Ok, so I recently met this girl at a concert and we hit it off. We live like 200 miles apart to begin with and I'm moving halfway across the country soon (I'm in the military) but I plan on visiting home and I mentioned visiting her next month and she liked the idea. We both like each other but haven't necessarily talked about "dating" or anything, I'm happy with taking it slow like we have been. We talk or text on the phone just about every night. Anyways, her birthday is coming up and I was gonna order flowers for her. Is this too soon to send someone flowers on their birthday especially since we're not exactly dating? She's 27, I'm 25. Thanks for your input.

Help! It's my mom's birthday soon and I'm stuck across the world...?

My mom's over in the states and I'm stuck over in Korea, in the army and I can't get back until about 2 months later. I was thinking about ordering flowers for her, specifically pink roses which apparently suggest happiness and fun as well as admiration and appreciation. Otherwise, I don't know what I can get her. Plus, being in the Korean army, my budget's kind of pathetic. Anyone have any ideas and/or input on the flowers? Oh, and she's turning 52 this year.

Honey its not how much something costs that has any relevance especially to a mother, its the thought and love behind the object you give them, so pink roses would be lovely, but more so because your so many thousands of miles apart, so would a card mean the world to her, but the thing here is - its what you write in that card that could make the card itself a priceless gift to her you see. Words to the effect of how you wish you were not so many thousands miles apart especially on this her special day and just how much you love her and how important she is to you. Believe me she would keep that card forever and treasure it.

I don't know what the postage system is like going from Korea to the states, but if its reasonable I think something like a ' delicate looking paperweight ' would be a beautiful present to give. One of very soft colors like pink, but one that has something feminine about it. But remember the card and what you write in it - we mothers are very sentimental creatures especially when it comes to our children, grown up or not, you will always be her baby son. Perhaps on your return you could take her out on her own for a birthday meal on account of the miles of separation right now between you.

Could you get to a phone to wish her Happy Birthday? that would be lovely for both of you.

What is a creative way to celebrate my husband's birthday after a work day?

My husband's birthday is on a Tuesday and even though we will have a get-together at our house the Saturday before, I still would to like to make him feel special on the day of his birthday. The problem is we both work and won't be home until after 5:30pm-6pm and we have a 3 year old so we are limited on time. What are some creative ways to make him feel special?

Since you are both getting home at dinner time, your options are limited.

At Home: You come home at lunch and set the table for dinner and put up a few balloons and streamers. On the way home from work, you pick up a carry out order of fried chicken & side dishes.

Going Out: Ask him to meet you at a place 1 mile away from a Hooters restaurant. Between leaving work and meeting him, change into some tight jeans and a camisole top that really makes your boobs pop out. Then take him to Hooters. He will go nuts between looking at the hot waitresses and then looking at his hot wife sitting across from him. Make sure you act cool about him looking at the waitresses. You know how much guys like to look. So as part of his birthday gift, let him look all he wants. Just smile to yourself because most husbands feel guilty about looking at other women. You're secure enough to let him look. And you know he will be comparing their bodies to your body in a good way. Yes, in a GOOD way. Enjoy the attention.

Oh yeah. Shell out the cash to get a babysitter for the child until 9pm (even if it is a relative).

So, we originally planned to get married on 08-08-2008. Great day huh! Well, he wants my parents to pay for this great big formal wedding and I don't think its necessary. We don't ahve the money (I have a toddler that I raise on my own) and he doesn't have much of a savings. (I know I know)

My parents are willing to give around 3,000. Here is our breakdown right now
My Dress 350
Alterations 50
Flowers for Bouquets, centerpieces, church: 600

RECEPTION 20.00/person (limited to 100 people)

and NO honeymoon

But I really want a honeymoon. So I came up with the idea that we elope and go on a honeymoon and come back and have an informal party. My parents are willing to pay for the trip and have my grandparents and his parents pay for the dinner at the party. It wld cost about 2500.00 total. None of the frou frou just whats important, Me Him our closets friends and family.

THis idea also helps include more people
Because we could afford to feed more than 100. Its a lot cheaper to have a BBQ or Pig Roast than it is to have a sit down dinner at a hotel.

oh, and he agreed to do most of this except the date. Which is the point in all of this. He still wants to August and Is aid Honey, its going to be TOO HOT to have an outdoor party in August. So, I said June and he said No, simply becuase he doesnt like june.

I need help coming up with some ideas! On how to please us both. He wants a lot of people to help us celebrate and he wants a wedding. I want a honeymoon and romance.

