaria, Hungary, or Greece, it is common to have a 'name day'/'Saint's day'. This is celebrated in much the same way as a birthday, but is held on the official day of a saint with the same Christian name as the birthday person; the difference being that one may look up a person's name day in a calendar, or easily remember common name days (for example, John or Mary); however in pious traditions, the two were often made to concur by giving a newborn the name of a saint celebrated on its birthday, or even the name of a feast, for example, Noel or Pascal (French for Christmas and "of Easter").

[edit] Alternative birthdays
People born on February 29, which occurs only during leap years, often celebrate their birthday in other years on February 28, or March 1 (the first day they have, measured in whole years, a new age). .

In school, a half-birthday or other unbirthday is sometimes celebrated for those whose birthdays do not fall on a school day (especially for birthdays falling during holiday and vacation periods).

[edit] Official birthdays

Colored lanterns at the Lotus Lantern Festival in Seoul, South Korea, celebrating the Buddha's birthdaySome notables, particularly monarchs, have an official birthday on a fixed day of the year, which may not necessarily match their actual birthday, but on which celebrations are held. Examples are:

Jesus of Nazareth's traditional birthday is celebrated as Christmas Day around the world: 25 December. As some Eastern churches use the Julian calendar, 25 December falls on 7 January in the Gregorian calendar every year until 2100.
The King's or Queen's Official Birthday in Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom; in Canada this day is known as Victoria Day.
The Grand Duke's Official Birthday in Luxembourg: 23 June.
The King's official birthday in Belgium: November 15 (on saint Leopold, liturgical feast of the dynasty's founder's patron saint).[citation needed]
Koningsdag or Koninginnedag in the Kingdom of the Netherlands is fixed on 30 April (Queen's Day; celebration of the reigning Queen's accession). Queen Beatrix fixed it at the birthday of her mother, the previous Queen, to avoid the winter weather associated with her own birthday in January.
The 21st of August is the date on which the Irish celebrate the birthday of Aoife Cooper, the Druid Queen who was driven mad by secret love (Paramour).
While it is uncommon to have an official holiday for a republican head of state's birthday, this can become a permanent posthumous honour, for example George Washington's and Abraham Lincoln's birthdays are celebrated together as Presidents' Day.

[edit] Frequency
According to public record births database Anybirthday.com, birthdays are evenly distributed throughout the year, except for the months of October and September, which follow the holiday season by nine months. The most frequent birthday is cited as October 5, with an average of 12,576 people born each year, while the least frequent birthday is cited as May 22nd with an average of 10,259 persons born annually.[1]

Apparently it depends on where you live and what religion and culture you believe.

Any ideas for an 80th birthday party celebration?

Q. I need help on gift ideas, and unique decorating, etc. It's my mom's birthday and we have rented a room at a resturant. What do you thonk of pictures of my mom during different satges - little girl, teen, wedding, etc? Thanks for all answers.

A. a picture board is a great idea- I did one for my moms 60th party and she had a great time showing off her pics to everyone! Go get one of those tri-fold display boards and put tons of pics of her throughout the years on it- or you can make a slide show and play it on someones laptop computer- whichever works better for you. For decorating I just used my moms favorite colors- pink, purple, and silver accents- we had fake flower petals scattered down the center of the tables and a set of pretty candles next to a vase of lillies. I also found small travel candles for 50 cents and had one of those at each table setting as a party favor for the guests. We had balloon arrangements all over the room and hung streamers and some birthday banners too. I had also found on Ebay a book all about the year she was born and we had that on the picture table so people could look through that also and I found a Life magazine from th week she was born on there too (I gave that as a gift to her and she loved it).
so as far as decorations- go with something that you think she would like, maybe vases of her favorite flowers all over, or make it a theme relating to her favorite hobby and decorate along those lines (gardening, bingo, quilting- whatever!) This is a good time also to get some family pictures taken so make sure to gather up the whole group before people start to leave to get some good family shots.

What are some good gift ideas for a grandmother's birthday?
Q. My grandmother is in her 80's and recently went through some major surgery. She loves pictures but she has a ton of them along with random knickknacks. She lives in an apartment now so she has limited space. Any ideas for a birthday gift are appreciated.
My father actually got her a digital picture frame for Christmas... Thanks though! I think it might actually be one of her favorite gifts.

A. Make her a really nice photobook using Smile Books software. The software is free but you have to pay for the book.

What is the best gift for a boyfriend?
Q. ok so i need to get my boyfriend a birthday gift, and he has way more than enough clothing, sneakers, and jewelry. He's really not into the
iPod and those other music players, so i'm really out of ideas... I'm already taking him out to eat, and surprising him with a birthday cake and card. But i also want to give him a gift...so let me know any ideas!

