its for my step son so money is not really an issue, want to get him something nice, no gift cards, the problem is we know pretty much nothing about him because of the mother...and yes my husband does try to contact him but she makes it impossible and she will not tell him anything that he wants or needs. any ideas?

Action figures are a good idea.Send him a photograph album ,with picture of his dad and where you are .pets ,stepbrothers and sisters ,so that he knows that there is something else out there .Postcards too.What about your husbands' parents ?This child has a Gran and Grandad maybe ,that he might like to know about sometime .Give him a time capsule for when hes older ,so he knows where half his life comes from .When hes older ,he will know you cared about him.

Inexpensive birthday party gift ideas for 7 year old boy?

Although we (I have twin boys) appreciate being invited to a classmate's birthday party, seems we get invited to many. It gets expensive and hard to even come up with an affordable gift idea. Not to be ungrateful to be included, but it also seems the kids who have the large, elaborate, invite everyone, parties are also kids who already have anything and everything they want, so any gift they might want or would be impressed by would be more than we could spend (bakugan, redakai, etc.) Ideas?

The past few birthday parties we have gone to I have gotten the presents from the dollar store. The kids don't know the difference and alot of times they like the cheaper gifts. Crayons, coloring books, bouncy balls, the things you put in water and they get bigger.

You can make him a gift basket with outdoor games like jumping rope, basket ball, bubble soap, sidewalk chalks, water balloons - I'm sure he will find many way to use and play with these items.

You can record yourself reading bedtime stories (or a long book divided to chapters) - he'll be able to listen to the stories whenever he feels like without asking someone to read it for him or while on long time on the road.

Make him a dress up trunk with old clothes, gowns, swords, crowns, old shoes - This is a great gift - especially when friends come over for a play date.

Q. My nephew is about to turn 6. I have a 3 year old girl so I'm not used to buying for boys - can any one help me out? What is "in" these days? Also, if you have educational recommendations that'd be great too because he is pretty behind on speech and other areas.....so something that would keep his interest as well as teach him would be best. Lego's are great, but they are not cheap.
V Tech and Leap Frog have hand held educational game systems with educational video games they can play with words, phonics, math, etc..
If he plays a sport at all get him something to that effect like a new soccer ball, basketball, bat and baseball etc.. and include a jersey of his favorite team
A play tent is always fun. My son loves his and so do his cousins who are 2 1/2 and 7 when they come over. It's a big hit and they aren't expensive. Check toy and sporting goods stores.
kids science lab type kits are usually fun and a big hit. They come in different themes. Check at an educational type toy store or book store for them. Barnes and Nobles will sometimes have them.
Apples to Apples JR. would be good for word recognition and using synonyms and opposites. It's geared for kids around his age and a little older. Scrabble Jr. is also a nice board game to encourage vocabulary and spelling skills.

Deck of "Brain Quest" trivia cards for his grade and the one after would be a good idea.
Interactive books with pop up parts or diagrams of things like castles, dinosaurs, pirates, etc..

My son will turn 10 years old on December the 7th. I've decided to do something smaller (then the usual Birthday party) this year. I am going to let him pick just 1 or 2 friends and take them all to a place called Play World (much like chuck-e-cheese). My question is, should I provide the quarters for the games for the other children or should their moms/dads be asked to send the money. Also, can anyone throw in some ideas to make the day a little more fun. Examples: Cake or pizza or both? Good ideas for popular gifts for a 10 year old boy? How long should the party last? Should I invite my mother, grandmother, ect., or just take myself and the kids. Also, any awsome ideas for a great grand finale? Any good ideas would be appreciated!

Most places like that have party packages, and include so many tokens per kid for the games. So, check into that, and then tell the parents who RSVP that if they think their child will need more than X amount of tokens, then they are welcome to send the money for them.

Most parties my kids' have gone to in places like that have had both cake and pizza, but it's really a personal preference, and also depends on the time of the party (I mean, if it's 12:30 than everyone's going to show up hungry, but if it's at 3 then everyone's already ate and cake would be fine).

Since the party will be someplace that will probably be loud, inviting grandparents or parents may not be a good idea, especially if they wouldn't like the extra noise. My suggestion on that would be to have another party for your family, say at home or at a restaurant. Maybe having them meet you after the Play World party for dinner would be a good idea? Or, having the Play World party early enough that everyone will eat at the restaurant and have cake there after, only inviting the older people to the dinner?

A grand finale could be a sleepover, going to the movies, or even hiring an entertainer or having the boy's hero show up (a firefighter, police officer, etc.)

I have a cousin that will be turning 7 and I was going to get her some play makeup and maybe a purse and jewelry.

I also have a son that just turned 2 yrs old but he acts much older. He is into cars, monster trucks (his favorite is Grave Digger), Spiderman and Superman, anything from the movie Cars, and basketball and baseball stuff. We got him a adjustable basketball hoop that goes from 4 ft. to 6 ft. at Wal-Mart for about $30 and he's been shooting hoops like crazy for the past week! Also, depending on your budget...any of the motorized trucks, cars that they can ride in. We got our son a Spiderman 4 wheeler and it was only $65! He rode it the rest of the night at his birthday party!!!

Well he is 7 so school supplies is always a good idea! Maybe a set of pencils with some cool erasures and a sharpener. You can even add a small note book or some stickers. They are kids so they lose everything (especially pencils and small stuff like that). School supplies is always needed all year long. You can't go wrong with that!!!



And turning 7 is a special age because they are no longer little little kids anymore!

Oriental Traders sells loads of the sweet decorations.

You might want to have a "Make your own sundae" party. Have several flavors of Ice Cream and all sorts of toppings for the girls/boys to put on. Have whipped cream available and most definitely large bowls.

