Mother-in-law christmas gift ideas?

Brandy

My MIL has everything she needs, and I wanted to get her a digital camera for christmas but her daughter said she wouldn't use it. I want to get her something that is nice and that hopefully she will like, My budget is around $100 for her. If you guys have any ideas please share them with me.

Answer
brandy, first of all please don't do gift certificates, or gift cards. to my way of thinking they just scream out "i couldn't be bothered trying -so here go buy something". of course thats just my thought. but here is what my d.i.l.'s have come up with.
my first daughter in law was apparently in the same boat, so she decided to buy me a charm bracelet, not those new-fangled things that are flat, but a proper charm bracelet, and then for special occasions she finds new charms to give me. in fact when they wanted to announce they were expecting their first child, they bought me a baby bootie charm for my bracelet!
my second daughter-in-law started me on ornaments. these are 'willow' ornaments, and every christmas i receive a new piece.
my third daughter-in-law was at a total loss until one day she overheard me saying i had never had a pedicure or manicure. now, every christmas and birthday i get sent off for both!
so think along the lines of my beautiful d.i.l.'s......and find something you can add to as time goes on.
good luck!

50th birthday ideas for my mother in law on a low budget?

WAG

my mother in law will be 50 next week. since nobody has any extra money nobody wanted to plan anything. i feel something should be done. any suggestions on how to make a special day with little $$? we have family dinners all the time so those are no longer special.

Answer
First of all u r being very kind for taking the initiative for ur mom in law even though u have no extra money and noone else is bothered.I love ur attitude.
You can bake a cake at home or at a friends place(if ur mom in law is staying with u). Decorate it well and write a nice message on it.
U can also download some favourite movies or music of hers and burn her a cd. Just buy a blank cd and download stuff from the net.
U can also make her a handmade gift coupon book with 50 leaves where every leaf entitles her for something. She can use the coupons to get her chores done by someone.Like in exchange for a coupon someone will do her laundry ,or give her a foot massage or things like that.
U can make a huge handmade card and get everyone to sign it.
Just use ur imagination and also search the net for ideas on homemade gifts. These r inexpensive but she will surely appreciate the fact that u made an effort.
Good luck

Any good ideas for gifts for a nine year old girl?

briek24

I'm trying to come up with ideas to give my mother-in-law for my daughter's ninth birthday. any thoughts? she isn't allowed hannah montana, bratz, etc. just curious if anyone has ideas of what the kids are into at this age - she is losing interest in Barbie dolls now.

thanks for any ideas!

Answer
These are just a few ideas
Get her a musical instument that you know she would like to learn (drop in a few questions) and then when she opens it and says wow but I can't play it then you say well you will soon we are going for your first lesson today. A friend got that for her 7th birthday and is now nearly grade 8 and has been thanking her parents all of her life.

Maybe you could organise her a suprise sleepover and then at the party give her a sleepover kit you know cute sleeping bag, suitcase, new pyjamas ect.

You could give her a pre paid visa so that you can put as much money on it as you want and maybe a nice purse and then take her and some friends shopping.

You could also buy her a rucksack filles with loads of little toys like stoking fillers and then she can have a great time opening loads of little presents.

Wish her a happy birthday for me and good luck.

Foods that hold up in shipping?
Q. My husband and I want to make my mother in law a gift basket for her birthday, and I would like to make several homemade treats. I am already making cinnamon almonds, but am kind of stuck as to what else I could add. I wanted to make truffles, but those have to be refrigerated. Any ideas as to things that would hold up well through shipping?

A. Bar type cookies travel well: [think] brownies, Blondies, Seven Layer Bars, etc. do very well in shipping.....

There are a billion recipes [on the net] for "brittles" that you make in the microwave oven, simple and heck, it's SUPPOSED to break!!!

Tuxedo (White and Dark Chocolate) Dipped Pretzels are a breeze to make and travel well.....

You might want to visit Pillsbury.com or FoodNetwork.com for more ideas........Enjoy!!!

So my son's first birthday is the 19th of this month and i need some lunch ideas?
Q. i want to make sure that my guest will be fed right. the way i look at it is these people are taking time out of their days and buying gifts for my son so i should make sure the food is damn good. feed them right and send them home happy. lol got any ideas? my mother-in-law is making some turkey and mashed potatoes with gravy. but i need more ideas then just that.

A. Turkey and mashed potatoes with gravy is not really little kid birthday party food. I'd do a bbq with hotdogs and hamburgers, potato salad, baked beans, a fruit salad, veggie tray, and chips and dip.

But if your mother in law must make the turkey, then things that would go with that would be mac and cheese, dinner rolls, garden salad, pasta salad, corn on the cob, chili beans.