Oh by the way we've known each other for almost 4yrs, but have been dating for about 2yr now. just in case you needed to know.

A. Overstock.com sells brand-name stuff at seriously discounted prices like ~80% off and they everything for only $2.95. I have been using it to buy gifts or just get ideas for many years now.

Some of the stuff I grabbed from their site that they have includes:
bed-and-bath, home decor, furniture, handmade goods, kitchenware, watches, jewelry, computers and electronics, sporting goods, apparel and designer accessories, books, magazines, CD's, DVD's, videocassettes and video games

The deal below gets you some $$$ off if you spend more than $100 bucks.

Hope this is helpful.

What Should I Give My Daughter For Her 9th Birthday?

Q. My Daughter, Selena is turning 9 years old very soon. What should I give her for her Birthday. She is a glam, sporty, and artistic girl. She loves drawing clothes, dancing, and using the computer. She has 2 older brothers, but would not like the item to break if her brothers mess with it. Any Solutions or Ideas?

A. Webkinz are always a great gift for that age group. Check them out webkinz.com. I created a gift basket for my daughter's b-day. I filled it with Webkinz lipgloss, body spritz, charms and a charm necklace, and a few webkinz animals. It was a huge hit! My daughter also loves her Nintendo DS light. Her favorite games are Animal Crossing & My Sims.

What do you buy a 9 year old for her birthday?
Q. I'm going a 9 yr old little girls birthday party. Any ideas what to get her? Also I'm on a budget, so nothing too expensive :)
thanks!

A. My 9 year old daughter loves makeup, nail polish, jewelry, hair stuff, music (like an i-tunes card if she has an ipod), and clothes. She loves all the tween movies, some of her favorites are the new Hannah Montana Movie, Another Cinderella Story, and Princess Protection Program. Otherwise gift cards are always good- she loves to be able to go shopping.

What are some gift ideas to buy a 10 year old female for her Birthday and Christmas?
Q. Ok, here's the scoop: My 9 year old neice will turn 10 next month, and subsequently enter the "tween" stage. She is extremely intelligent with a whole range of interest that a typical little girl partake in. Nevertheless, she is not athletic. She's popular and fashionable and have lots of friends at her elementary school. As her aunt, I want to buy her something very nice and if its a frugal gift (that's fine as well). I am 24 year old graduate student so you can imagine that I cannot "outdo" my siblings in buying my niece anything expensive for her birthday and christmas. Please keep in mind my budget is $150 and less on each occassion. Thank you in advance. :)

A. I had this same predictament not 4 months ago. I too have a 10 yr old niece (and many of her friends) around alot. Paying attention, I found a big interest for all of them is "THE CHEETAH GIRLS".
If you find this is one of your neice's interest; I found a mini karaoke machine at Walmart for $45 and then bought a few of the girl pop bop karaoke cds from one of the 2nd hand video games, cd's and more kinda places. Had her covered for less than $70.
Because of just paying attention specifically to her likes, herself and her friends, think I'm "cool" Haha!

What is a good birthday gift for an eleven year old boy?

Q. I'm going to a birthday party for a coworkers son. I would like to know a good gift idea and something not very expensive.

Birthday gift ideas for my 12 year old son?
Q. I'm looking for help in finding the perfect gift for my soon to be 12 year old son. What's the latest, greatest must have item that kids in his age range are wanting. He's not really into toys anymore. He's too into video games, so I don't really want to buy him another game. He plays several sports and is a bit ahead of his age.

A. - You could buy him some sports equipment of whatever sport he plays. Example, tennis a brand new racket.
- You could suscribe to a number of sports magazines.

What would be the coolest watch for Christmas?
Q. I'm thinking about giving a watch to my nephew for Christmas. He is 12 years old and in middle school. I'm looking to spend $50 or less, but want it to be something kids his age think is really cool. We don't get to visit much with him because of the distance between us. I'd like to send him an actual gift, as opposed to a gift card. His birthday is in January and I usually send him a card with some $$ at that time.
Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome.

A. im a similar age to your nephew but know that in my school loads of boys have been going around showing off there new G-Shock watches there quite big although you can get smaller ones but the only thing is i dont know whether you can get one for $50 or less.

hope i helped :)

What should I get my mom for her birthday?