You can used crushed oreos, sprinkles, nuts, cherries, M&M (minis) and anything else you can think of for the toppings.

Make up treat bags, but I would limit the amount of sweets. Some parents may object. You could put in gift certificates to McDonalds, Burger King. I know that they use to have booklets you could purchase.

If you know of someone that would like to come in and give the girls a manicure/pedicure, that would be fun. Or have someone paint faces. Girls love that! Or how about playing dress up. Go to a second hand shop and buy some inexpensive clothing and hats and have them dress up.

Luckily I know what I am getting for my grandmother for Christmas (a tie blanket that i made), but the others are tough. My first sister, brother, mom, and best friend are the hardest.

My sister is graduating from college in like a week so I need help with that too. For her, I was thinking that I would buy a sweet sister photo frame that I found on Amazon and put a picture of us two in it and give it to her. I don't know if that should be her graduation present or Christmas present but either way I need to buy it soon for it to get here in time. For her birthday a couple months ago, I made her a card and wrote a letter that made her cry (she is really emotional). I want he to know how much I care about her, but I donât want to make her cry again. I want ALL of my Christmas presents to be meaningful, and I am willing to spend some money but I am only a 15 year old girl and donât have a ton. My sister is 23 and she means to world to me.

My other sister is older and is married with a two year old girl and four year old boy (I love those kids sooooo much!) but I am not sure if I will buy her anything for reasons I would rather not post. I love her, but I don't know if I can find a real meaningful gift for her because of some stupid and selfish things she has done, but if you have any ideas, please be my guest! (NO GIFTCARDS WHAT-SO-EVER!)

I know what my parents are getting me for Christmas (oops) and i kind of feel bad about it. I really want it, but I donât know what to give back. I am the youngest, so i hate to admit it but i am kind of spoiled. I feel like my parents spend more than is necessary on me and i really want to show my appreciation to them My mom loves aggot hunting and rocks and fossils and all of that stuff. (We want to go to Madagascar one day lol) My mom says that she wants a rock cutter or polisher or tumbler or something but they are expensive so I might be able to split it with my sister but she is pretty poor with her boyfriend since they are only just graduating from college, and my mom may have already bought herself a rock tumbler or is planning to from the Christmas money she already got. I donât know but i want to find something meaningful and although that is something I know she really wants, it is not something I would usually buy especialy since I have virtually no way of getting it without her knowing unless I found the perfect thing and managed to get my sisterâs help.

My dad, his birthday is only in a little over a week so i am stuck. I might just make him a cake since he thinks everyone will forget about his birthday since it is sooo close to my sisterâs graduation, but for Christmas, I donât know. I love my dad but we have an odd, unbalanced relationship sort of like with my other sister. Maybe I will just give him a card with a meaningful saying or something. My dad rarely shows real emotion because of the way he grew up, but I wish I could make him. I feel that I owe my daddy in a way.

My brother is probably the toughest of all. He is 21, loves hunting and hanging out with friends. I really canât think of anything meaningful for his Christmas present.. He will be in Germany with one of friends for Christmas this year, but that doesnât mean that I donât want to get him anything. I wish that i had a better relationship with my brother and could spend more time with him, but he is never around. I would love to go skiing with him or something this winter, but I donât know if we will get the chance. He wais we could go last year but never did. We went togeather when I was in 7th and 8th grade with school and that was really the last time I got to spend a lot of time with him. His stuff lives at home, but he lives with his friends closer to his school. I am usually home alone with my parents since all of my siblings have pretty much moved out. He is one of those guys that has a lot of energy but, thankfully, is using it in a productive way by shooting deer and become a cop to help society's fight against crime. I want my brother to know how much I do love him and miss him. I get a hug from him every chance that i get, but it just does not feel like enough. My brother is crazy, but I love him and miss him, and just want a present that will show it in one way or another.

Last but not least, my best friend. Because of drama in our school, we have become better friends than ever this year. Maybe I should just give her a gift card (she is the only exception) but I donât know if that would even be good enough. It feels incomplete on my part. I donât know. For reasons unspoken, she is tough to buy for. I do want to give her something meaningful, but I really donât know what.

I am sorry that this is so long, but I really want this to be a special Christmas.

Yes, this is the original Fantasy Fudge recipe from the back of the Kraft Marshmallow Creme jar. We'll never know why they changed the recipe on us, but we've preserved the recipe for you right here.

3 cups sugar
3/4 cup margarine
2/3 cup evaporated milk
1 12-oz. (340 g) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 7-oz. (198 g) jar Kraft Marshmallow creme
1 cup chopped nuts
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Traditional method:
Combine sugar, margarine and milk in heavy 2-1/2 quart saucepan; bring to full rolling bail, stirring constantly. Continue boiling 5 minutes over medium heat, stirring. Remove from heat, stir in chocolate till melted. Add marshmallow creme, nuts & vanilla; beat until blended. Pour into greased 13 x 9-inch baking pan. Let cool and cut into 1-inch squares.

Microwave method:
Microwave margarine in 4-quart microwave-safe bowl on HIGH (100%) 1 minute or until melted. Add sugar and milk; mix well. Microwave on HIGH 5 minutes or until mixture begins to boil, stirring after 3 minutes. Mix well; scrape bowl. Continue microwaving on HIGH 5-1/2 minutes; stir after 3 minutes. Stir in chips until melted. Add remaining ingredients; mix well. Pour into greased 13 x 9-inch baking pan. Cool at room temperature; cut into squares. Makes 3 pounds.

Note: Can be made in a smaller pan for thicker squares (yield will be reduced).
