What are some good gift ideas?

I don't know what to get for my Mom for her birthday and Christmas. They are really close together in the same month. Here are some ideas I thought of:
iTunes gift card
Walmart gift card
key chain

Can you guys help me out? What are some other gift ideas, or what one of these choices do you like best?

Answer
My Mom's birthday is December 15th, so I'm in the same boat as you.
It's tough because you have to figure out 2 gifts instead of just one.

I am a mother also and I now understand what my mother meant when she would say "Don't get me anything!" It isn't an altruistic statement. It means that she doesn't want you spending money on items that she doesn't really want and doesn't have room to store.

With that in mind, I always buy my mother something that I know she will need or want, but of a better quality than she can afford. For example, I will buy her a nice bottle of wine, or one year I bought her some very expensive skin care products.

The keyring is a good idea because it is a useful item ... so make it a fabulous keyring, something she would never buy for herself. There are some beautiful Tiffany-inspired keyrings at jewellery stores. Plus, there is a sentimental factor involved ... every time she uses her keyring, she will think of you.

One year, my daughter bought me a beautiful pill case for my purse (to carry around asperin or Tylenol). The pill case is an absolute jewel -- I'm sure it cost her $20-30. But I love it and use it every day.

Perhaps you can get her a couple of items (like the keyring and a pillcase or compact) for her purse? It would be lovely to have some beautiful and high-quality purse accessories.

Secret Santa gift ideas for my best friend?

claire

Okay so my friends and I are doing a Secret Santa between the 7 of us and I got my best friend, Cally. Cally is a huge piano player and not really sporty. She wants to travel more. She's pretty girly but doesn't really wear a ton of make-up or like body shop stuff. She likes shopping and our budget is $30.00. She does wear jewellery but a few of my friends and I pitched in to get her a Tiffany's necklace for her birthday a few months ago. Also I don't really wear jewellery which takes friendship bracelets out. I have a few ideas but because we are really close and I've trusted her with things I haven't told anyone else I want to make it super special and show her how much she means to me. Thanks for your help!

Answer

What would a Korean girl like to get for her 15th birthday?

Mark P

My wife and I are currently living in Seoul and have been invited to a Korean friend's house to celebrate her daughter's 15th birthday. We are Americans in our mid-40s and have practically no idea what might interest a 15 year-old Korean girl. Anyone have any constructive ideas?

Answer
Don't get her a music CD. Her parents may not want her to be distracted from her studies with boy bands and pop music and whatnot. Also don't get her make-up, jewelry, stuffed animal and other such childish toys.

To be really honest the most culturally safest and most appreciated gift would be for you to give her money. In the US that may be considered too materialistic, crass or not thoughtful and impersonal but in Korea those negative connotation just don't exist. When I go to weddings for Korean-American friends I just give cash and I know the couples prefer cash.

Don't be apologetic when you give the gift and don't feel sorry about it or anything. Be firm and remember that you're adult and her superior in the confucist hierarchy of things and that it's entirely appropriate for you to provide by giving her a cash gift for her birthday.

Just tell her parents that you weren't entirely sure what would be an appropriate gift for a 15 year old girl in Korea and that you want to give this to her so she can use it for whatever she needs be it for books, study expenses or to have fun with her friends even though it's not much and give the gift to the girl or her parents in an envelope. That should be fine.

But make sure you feel ok with this. If you feel uncomfortable giving the gift then your hosts are going to be uncomfortable sensing your discomfort. Another good idea would be getting her a gift certificate at a clothing store or a department store.

As for the amount the gift amount somewhere around 30 thousand won is probably a good ball park figure.

It might also be good to bring some fruit for the dinner. A box of whatever fruit is in season should be fine. It doesn't have to be the expensive gift box kind. You can also bring some dessert from a bakery, etc.. But this is optional. Don't just bring the fruit and not get the girl anything. That might be socially acceptable but I think the birthday girl wouldn't be so happy with that whereas she would probably be very thankful if you gave a gift specifically to her.