Q. She's turning 40. I always get her perfume, so I want to give her something different.

A. How about a nice picture of you & her together, frame it and put it in a nice bday bag with lots of tissue, also u cud put some little body shop things in it too. Make it like a goodie bag full of little goodies u know she'll like. The soaps from the body shop are always awesome, the different flavoured(smelling) lip glosses are also a great thing to get a lady. Theres lots of really great little things u could fill the bag with, that way its a sentimental (the pic) and useful gift. The body shop also has perfumed oils in all different sizes i think, the small iol bottle is great for the bag and vanilla is loved by all women. Gosh, theres so many ideas but this is the best one i think. Im only 29 (id love this gift if it were from my son) but my mom is 45 and she'd love it too, so I can almost guarantee she'll love this if u get it for her. The pic can be a pic she has already( a pic she adores) and u can just get a copy u can say u want a copy of it then frame the copy 4 her. Dont forget to individually wrap the little gifts in the bag with tissue( wrapping tissue not toilet paper, lol) so she has a few things to unwrap...thats half the fun!! Take care

Ideas for a Christian themed birthday party?
Q. I need fun ideas! This party will mostly consist of women from the ages of 20-40. We are not corny women but we would like to play fun games that involved having to move around or thinking. I want to give away prizes. They will also be brining foods. A few themes that some of the other ladies did for other birthday parties were Mardi-Gras and soup and salads. I was thinking about doing a spanish, luau, or even "different countries" type themes.

I welcome any ideas, Thank you!

A. http://www.orientaltrading.com/party-themes-and-events/birthday-a1-388560+95-1-0.fltr

heres a link to the BEST place to get party supplies from ...luaus are always fun ...as far as games probably the best thing would be to have a girl vs guys treasure hunt and then have a gag gift like if the guys win they all get the coconut bras and hula skirts XD easiest games are some of the old time favorites like pictionary or something where everyone can be involved ...have everyone throw their name in hat and have like a 100$ gift card at the end of the night or something ...or have one of the games be like a quick Iron Chef spin off wth pizza ingredients... really the ideas are endless but you know your friends/family better then anyone

Hosting a 40th birthday party at my home - any ideas?
Q. I am hosting a 40th birthday party at my home. It will be around 8-12 women. It is during the day. I would like to have some entertainment. I was thinking spa or pychic. Any recommendations for Long Island? Any other ideas? Thank you in advance.

A. I think a Spa party is always a great idea for women.

Some other ideas:

"I'm in the Mood for Spirits" -- hire a palm or tarot card reader, handwriting analyst. Decorate with signs of the zodiac, crystal balls and beads. Pull out the ouija board!

"Welcome to the Kasbah" -- hire someone to teach your guests how to belly dance. Decorate by throwing large pillows around. Have a basket full of large chiffon scarves in brilliant colors for guests to don as they practice their belly dancing moves. Serve food such as hummus, baba ghannouj, tabouleh, pita bread etc.

"Unleash Your Creative Self" -- set up tables with old newspapers and magazines, glue, scissors and pieces of cardboard. Have each guest create a collage that reflects the birthday girl. Put them all in a binder and you've just created a very special gift for the birthday girl!

What should I make my best friend for her Birthday?

Q. I want to make my best friend a really cool Birthday present. I want to make it very creative and very unique. I am also either taking it on a plane, or shipping it. My friend is a girl, but i don't want to make anything super girly.
Any ideas?

A. My best friend made a personalised calender for me for my birthday two years ago. Every month had a different picture of me, her or the two of us together. And it was a calender for best friends so it was super sweet with cute quotes and stuff like that. It meant the world to me because my best friend doesn't live in the same country as me, but (as i hung it by my bed) it was like she was always there next to me. Even though it was for 2011 and its now 2012 it still hangs there, on one picture that wasn't designated to a month. I'm guessing its the same situation for you, if you're shipping it? As its just turned 2012, maybe that would be a nice gift?

How did you save and earn money for your wedding?
Q. I'm getting married in august of 2012 and we want to save as much money as possible. I start college in a week so I can't work as long. What are some ideas that could help me save and get money to save for my wedding. Like a yard sale and stuff like that..

