Problem..money is very tight at the moment, so I'm looking for creative ideas that aren't over the top in price. Any suggestions would help.

Gift idea for 80th birthday?

Caleb's Mo

My grandmother will be celebrating her 80th birthday next month. I need a good gift idea. We give framed pictures of our kids a lot, so that 's out. My grandmother (and grandfather) are still in good health and fairly active. They love music. They still go around and sing (my grandfather plays guitar) at various nursing homes for the "old people" as they call them. I'd like to give a sentimental gift, if possible, rather than something practical, as she really doesn't need anything.

Answer
For my grandfathers 90th birthday we made a scrapbook with some pictures but mostly of stories or memories that we shared with him. Things that reminded us of him, times we shared, things he shared with us. We have a fairly large family... My grandfather has 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren so there were lots of stories and memories to put in. We live all over the country so the book was mailed all over and each person filled in the things they wanted to and then it ended up with me and I brought it with me to our family reunion. Even if you don't have a lot of people and just did this with your family it would still be cherished.
Another way you could do something similar is by creating a photo book at http://www.snapfish.com You can pick the size and cover and then you just upload your pictures and you can add captions. They turn out much like a coffee table book. I was extremely happy with the one I made.

Gifts for birthday? ideas?

Taylor

My boyfriends birthday is on the 10th. He is turning 17. I have no clue what to get him, and right now I am finishing up this semester 4 hours away so I won't be able to see him in his birthday, I am sending it via. Mail. He told me his favorite team is Yankees. His favorite sports player is Derek Jeter. His favorite candy is starburst. His favorite food is pizza, and his favorite drink is mt. Dew. What could I get him? What is a cute way to send it via mail?He also plays sports, football and baseball. He lives in Alabama. Likes to fish, hunt, mudding. Likes Alabama football team. So I need ideas for gifts, and mailing. Thanks :)

Answer
This may take much of your time but I suggest maybe you could get him all of the things you've mentioned. Maybe send him a box with a card explaining the gifts you sent him and why you sent him these gift. I was thinking you could pack a baseball shirt (with the Yankees label on it), a pack of starbusts (so he has something to eat on his birthday), a few cans of Mountain Dew and maybe even a nice framed picture of the both of you with a letter on how much you love him (just so he will remember you much more on his birthday). Anyways, it's the gifts from the heart that matter and I really think he'd appreciate all the effort you put into putting together this gift and mailing it to him.

Hope this helps!

16th birthday gift ideas for my best friend! Help!?

*luckylu*

My best friends 16th birthday is coming up, we've been best friends for almost 5 years and I want her gift to be something awesome but not too expensive. Nothing like a picture frame with a cute picture of us or a scrapbook or anything like that, that's too common. I need a cute idea, hope you all can help!

Answer
Does she like cute and fun items, plus getting lots of stuff in the mail?
You could get her a subscription to a gift package service. She'll get a fun surprise package in the mail each month and each time its full of exciting surprises!

The name of the company is fair ivy surprise package subscriptions. i get them from my friend and love them :) I love waiting for mail....plus it feels like she's giving me a gift every month!

UNIQUE gift ideas for my BEST friend for her birthday?!?

!!!!!!

shes turning 16 and lives in a different state so something i can mail to her.. i dont want it to be boring like clothes or gift cards but something UNIQUE.. but i cant of anything!! help please =)

Answer
Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:

Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!

The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.

Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.

Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.

What to make my college brother for Christmas?

Q. My brother's a college freshman this year, and I'd like to make him something really nice for Christmas because he gave me a really special birthday gift. I don't want to just buy him some electronic or anything- I want to give him a personal gift. But I don't have any ideas. I thought about making him a quilt, but I can't sew. I thought about making him one of those tie-fleece blanket things, but they look too feminine.

Any ideas? Please help me!

A. The cookies of the month idea is a good one, or fruit of the month or something else if cookies or things like "quick breads" aren't suitable for him.
Quick breads btw also mail well and last awhile (e.g., banana bread, zucchini bread or even zucchini chocolate bread, pumpkin bread, apple quick bread, etc are some of the sweet versions):

As for the tied fleece blankets, they certainly don't have to look feminine if you choose the colors/patterns carefully. Instead of flowers or "youth-oriented" images and instead of bright or purple/pink/etc. colors, just get him more-neutral colors, perhaps a pattern instead of "images," etc. (If he has a particular interest like sports or outdoors, etc., you could try and find fleece or fleece blankets in that motif since there are loads of fleece patterns at fabric stores available these days.)

You can do the ties, or you could also just sew two of the blankets or equivalent yardage of fleece together around the perimenter near the edge, or do that leaving a gap then turn the two inside out and sew the gap closed by hand, or add a binding to one rectangle of fleece (or two-attached) again in a neutral color perhaps, etc.

Another simple but homemade way to finish the edges would be to do a "blanket stitch" all the way around with some perl cotton cording/thread just to give the blanket a little more decorative look. You could make the stitches any size you wanted and use any color you want so that the stitching would be very subtle or very visible.
(Fleece doesn't ravel so actually nothing is needed on the edges, but anything you put there may keep the edges from curling inward a bit).

There are some examples of various colors of blanket stitch on the edges of fleece in this search, as well as lessons:

Approximately how much will it take to ship something small to Germany?
Q. I have a friend in Germany, and it was recently his birthday, and I want to send him a late birthday gift. I was thinking of a t-shirt or something of similar weight. I know I can just go to my local post office to find out how much it would cost, but maybe I thought it would be easier to just get an answer on here. Anyone have any idea? The total weight should be about 1lb or less.
Thanks!

A. Pretty likely at least $15. Air mail isn't cheap. Get a Tyvek envelope to put it in. They weigh almost nothing and are very strong.

What happened to all my emails in my inbox?
Q. I used to have about 2,000+ emails in my inbox and now I only have 114. I know one of my emails was a birthday gift card and now I can't find it. Something wiped out the emails.

A. A number of people are having this problem of entire blocks of e-mail vanishing Yahoo have no idea why. The number of people on here who lose important mail, photo's, document's et al is amazing. The first rule of computers is make a back up. The second is..another one. . Hard drives die, memory sticks die, mail goes missing, with 1 Tb drives at the price they are now it's not that expensive. Better safe than sorry.
