Birthday Gift Idea (for male) - HELP!?

Ok I need some help and I need it ASAP! My best friend/roommate/boyfriend's birthday is Wednesday. He's turning 30. I need a gift idea.
We live in Southern California. He actually just moved here from Texas about 6 months ago - he's a newbie.
He's BIG into sports (Loves Texas football)- cooking - fishing/outdoor stuff. He likes traveling and visiting new places and seeing new things.
He was in the military and enjoys books/movies that have to with military/history/documentary stuff.

I want to get him a gift that he'll really like and it will mean something.

Any ideas?
He LOVES sports! He wants to check out more of California (amusement/parks/touristy stuff). He loves to cook. Loves movies.

...one more thing: I'm leaving the night of his birthday (Wed.) to go to family's in Az. for Thanksgiving.
Not possible to make dinner, etc...that night.
I want to do something small tomorrow night and/or then maybe this weekend?

Are there any football games playing around the time of his b-day? Every man would die if they had tickets to a game. You could go away for the weekend and do some fishing and camping. And I would buy him a new book for a gift. But you should spend his birthday together, and don't think of going away for the weekend as his only present. Don't forget to give him the one "thing" he really wants!!! Happy 30th Mr. !!!!

College roommate birthday/xmas gift ideas?

my roommate and i just met a couple of months ago at the start of college. we have been getting along really well, and her birthday is coming up. i dont know what to get her. i know that she likes Imagine Dragons, Joseph Gordon Levitt, and sharks.

i wasnt thinking of getting her soemthing like a gift card because on a conversation she brought up that for my birthday she already knows what she wants to get me, and knowing her, i know is not a gift card, so i dont want to give her one.

any ideas?

Roommates Birthday?

My roommates bday is coming up Labor Day weekend. When it was my bday earlier this year she went all out. Party, nice dinner, stay in nice upscale hotel, gifts, jewerly, etc. Now that iys her bday coming she won't give me any thoughts or ideas on hers. She doesn't want a party, or go away, she won't even tell me a restaurant. She doesn't do the club, bar scene either. She has a really stressful job and I know she is a little depressed because last year her boyfriend of 6 yrs broke up with her. I need some help so any ideas. She is a little picky about things that she likes/dislikes.

I say have the room decorated a lil w/ banners and stuff and get a lil cake for her and sing her happy birthday and just figure out where she likes to eat or where she hasn't gone to eat and just treat her to dinner or lunch. Rack up a couple of friends and just have a nice chill night out.

Should I get my roommate a birthday gift?

So I'm not quite sure if i should get my roommate a birthday gift. This is my second semester and I have been roomming with my roommate since January (so about 3.5 months). My roommate's birthday is over spring break and I had no idea till her boyfriend was talking about it when he stayed over our dorm. So, I want to buy her a gift but on the other hand, I don't. The reason why I want to get her a gift is to show her that I appreciate her being my roommate and for being a considerate person. On the other hand, I don't because it's not like were close "friends," but we do talk. We don't really hang out with each other.

So what do you think? Should I get my roommate a birthday gift? (I wold have to give her the gift after Spring Break, though)

Make her a gift basket of unexpected things that you guys usually buy but always run out of. That's what i'm doing as a gift for my roommate. you wouldn't believe how often we run out of chapstick or gum.

We used to be roommate but she moved out but we are still friends. She invited me to her birthday, I was just wondering what will be a great and appropriate gift to her. FYI: No funny business has never occurred between us and I respect her and she has a lot of dignity.

We're not really close b/c we have completely different schedules, but the other day she surprised me for my birthday with a $25 box of truffles. We go to an expensive college and while I'm on scholarship, she's quite affluent and has more $$$ to spend. I really don't want to spend more than $15... but I'm not sure what to get her because she has very expensive taste... Any ideas?

A nice thick novel. She sounds like an uptight nerd, who also appreciates thought. That would keep her busy for a while, and is often quite cheap.