A. 32 years ago my honey and I got engaged on News Years Eve.....We married in mid August and paid for the wedding pretty much on our own (my mom bought my dress). What we did was plan everything out....made a list of everything we needed.....right down to tablecloths and spoons. My honey got paid every week, I got paid every two weeks. Each week we bought something, one week it was all the napkins and tablecloths, the next week when we both got paid, we bought something more expensive...like the invites (at that time you had to get them from a actual printer, no computers) or we ordered and paid for the cake. By doing this, by the time we got married, everything was paid for, including the hotels for our honeymoon.
Instead of family giving you birthday gifts, ask them to get you things you need for the wedding...like the guest book or toasting glasses. Doing a yard sale will bring in some cash also.
Also keep your guest list down, and don't waste money on dumb things like wedding programs and favors (most people either leave them or throw them away at home). Keep decorations simple...live plants in a dollar basket makes a lovely centerpiece and cost about $5.00 total or less. Make your own invites. If you want food....serve pasta, salad and bread....along with your cake.
A cake/punch only reception is OK also.
Hope this helps and gives you some ideas.....
Good Luck!

Do it yourself Sweet 16 decorations?
Q. My sweet 16 birthday party is in March. I am very very excited! I want to make favors/decorations for the party because I love planning parties. Any ideas for crafty decor or favors?

A. Tissue paper pom poms. You can make a dozen of them for under $10! I'm not kidding, all you need is tissue paper, steel wire and a bit of time. Here's a tutorial: http://nothingbutbonfires.com/2010/02/how-make-those-tissue-pompoms
Streamer candeliers are so pretty. Just cut strips of crepe paper to varying lengths, attach them to a circular ring and then hang/attach the ring to the ceiling.
Garlands are easy to do: cut cardboard or felt into circles and join them together by sewing a piece of string through them all. Hang them from the wall, ceiling, handrail, doorframe. Banners also are easy.
Put small candles (spa ones) inside mason jars and place them on the tables. Another decor for tables are tin cans, if you wrap (and glue!) gift paper on the cans and put a few flowers (may be silky flowers too), they will turn in cute little vases. Too simple, but the result is great.
The last one, i can suggest is using Christmas lights. You can take paper cups, punch small holes in their bottoms then poke the light bulbs through (they will look like little lampshades).
About favors, as well as the decor, it will depend on your party theme, if any. But an inexpensive and easy DIY party favors are gumballs necklaces. I'm an party planner on my free time and a few months ago I made these to give as quinceañera favors. I put inside little boxes. Here's a tutorial: http://www.joyfolieblog.com/2012/04/diy-wednesday-gumball-necklace.html

Well, that's all I can think of at the moment. Just make sure the decor matches the theme, and get creative.

Birthday present ideas for best friend?

Q. Well, last month was my birthday and my best friend bought me a expensive brand name wristlet thing when I told her and others not to get me anything nice and expensive. And at the end of this month, it's her birthday and Im broke and she's pressuring me and another friend to get her something really nice and expensive... so any ideas ? should i just get her a 30$ gift card or something?

A. Why is your friend pressuring you to buy her a present? Oh well.
If you don't have a lot of money to spend, I like to get my friends subscriptions to their fave magazine. It's cheap, $15 or so, for a year of Cosmo, Vogue, Glamour, etc. And they get one a month, so it feels like a present every month, even though it is just a mag.

Q. Okay so I have got an birthday gift idea for my best friend. I wanna make a box in which you will find '16 things someone loves about her'. and i wanna write on 16 little pieces of papers different reasons why i love her and why she is my bff. But, i don't wanna write quotes really. i wanna make something more special and more realistic. Do you guys have any ideas on what should i write? THANKS !

She will see the sentimental value, if it is personal and from yourself.

Birthday gift ideas for a friend who is turning 41?
Q. He is a mexican male, looks white, and looks like he might be 28-29 years old!!! He is really into his mexican culture/heritage. Can someone suggest some gift ideas? Thank you :)
Oh, i actually bake myself so i was planning on making his favorite chocolate cake. I kind of wanted to buy him something, but its so hard to shop for boys!

A. since you bake yourself, take him while you prepare chocolate.. only if he's interested..
if not, prepare it and give him.. make sure it's full of nuts..

know his needs.. give him what he needs, not what he wants.. this way, he remembers you for a long time..
person around 41 have less desire of blowing candles and cutting cakes..
take him to a place he likes, like go and dance...

a gift of memory lasts longer than a gift of subject.. so, give him experiences not things..

what is a good way to decorate for a bridal shower?

Q. i have been chosen to decorate for my sisters bridal shower and im not 100% sure how to decorate.

Q. Her birthday is coming up next week. She just had her wedding Saturday and is leaving for her honeymoon today. I got her a gift for the wedding (well it's for both the bride and groom). The gift was requested on their gift registry so it wasn't a surprise.

how can I make the best of being on bed rest and pregnant?
Q. This is my second pregnancy. My 1st baby was a stillborn and didn't make it. So this time I had a cerlage surgery and I have to be on bedrest. I been on bedrest for a week and im so bored.. Please help. Im 14 weeks pregnant.