Answer
You can buy bath and body works stuff and jewelry for the girly one and for the other, you can make a picture collage or give her a photo album of your times together. Or, give her gift cards to itunes, target, book store, etc.

what are good presents for a girl who is turning 12?

melissa

she likes to ride horses (english style) and read but and i don't want to just get her a gift card or something like that and she also likes to draw.

Answer
You could get her maybe like a poster of her favorite thing, like horses, or her fave singer? You could get an mp3 player for like $30 at Best Buy (or an electronic store)

Since she sounds kind of artistic, a scrapbook would be really nice for her! You could put a few pictures of anything you decide, but if you 2 are close, you're bound to have some pics together, right?
And if you dont want to do that, get a framed scrapbook page (or a framed photo/sketchbook)... I did this for my best friend, and she reaally loved it!

other gifts
-friendship necklace (or regular necklace)
-jewelry (watch, bracelet, anklet, toe ring, ring...)
-laser pen
-keychain
-CD

Go to one one of the gifts sites listed below and do the quiz about the person who will be receiving the gift. It will give you some ideas and then you can go out and shop for them.

P.S. You can narrow your search by price too.

Anyone have any good ideas for a 30th birthday gift?

My sisters 30th birthday is coming up this July, and usually she isn't that difficult to shop for, however I would like to get her something 'from the heart'. I don't always get to express to her how special she is, and I also live very far away from her, so I'm hoping to find a nice sentiment.

Answer
You should check out this website. I know it looks like it's for athletes, but you can get a poster made up for anything. They did a really nice job on one I had made for my grandpa. You can just upload pics of you and your sister. It's nice too because they can stick and restick to the wall, and it's also something you could mail easily to her since she lives far away.

It's definitely something unique and sentimental. Better than jewelry she'll rarely wear! Good luck

What should i get my friend for christmass?

cgirly37

My friends birthday is coming up and she will be a fifteen year old girl. Shes girly likes make-up jewelry and all that. i wanted to get her something juicy, but my budget is around 30-40 dollars.. thats really not a lot. do you have any ideas for gifts? i dont want something to cheap. Weve been friends since the fourth grade.. thanks!

Answer
Walk into any big department store, such as Target, walk up to a fairly young store clerk, tell her you can spend forty dollars and need a gift. You might want to decribe your friend (ie...punk, tomboy, girly girly...etc) or bring along a picture as this might give an idea of the accessories she might like and her general style. Any fairly young store cler should be able to help you.

OR

You could get any of the following presents or a combinaton of a few.

Present great for any type of girl

A necklace such as one with peace sign, or I know at Target they have a whole rack of necklaces with small charms and each different necklace gives a short paragraph as to what that necklace means, ie Friendship says "I am thnakful that in God's design he planned it so your path crossed mine."

Present for the tomboy/outdoorsy girl
Any kind of funky hat such as a peruvian-style hat (otherwise known as the hats with ear flaps). or a pom-pom beanie. add an aluminum or stanless steel water bottle, put it all in a gift bag and its a great gift for a on the go girl

If she punky
I have no idea, go with the necklace. or a fendora?

A girly-girly
Again go with necklace or some kind of braclet, here would be a goodtime to ask that store clerk.

What equivalent gift should I get my girlfriend for her birthday?
Q. Well, for my birthday, my girlfriend bought me a nice shirt from H&M ($20-$30 probably- she cut out the price). Next Monday is her birthday and coincidentally our three month anniversary.

She told me all she wants is a burned CD with some songs she's never heard. I plan on making her this, of course, but I figure I'm a schlub if I don't spend a few bucks on her as well.

Any ideas?

A. Not quite sure what stores are near you, but if you pay attention to the stuff she wears, particularly jewellery, you should buy her something similar. It doesn't even have to be real jewellery (although silver and cz are pretty cheap at certain places), it could be dress jewellery from nice clothing stores.

What's a good birthday present for my friend?
Q. I have a friend who's turning 14 and I have no idea what to get her. No gift cards, makeup, jewelry, or personalized things please. She already has plenty of music, books, and movies. I have a budget of $30. She likes swimming, outdoors, and animals. She is a huge Harry Potter fan.

A. Animal swimsuit, sporty swimsuit, Harry Potter poster/book/movie, wristband or maybe a Harry Potter Volleyball? You decide. ;)
