My daughter is turning 16 in a few weeks, I lost contact with her thanks to her dad, she found me an we been texting each other for a few weeks. Her birthday is coming up and I dont know what to get her, it cant be big, I'll have to leave it at her school, its the only way I can give it to her. What are 16 year old girls into??? Please help

If you are 'sneaking' her a gift due any type of legal custody issues, I would advise you NOT to do this to her. No one can 'make' you lose contact of your own flesh and blood. The best gift would be legal action to begin proper communication. Anything else will send her the wrong ideas about how real relationships work. If this is NOT the case, a 'small' sized gift would be anything electronic and the add-ons that go with it. Think iPod.

I've been seeing this guy for about a month and his birthday is coming up. He doesn't want too serious of a relationship, but I really want to get him something for his birthday. It needs to be something not intimidatingly serious, but something somewhat significant. Something he'll really like, but not feel like he owes me anything. I met my boyfriend 5 months ago whilst on exchange in Italy. He's from Peru and I am from Australia. He's back at home now for holidays before he goes back to finish his degree in Italy. I am planning to go over to Italy again in January/Feb. I went home about a week ago and we are trying our best to make the long distance relationship because we love each other. It's his birthday soon and I want to think of something amazing to do for him!

What is a good birthday gift idea for a Chinese lady boss?

Q. Hi, I have a new chinese lady boss who is a very nice person and I would like to get her a gift for her upcoming birthday. I havent had the time to really get to know her, so I am counting on finding some standard time tested gift ideas that I cant go wrong with. It would be preferable if the gifts have some sort of a chinese theme to it that she might appreciate.

- Most Chinese value the colours red and gold, because it is the colour of good luck
- Never give any forms of knives as a gift (e.g. letter openers, manicure sets etc) because it is perceived as a symbol of severing the friendship.
- Never give clocks, fake cash (like those rectangular notepads with dollars printed on the back of them) or white flowers--these are mourning items, and receiving them would be perceived as wishing they were dead.

Normally I don't give personal birthday gifts to a boss, but might initiate to arrange with some colleagues buying a joint gift for her. This makes the boundary clear that our relationship is business, not personal; and it avoids misinterpretation, especially in cross cultural situations.