A. If you haven't done so, you could go shopping online for your baby registry and start one. You can even go way in depth in researching what you want and go to Consumer Reports for their product reviews and recommendations.
You could research the meaning of names that you like for your baby.
You could make a list on the computer who you would like to invite to your baby shower when it's time for that. You could compile everyone's address so you are ready to just hand it to the hostess when it's time for that.
You could start looking at birth announcements and pricing them out. That way you have already done a lot of research for when you need to do that. You could even think about what you would want them to say.
If you have any birthdays coming up in your family, you could start writing cards and/or shopping for gifts online.
You could get a headstart on your Christmas letters and cards and get on that.
You could answer people's questions on Yahoo answers of course :-).
You could make a meal plan for what you'll cook for the next two weeks and look up recipes online.
You could try to find coupons for grocery items online.
You could email some long lost friends, the people that you normally don't take time to write to.
You could check out the websites of your favorite bands and see what they're up to.
You could check on the weather and what's going on in cities that you used to live in or that your relatives live in, you can even read their newspapers online.
You could treat this as a spa vacation and put nice foot lotion on and those little cotton socks, do the same for your hands, do your nails really nice, put a mask on, get some beauty sleep and relax.
You could do a bible study online.
Now I've run out of ideas. Take it easy, all the best to you and your pregnancy.

What should I get my boyfriend for Christmas?

Q. I've come up with two good gift ideas: sheets for his bed, its a California King water bed. OR a pair of pants, hes 6'4 and weighs 140lbs, he has like 2 pairs of decent pants the rest don't go down to his feet.

I'm leaning more toward the pants, problem is I have no idea what size he is. I don't want to ask him because then he'd know what I was doing. How can I figure out his size? without him knowing?

OR what would be a better gift idea?

A. Ask his parents or his brother s/sisters to help out in finding the size of his pants.

Or look here for other ideas:

What are your absolute favorite toys for 6-12 month olds?
Q. Our son will be turning 6 months old tomorrow, and we want to get him a few new toys as a half birthday gift. What are your favorite toys for your 6-12 month old, and what do you love about them?

A. My son is 10 mos.
-He particularly likes anything with large wheels that he can turn. He has a large plastic truck with no small parts and a little train with a few cars (also no small parts). I like these because he'll spend a lot of time just turning the wheels, but then he can also push it around the room.
-He also likes things that makes a sound if you press one specific area (he has a dragon that burps--I've no idea who came up with that but it still cracks us both up!).
-Here's something that I can't describe, but he loved it especially around 6-8 mos. http://www.thinkgeek.com/geek-kids/b0a3/
-Another favorite are bathtime squirt toys like these: http://www.amazon.com/Elegant-Baby-Piece-Squirties-Vinyl/dp/B000G7WYNI/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1278662459&sr=1-4 They're fun in the bath but he also enjoys carrying them around and blowing air at himself.
-There's also the "Scout" dog (and similar products). These are more expensive (ours was a gift), though still very affordable at around $20, and they can be programmed to talk to your child and say his name, plus you can choose songs and music that it "sings" which also can be personalized. I noticed that once we got it (at 5 mos) he started responding to his name quite a bit more and I think that it will later help him build a rudimentary vocabulary. http://www.amazon.com/LeapFrog-19156-My-Pal-Scout/dp/B001W30D2O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1278662573&sr=1-1
-Board books are also great. Our son doesn't care so much to be read to yet, but he likes turning the pages (and eating them). Later maybe we'll actually get him to pay attention to the words. :)

You didn't ask, but here are some "non-baby" baby toys that our son loves:
-a lightweight flashlight. It rolls, he can hold it and he's endlessly delighted with turning the light on and off
-a set of 'blank' keys. He used to play with our keys, but as soon as he became mobile we could never find them when we needed them. I went a hardware store and bought a few different keys (not carved to any specific design) and put them on a ring. He loves it and I know where my keys are now!
-a half-full bottle of water (tightly closed). It rolls, it reflects the light, makes sound. Our son learned to crawl chasing after a bottle of water.
-a small non-helium balloon (but of course only when supervised). My son loves this; he'll chase it around and he loves hitting himself (and others) with it.

Happy birthday to your son; if you haven't already, you should be starting to get more sleep soon. :)

Is there any gifts I can give to someone who audits or does a little accounting? Maybe something to ease?
Q. their job? I know it can be stressful. It's a birthday gift and I'm just looking for any ideas.

