I'm going to my friend's daughter's 1st birthday party in two weeks and am looking for a gift that is a little different than just getting an outfit at Gymboree or a run-of-the-mill toy. Any ideas or suggestions on websites to check out?

Answer
Yay! I've been looking for a question like this one to answer! :) I think I've got a good idea for you. The product is called "Bebe Doos Perfect Ponies." It's a headband with ponytails attached. (No, not a wig, just an accessory.) The ponies are tied with colored bows of your choice and have a swarovski crystal in the middle. I know it sounds crazy, but at least check out some of the photos on one of the websites (the Facebook page has a lot):

Here's the description from the website:

Bebe Doos© Perfect Ponies
These baby pigtails with headband, give baby girls a new cute look. They are the most unique new baby accessory. Bebe Doos© Perfect Ponies are so much fun! These fake hair headbands actually look very natural. Most people believe it's their real hair! Watch "18 Kids & Counting" to see Jordyn Duggar wearing our Ponytail/ Pigtails Headband. Also seen in Oct 2009 People Magazine on Jordyn Grace Duggar. This ponytails/pigtails headband started as a fun little project and now has grown to a great little business. They are now sold in 7 states and 12 Boutiques. To see a list of stores that carry them visit: www.BebeDoos.com. Bebe Doos© Perfect Ponies is PATENT PENDING. They have also been safety tested and passed all new baby product laws. These ponytail headbands come in 3 hair colors: Blonde (lightest), Frosted (medium & matches most babies) and Dark Brown (Darkest). The ribbon is available in several colors: White, Black, Shocking Hot Pink, Pink, Lavender and for a limited time Red. If there is another color you would like, special orders are available. When ordering please specify which color combination you would like. Every Ponytail Headband will come on a white band that is 14" long relaxed, this lace elastic band is soft and easily stretches to fit a two year old...maybe even three! :)Thanks for looking!!! :) www.BebeDoos.com

Please do not forget to include your choice of BOTH, the Hair color AND the Ribbon color for your order! =)

We purchased these after seeing them on 18 Kids and Counting. (Jordyn Duggar wears them.) They are absolutely adorable! Our 10 month looks so cute in them and they really match her hair color.

These work for babies with not a lot of hair or a head full of hair. The creator of these says that the headband could even stretch to fit a two or three year old. It would be perfect for a one year old! This is a really cute and defintely unique gift! I really hope this works out for you! :)

How can I have a lowkey first birthday party for my daughter?

I am throwing a lowkey party tomarrow for my daughter's first birthday and I need some ideas for easy games or activities to keep my friends and family entertained. There will only be about 10 people there and only a couple kids 3 and under.

Go for it! We did the exact same thing 6 months ago for our daughter's one year old birthday, for a number of reasons. We had mostly adults and preferred to put the money we DID have into something that would mean more to her (her first bank account).

So, we had a backyard party, with balloons and streamers, plastic tablecloths, and pin the tail on the donkey! We also played musical chairs and karaoke. Instead of favor bags, I bought actual gifts for the few children that were there, and gave it to them as their game prize (we made sure each child won a game). The adults had fun helping the children "win", but they also joined in playing musical chairs, 3-legged relays, and playing cards. We had a potluck and individual cupcakes and ice cream cups to simplify things. We bought her a small, personal cake so that she could blow out the candle (which she was too irritated to do). She opened gifts then everyone left.

It came down to the family getting together and having a good time with each other.
