Present for My Boyfriend?

terry s

My boyfriend's birthday is in a few days I was thinking Im going to buy him a new hoodie, some monster energy drink, and make him a cd with all our favorite songs on it we have been together for about two years do you think this is going a little overboard or do you think I should get him something a little more expensive

Answer
Good birthday gift ideas make the recipient feel like a special individual by presenting them with something personalized, unique, and thoughtful. Think of a gift that creates remarkable memories rather than fulfilling a function. You want the recipient to associate the birthday gift with your personality, as well as providing raucous entertainment or a welcome respite from stress.

One good birthday gift idea is to choose a magazine subscription. This way, you are encouraging one of their hobbies or interests as well as providing something that will last until their next birthday. Hundreds of magazines are available to match the lucky recipient's personality. You might choose an artsy magazine about crafts, poetry, pottery, home improvement and décor, photography, painting, or bead work. Sports magazines vary from rowing, yoga, and dirt biking to basketball, curling, and roller blading. Travel magazines showcase beautiful photographs alongside fascinating articles.

Another option for an original birthday gift is assembling an assortment of smaller gifts around a central theme. Does your coworker, cousin, or neighbor love watching movies? You can buy a few packages of microwave popcorn, a big popcorn bowl, caramel mix, and a DVD you think they'll enjoy. Does your sister, uncle, or best friend just deserve a day off? Choose scented essential oil, small candles, and comfortable slippers of woven straw to orchestrate a relaxing bath that drains away tension.

Your friend or relative would surely appreciate a gift that means spending more time with you. Purchasing passes or tickets to an event, park, museum, or amusement park is a sure way to persuade them to take time off and have fun. Children love zoos, observatories, and wildlife parks. You can introduce adults to your favorite small theater for a weekend play or a wild concert at a large venue. For a fancier outing, consider a ride in a small tourist plane for a tour or a train ride that stops at country wineries.

If you know someone you think has everything, try finding a gadget that was recently invented. Maybe they'd like a wristwatch that combines a thermometer, pedometer, and barometer. Other unique gift ideas include personalized items. Order a coffee mug with a picture of his or her pet. In advance, order a throw pillow or bathrobe embroidered with his or her name. If you can think of a humorous phrase or abbreviation, splurge on a personalized license plate for a year.

It happens to all of us. You get a last minute invitation to a birthday party or you forget the Christmas party coming up . . .today! What should you bring as a gift?

Well, to start with, it's a good idea to keep a few gifts on hand all the time. A roll of simple one color wrapping paper can be used with any age gift. If you travel, pick up some interesting keepsakes to give away and keep them in your gift box. A couple stuffed toys and maybe a puzzle are also good ideas. Some cute tins and elegant pens are a good investment.

KIDS

1. A quick stop at the toy store for a stuffed animal will suffice for newborns and small children up to about age four or five. After that, you need something a bit more entertaining.

2. For older kids, an art set works well. If you can find one ready made, great, if not, hike to the local stationary store and grab the following: drawing pencils, colored pencils, markers, drawing pad, tracing pad, crayons, a watercolor paint set.

3. Craft sets are good ideas, too. Many are available in the toy section of any department or hardware store, but if you can't find them, a quick trip to the craft store will solve the problem, just grab a bunch of pom-poms in assorted colors, colored feathers, pipe cleaners and some glitter glue. Stick it all into a re-sealable bag and wrap that.

4. A puzzle suitable for the age group can be the perfect gift. Since all the boxes have ages printed on the side, this will be an easy task.

5. A video. If you know the child well enough to know the sort of movies they like to watch, you can make an educated decision. If you don't know him or her well, Disney flicks are a good bet. Keep the receipt in case they already have it and stick with the latest releases as it's more likely they haven't recieved that yet.

TEENS

1. Gift certificates make great gifts for teens. Choose a music or clothing store that has lots of young people hanging out at it and purchase a gift certificate. Or you can get one for Starbucks, or another popular coffeehouse in your area.

2. Soaps are always a safe bet when dealing with teenage girls. Elegant or smelling soaps are perfect for the job. You can add a matching body lotion or shower gel and color-coordinated bath oil bubbles for a gift basket. The Body Shop is a good place to pick up this sort of thing.

3. A Walkman or Discman will be popular with most young people. Just make sure they don't already have the model.

4. A new Nintendo game (if you know th

Theyre the best home ive ever been in. I cant believe something this awesome has happened and I want to show them how much it means. Any ideas? Thank you

How artsy-craftsy are you? How about making a collage? Years ago, a coworker made one for my birthday that I kept until my last move. It could have a then and now theme--life before and after they came into your life. If you want to buy something, how about a pair of coffee mugs that have great sayings on them. Remember, it's about expressing your feelings more than the cost of the gift.

Congratulations on your accomplishment! I was a drug and alcohol therapist for many years and know how challenging it is for a teen to get clean. Keep going to meetings and counseling to build a solid recovery foundation. I'm so glad for your happiness.