Idk if there's any but any suggestions?

A. I used to work as a bookkeeper for several small businesses. (I know accounting, but I don't have a degree or a CPA certification.)

I don't think that such a person would want a gift related to the field. We don't want a calculator or an accounting software program as a gift LOL.

Get the person a personal gift based on what you know of them. Perhaps a book by their favorite author, a gift certificate to a decent restaurant, or even just a standard gift card that can be used anywhere. That last might be the best idea. With a gift card, they can go online to Amazon.com or other sites and purchase something that they want or need. It seems generic to do that, but really, it WILL be appreciated, since they can get what THEY want or need, not what YOU guess they might want or need.

Birthday Gift for 84 year old woman?
Q. I have a relative who is going to be 84 years old and she is married and they live in their own home.
This woman has just about everything. I would like to buy her a birthday gift ( $50 US dollars or less). I would like to buy something she does not have. I will not ask her what she would like or need.

A. I love the orchid idea. There are quite a few exotic ones (you could easily spend $50). If you choose that one, make sure to have the florist put it in a pretty pot.

Another idea might be a bird feeder to place near the window of her yard. They offer so many well-made, pretty ones. Don't forget a bag of bird seed, too. Of course, you would hang it for her.

A Christmas Wish List for 14 or 15 year old girl?
Q. I am trying to get great Christmas gifts for my 14 year old daughter but have no idea what is "in." I would like to surprise her, so I don't want to ask her. I am looking for some teen girls to give me a list of what you would love to get for Christmas if you could get anything you wanted. Especially clothes and shoes. I need the name of what it's called. Like denim skirt is too vauge? Is it an Amebercrombie jean skirt that would be best? Thank you for any help you can give me!
Does it have to be a certian type of coach bag or is it ok as long as it has the coach logo?
By the way - thank you to everyone that has responded - you all have great ideas!

A. I'm sure your daughter would love anything from Abercrombie! If you're looking for one big gift, check out their big poofy jackets. I was on the website a few days ago...www.abercrombie.com, click "women" then "outerwear" then "classic jackets" I believe. they're all $200 I believe, but it's a great investment. I know that all my friends got one last year (when I was 14), except me! So guess what I'm asking for this Christmas?? :]

I saw a few people suggest Ipods, but that's also blowing a lot of money. If she already has an Ipod, iTunes gift cards are great. Also, does she like going to the movies with friends? My dad usually gets me a gift card to AMC theaters in my stocking each year, and believe me, I use it!

Also, I saw a few girls mention Dooney & Bourke and Coach bags. I love Coach, but am very reluctlant about spending so much money on something that could be ruined so easily! I love Dooney & Bourke. I have a few bags by them that were under $200. They have a section on their website for items under $100.

http://store.dooney.com/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpSctDspRte.jsp?section=10027

For my 15th birthday my Mom bought me this little clutch by them. I bring it everywhere -- it's the perfect size for everything someone my age carries around! Look for the "Large Wristlet." It's only $50! Great deal for D&B.

I hope this helped a bit, it's kind of hard to guess what she would like without really knowing her. But I'm sure she'll love anything you find for her!

Happy Holidays!

How to wrap a gift creatively for a sports fanatic?

Q. My husband is a huge football and hockey fan. I bought him a gift in preparation for the upcoming season and need some ideas on how to wrap in a creative way. It is in a rectangular box, so it should be easy to wrap but I wanted to make it extra special. Any ideas?

A. Wrap it in the sports pages of a newspaper, with colors if possible.
If he watches these sports on tv and has a favorite snack food, tie the package with string but add little paper cards (folded up notes) with writing on them saying things like they do in the Monopoly game.
Kiss your wife to get a bag of Nacho Chips Free
Advance one step to get a can of Soda
Get out of (put in a chore he does here) Free
If you belong to Netflix
look up some sports documentaries and
put them on your queue, then,
attach another note saying something like
Watch The New York Rangers next Friday night
or
See SuperBowl Highlights Free on Saturday afternoon.
If you do this last part you have to remember that
you have to move these sports documentaries to
the top of the queue so you'll have them ready on
the day he wants.
Have fun on the birthday.

Going to New York,so what do you buy your best friend who is a guy?
Q. So I am going to New York in a few months and I want to get my friend this really awesome gift. He has always been there for me no matter what. He has escorted me for 2 years when i was running for fair queen and he is just the guy that I want to get something nice for. He is gay too. Not like openly gay but he is. I want to get him something for his birthday which is in December and I want it to be from new york. Any ideas on what to give him?

