My friends birthday is coming up so I wanted to bake her a cake and then put a message in inside of the cake so when she finishes eating there would be a message. I heard you could put aluminum foil over the message. Also if that was possible could you put a giftcard in the cake?

Answer
As long as you take precautions to prevent the ink or graphite (pencil) from leaching into the cake as it bakes (like wrapping the message in foil), leaving a message in the cake shouldn't be a problem. A gift card, on the other hand, could be a problem.

If the gift card is plastic, or even laminated, as gift cards often are, then the plastic or laminate could melt and infuse the cake with the fumes and/or odor of the melting material.

Another idea would be to arrange to have the wrapped message or gift card placed under the cake as it's being packaged for delivery to the birthday girl and/or party; or even placed under her piece of cake.

How do I get a package to Russia?

Lauren D

My boyfriend is in Russia and I would like to send his birthday present but he can't pay the required tax is there a way for him to get it without paying? I have heard of personal delivery services but can't seem to find any. Help me please.

Answer
Although FedEx, UPS and DHL sometimes provide this service (duty-paid), they can be quite expensive

I have a different idea - send him a gift from inside Russia. There are many online stores in Russia (ozon.ru is probably the most trusted one), which accept U.S. credit cards (PayPal does not work in Russia and using Russian analog is too cumbersome for you).

The caveat - you have to read Russian
