Birthday Gift/Ideas for Friend from China?

Our family has a friendship with a local university student from China. Her birthday is next week and I'd like to give her a gift and maybe make her a cake. Any ideas of what would be a good idea for an 19 year old girl from China who has been in the US for less than 4 months? Right now I'm thinking of incorporating a horse when I make her cake (I decorate cakes) - since that is the zodiac for her year, and something red (maybe a red envelope for her birthday card - but that's as far as I've gotten. Thanks!

Hosting a 40th birthday party at my home - any ideas?

I am hosting a 40th birthday party at my home. It will be around 8-12 women. It is during the day. I would like to have some entertainment. I was thinking spa or pychic. Any recommendations for Long Island? Any other ideas? Thank you in advance.

I think a Spa party is always a great idea for women.

Some other ideas:

"I'm in the Mood for Spirits" -- hire a palm or tarot card reader, handwriting analyst. Decorate with signs of the zodiac, crystal balls and beads. Pull out the ouija board!

"Welcome to the Kasbah" -- hire someone to teach your guests how to belly dance. Decorate by throwing large pillows around. Have a basket full of large chiffon scarves in brilliant colors for guests to don as they practice their belly dancing moves. Serve food such as hummus, baba ghannouj, tabouleh, pita bread etc.

"Unleash Your Creative Self" -- set up tables with old newspapers and magazines, glue, scissors and pieces of cardboard. Have each guest create a collage that reflects the birthday girl. Put them all in a binder and you've just created a very special gift for the birthday girl!

You could purchase an Aquarius zodiac medallion for your friend to wear around his neck, at least he'll know what his sign is. Actually I really don't think people make the choice of a gift purchase by what zodiac sign their friend falls under. Buy/make something that your friend will like, I always like something handmade, it shows the person giving has taken a some time to make something special for me, and to me that means alot. One time a friend bought me a lighter, had it engraved...it was a nice gift, but I don't smoke! I still have the lighter, never used it. Another friend made me a picture frame, she decorated it with seashells and some netting...she also had a photograph when we were kids...now that I have hung up in my home! so get creative and make something special, if you have no idea...look at some creative crafts at a local craft center, or online (craft projects)

Get him some manga, maybe. :D It's anime in book form. One of my old girlfriends got me some, and it's really addicting. I became obsessed with it, haha.

Or if you're looking to be a little more romantic, maybe a nice watch, or a ring if you think he'd be comfortable wearing one. Ehh...XD I'm not too good with the gift ideas, but I hope I helped.

What should i get my friend for bffl day?

Me and my bestest friend have this thing called bffl day, every month we get eachother something. She got me a cute little guitar necklace (i play guitar) but i dont know what to get her. She likes cupcakes,violins and is really into braclets and necklaces with the boho chic/ native american vibe.

I think it would be creative if you used her zodiac sign to get her a nice gift. Look up her birthday and see what her sign is (if you don't already know what it is) and see if you can work around that.

If you like the idea, you could get her a bracelet or necklace with the sign already engraved on a little rock or pendant. There are tons that you can find on Ebay, or in-store. There are also certain colours and stones associated with each month of the year, so you could take that into consideration if you're looking to give her something other than jewellery.