A. The Holy Bible

What are some gift ideas from around the world?
Q. One of my best friends birthday is coming up within the next couple of weeks. I have always given her lame presents, but this year I want to go all out. My theme is "around the world". I would like to give her gifts that represent countries from around the world. For example, Swedish fish from "Sweden". If you have ANY ideas please let me know! The gift doesn't necessarily have to have a literal correlation with the country, cute & sassy ideas are welcome and encouraged:)

A. Sports Gear

If sports rule your boyfriend's life, you might want to find out what his favorite sports and teams are and get him something that fits into that category. For example, your guy might be really into baseball, so getting him a baseball hat might seem like a great idea, but if he's a Boston Red Sox fan, you want to make sure you don't buy him a New York Yankees hat. Or, if he's a hockey fan, getting a basketball jersey might not be the best idea. Look at what he wears, or talk to his friends about his sports likes and dislikes.
Video Games

If your boyfriend is a gamer, there might be no better gift than a video game he doesn't have yet. If there is a big release coming up near his birthday, reserve the game early and let him know (this way, he doesn't buy it himself). Or, if you know there is a big release in the future, reserve it on his birthday, and then give him the gift when the game comes out. If money is an object, many game systems come with a "Best Of" series, which usually runs about $20 cheaper than normally priced video games. These games are a bit older, but they are a good way to get a recent game for a low price.
Music Lovers

If he is into music and always seems to be on his MP3 player, you may want to focus on this aspect of his personality. Think about purchasing some nice headphones for him to listen to his music on. There are some nice sound-dampening earphones that won't cost too much. If he has a favorite style of music, put together a mix CD with songs you think he might like. If you are doing this, try to put some songs he might not have heard or bands he doesn't normally listen to.

Or a Guitar :)
Good Luck!

There is one friend in the life of each of us who seems not a separate person, however dear and beloved, but an expansion, an interpretation, of one's self, the very meaning of one's soul. ~Edith Wharton

The best rule of friendship is to keep your heart a little softer than your head. ~Author Unknown

He who has a thousand friends has not a friend to spare, and he who has one enemy will meet him everywhere. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson~

When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares. ~Henri Nouwen

A true friend reaches for your hand and touches your heart. ~Author Unknown

We are keenly aware of the faults of our friends, but if they like us enough it doesn't matter. ~Mignon McLaughlin, The Neurotic's Notebook, 1960

But oh! the blessing it is to have a friend to whom one can speak fearlessly on any subject; with whom one's deepest as well as one's most foolish thoughts come out simply and safely. Oh, the comfort - the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person - having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as they are, chaff and grain together; certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away. ~Dinah Craik, A Life for a Life, 1859

A good friend is a connection to life - a tie to the past, a road to the future, the key to sanity in a totally insane world. ~Lois Wyse

Girlfriend birthday present ideas?
Q. Hey,

So my girlfriend is going to be 22 on Monday and I'm wondering what to get her! I have a limit of around £50. There is nothing that I know of that she really needs, which is where I'm stuck.. For previous xmas/birthdays something of hers has been broken and I've replaced it for her.. iPod, mobile phone etc. But now all is working!

So what should I buy her? She loves reading books but I couldn't pick one for her.. maybe an Amazon gift card? :S

Thanks.. :p

A. She might like these books:

The Vampire Diaries series by L.J. Smith
Eragon series by Christopher Paolini
Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer
Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling
Vampire Kisses series by Ellen Schreiber
Blue Bloods series by Melissa De La Cruz
Cirque du Freak series by Darren Shan
Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead
The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare
The Chronicles of Narnia series by C. S. Lewis
Dragon Slippers by Jessica Day George
Peeps by Scott Westerfeld
Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J. R. Ward (I only recommend this book if you are over the age of 16 and mature)
Night World series by L. J. Smith
Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins
The Host by Stephenie Meyer
Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
Angels in Pink by Lurlene McDaniel
Looking for Alaska by John Green
Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen
Post Secret by Frank Warren

But if not try making her a homemade dinner, taking her to a movie, making her a card, a poem, take her on a picnic, really anything cute and romantic like that. I would love it if my boyfriend did that. But if she isnt into stuff like that (but most females are) go with the gift card.