Try this compromise:
cheap wedding reception venue, like a private club or organization's party room, could get it for free if a member, or really reduced price. It will be air conditioned, you could have an August wedding.
Nice but inexpensive food, pick one dish like mosstoccoli and salad and bread sticks. Or go appetizers, or small sandwiches. Or even several cold salads[it will be August] and a selection of crackers. Roll in a keg or two, and have something for the nondrinkers. Way less than $20/person.
Do your own centerpieces, try the dollar stores and craft stores for idea and bargains.
Get a cake from the grocery instead of the bakery. Or do cupcakes, even cheaper, and stylish now. Use paper table coverings, they sell rolls of paper cheap.
Then do a three day honeymoon to a romantic spot not far away. There are lots of great scenic spots in my area, with romantic rooms, for not a lot, the highest in the area is $300 a night, for a themed room [like a jungle room] in a hotel, but there are some cabins [think ski resort] near for around a hundred.
I know you would like the romance, but I am afraid someday you might regret not having a wedding and reception.
Gee, a groom that wants a wedding, a rare find, I do not know him or you, but I would take him up on that idea!
Find a cheaper invitations, nowdays the green ecology tree hugger people would love that you did not use the old formal invites with multiple layers of paper..
Consider dumping the photographer for your own pictures, or find someone in the family that does photography.
There is a huge difference in flower prices in our community, the florist a mile from my house would do a nice 12" high arrangement suitable for a birthday for $40, you could not touch a few carnations in a cheap vase for that at another across town. Shop around, and downsize a little, but even I would not skimp on the bouquets for the bridal party, or corsages for honored guests.

That's an awesome gift!!! On my 15th birthday, my parent's gave me my very first trip to Graceland. I went hysterical - not scream...crying. The men didn't know if I was upset or happy, the woman were crying right along with me. The way it was presented to me, was my dad had created a certificate on the computer that said something along the lines of "pack your bags, we leave Monday for Graceland". I think I got as far as two words before I started crying.

As for places to stay....if you do not go during Elvis Week (approx. Aug 10-17th) you have a pretty good shot of getting into The Heartbreak Hotel which is literally across the street from Graceland. Otherwise, there's hotels on Brooks Rd. You'd be a mile or two from Graceland. There's Ramada, Clarion, a couple others. I always stay at one of those on Brooks Rd. Quite honestly, I would stay at a well-known hotel...none of these motels or inns. I like staying on Brooks Rd. because your kind of in the middle of everything. Close to Graceland, the expressway (that'll take you to downtown Memphis), and closer to other places like Sun Studios, Lauderdale Courts, Stax.

I mentioned Elvis Week before. Actually, if this is your first time, I would recommend going during Elvis Week because so much is going on that week that you'll get the full experience of what Memphis and Graceland is like. You'll never have a dull moment. Plus, during Elvis Week, a lot of Elvis' friends, family, co-stars...are around in shops, in events. I met Barbara Leigh while I was roaming around a shop. I got to talk with her while she was setting her booth up, before the crowd realized she was there. I like going to Graceland because it feels like your with family. It's an experience unlike any other. Go once and you'll keep coming back. I have been there so many time since my 15th birthday and I go there every chance I get. It's like my second home.

NOTE: One drawback of going during Elvis Week...Well, it's a draw back if you're not sure your going :) ...you have to make hotel reservations and car reservations early. Like a year in advance. I want to stress that you literally have to make reservations a year in advance. 2009 is not a major anniversary so you should be OK, but when the 30th anniversary happened, I called at exactly the 1 yr mark (before) and within the first month, almost every hotel had been filled.

If you go during Elvis Week, you need to stay, if you can, for the Candlelight Vigil. Don't plan on getting any sleep and be prepared to stand still for hours that night. Trust me, it's all worth it.

Too soon for a birthday gift?

Ok, so I recently met this girl at a concert and we hit it off. We live like 200 miles apart to begin with and I'm moving halfway across the country soon (I'm in the military) but I plan on visiting home and I mentioned visiting her next month and she liked the idea. We both like each other but haven't necessarily talked about "dating" or anything, I'm happy with taking it slow like we have been. We talk or text on the phone just about every night. Anyways, her birthday is coming up and I was gonna order flowers for her. Is this too soon to send someone flowers on their birthday especially since we're not exactly dating? She's 27, I'm 25. Thanks for your input.

Should I send a gift to a celeb's home?

So their birthday is coming up and I wanted to make a donation on their behalf for one of his (and my) favorite charities and they'll just send them a letter/card saying that I donated on his behalf.

I happened to come across this celeb's actual address online while I was searching for his fan mail address. (I even checked the white pages, his wife is listed and it's the same address too.)

I thought that it would be a great idea to just have that sent straight to his home. But some fans of this actor told me that it's a terrible idea because I'd come across as a stalker and this actor would fear the safety of his family and would call the police on me, since he tends to keep his life private. And that it would be an "invasion of privacy" and that it's crossing a line.
It's not like I'm going to his house or anything, I live miles and miles away anyhow, plus I just wouldn't want to show up on his front door, that's too personal, too stalker-ish.

So should I go with my original plan and make that donation, have that letter/card sent to his/her home? Or should I just forget about it?