how to enjoy life in peace?
Q. I'm 14. I've always been the quiet, smart, serious kid that always gets work done and gets it done right. I shocked a few people when i decided to do track, even myself considering i have asthma. I'm good at percussion in my middle school's band. last year I decided to do piano lessons over the summer and resume lessons with my teacher, who's mother is a friend of my mother. I'd say I moved at a decent pace. I also tried doing B.S.A after 4 years and want to go to the end.
only problem is, I cant find peace of mind in my life. My parents are in theyr mid 50's and call me out because of the things she cant do with a boot on her foot almost constantly. I enjoy playing on mallets in band, but hate the actual drums because of how boring they are and dont produce music. I stopped piano lessons since I had to focus on school and my church but gonna start after school's out. All the kids in my B.S.A. troop are ignorant, obnoxious, and incompetent for me (theyr mostly in 6th grade, except the senoir patrol leader who is 16 and he is pretty sane). Our leader has trouble controlling them considering they are always shouting and horsing around. I stay away and avoid people because they annoy the hell out of me. I can get real p.o.ed real easy, and that aint a good idea. My science teacher is a real s.o.b (not saying that cuz my grades are bad, even tho i she barely passes me on tests and projects. she works at an alternative school and treats us like the punks at that school) and this one girl is the perfect impersonation of a little 5 year old. stupid, but not mentally retarded or disabled. I dont talk or watch sports, paulie d, or about who's dating who cuz i dont give 2 ***** about it. Cartoons are too childish and those sitcoms on disney are flat. I dont have any fancy apple products because I dont need it and some years dont need gifts for christmas or birthday since nothing good is out, and my 23 y/o sis is completely opposite. so u can say im not spoiled or demanding. Literally, I watch only watch food channel. My mind was set up even before my new HS counselor asked what my future should look like. I dont know how to "lighten up" because I dont believe my life is calm and slow with all the responsabilities I have to bare. how can I and do i ease on life?

A. One opinion: you have some problem with mother's love as respect and caring for you.
You've moved to a more independent activity level, and B.S.A. is a good choice for "running and completing a program."
Church-going is good; if you're able to read some Scripture in the kind of phase change that Spirit brings, that is indeed a good sign.
Your sentence pattern may indicate some mild "attention deficit" issue. Talking with the licensed counselors at 1-800-525-LOVE 24/7 re this possibility is worthwhile, as AD relates to "less peace," and may reflect your more independent activity level challenges. Their general website is http://www.klove.com and they keep good lists of conservative-re-prescribing-meds local counselors.
Meditation, gardening, and regular walks in safe nature places are good for calming and peace.

So, would suggest you "cowboy up" and talk with a counselor at the 1-800 number, and maybe read The Great Divorce, C. S. Lewis for some general Christian insight as to how people attain more calm. At 14, the pattern is to begin focusing on career (not to mention girls: kindly read For Couples Only, Shaunti Feldhahn), and some of the basics for career/study are personal calmness, happiness, balance. Please see They Call Me Coach, John Wooden, for some good guidance therewith. The B.S.A. is actually very educational and worthwhile: "Be Prepared" (and anxious for nothing, as the Scripture says) actually works well as a life motto :)

What can i get my 11 year old sister for her birthday?

Q. It is her birthday on the weekend and i need some ideas. She is already getting an ipod from my parents and i want to get her something special. Not money or a shopping spree but an actual gift. Maybe like earrings or something. Please give me some ideas And not like go to Claires or buy her makeup. The range is around 30 dollars.
Thanks

A. I'm 13 and when I wuz 11 I wuz all about twilight stuff an still am also alot of people my age are all about lime green and zebra print or a necklace that's got something to do with sisters or a ring with her birthstone in it

What should I get my friend for her birthday?
Q. I've known her for about two years and its her birthday party this weekend. She is getting candy, a movie and a purse from her other friends. I wanted to get her something unique. She like abnormal sized things, pink zebra and she plays tennis, although I didn't want to do something serious like a tennis charm bracelet or something. I wanted to do something fun.... Any help??

A. Here are a bunch of "girly" gift ideas by personality, so you can find something that suits here.

Gift Ideas for Her - http://www.need-gift-idea.com/gift-ideas/gifts-for-her.php

What should I get my sister for her 19th birthday?
Q. My sister is turning 19 on October 9th. Girly things aren't really her style - she doesn't look good in ruffly skirts and stuff like that. However, she does like more casual, beachy dresses, and she likes wearing halter tops too. She likes things that have zebra print and her favorite color is purple. I'm not willing to spend more than $50 on a present (I'd be paying for it myself, and I'm only 16 and have no job). Any ideas?

A. even i am 16 and i have to get her things... my story is just like yours.... u can give a wrist watch or a basket full of chocolates from various ranges, well decorated and hand made gifts like cards, photo frames , revolving cube with photos, favorite author's book, or stuff toys, any pet etc.......
