I have always rented a bouncy house of her choosing, invited a whole class or just friends. Bought her lots of great birthday gifts she's been wanting. ( not all, we save some of those ideas for Christmas) BUT, this time around... I'm on the TIGHTEST budget ever. I have payed a smaller amount for prek ( catholic school) so I had money, kindergarten is different.
I need to pay a big amount for kinder. Uniforms, and shoes/shirts for those uniforms and supplies and so on. The first month is doubled the amount I pay for school. I will be on tack a month later.
I have to pull out my credit card ( almost a year I haven't used it )
( there is nothing wrong with public school, I prefer catholic until she hits highschool it's her choice.)
( single mom here) and I feel terrible I can't do all this for her birthday and she has been planning since last year. How do I break this to her and how can I plan a nice birthday for her and us.
sorry, I ment to ask, what do I do for my daughter BIRTHDAY on a budget?
Funny, but no time for a job. Live in b/f with a eight month old. He pays house bills/utility/car house and etc. I help out with food shoping and clothes for them. He goes to school full time than work. I try to take resposibilty for my own daughter. ( he helps and buys her stuff and everything ) He helps out with her a lot, but I like to take responsibility for my own child.

So she's about 5/6?

How about a creative party. Start with a play in the garden- provide cushions and picnic mats, some balls, and maybe but one of those cheap but large play parachutes (they can be really cheap) and do parachute games with them, you know the type of thing. Let themselves wear each other out playing with their own imagination for about 45mins, before bringing them inside to properly start.

Sit them down at the table and also put down picnic mats (alternatively, if cleanable, just keep it clean) on the kitchen or dining room floor- whichever you can fit. Give them a pack of four biscuits each, a small bit of sprinkles each, some icing (spoon the icing onto each biscuit each time they start another one), some of those sugar flowers, smarties, sweets, whatever cheap decorations you can find. Put them aside to dry with a label so you know who made who, and start them on making crowns. This is cheap and simple. Get a few bits of card, measure it around the head of your daughter to cut them out, and put some spikes on them. Put newspaper across the floor and give the children glue (middle of room- YOU help them too), cheap stickers, some felt tips and pens, and cheap decorations. It can be girly crowns or not, but it's quite cheap. It cost me £4 last year- so $7 in total. Was cheap and fun and took a while. If you have some decoration type stuff left over, and some card, before the party, cut out some name tags- small - and write the names of the children on them in bubble writing, and let them decorate those too.

At lunch, go for cheap and snacky. Cocktail sausages, crisps in bowls, and pizza squares, and let them eat their decorated biscuits. Give them carrot sticks and cucumber sticks, and have a small plate of sandwiches. Don't go out too much, they'll fill up on their biscuits! Buy a plain, square cake, covered wit homemade lemon icing, sprinkle with sprinkles and stick in candles for a cheap cake.

After that, go to the park, let them run around, play in the playground etc;

Birthday gift basket theme ideas for my mom?

Diana Prin

I am thinking about making a themed gift basket for my mom for her birthday and the only two ideas I have came up with are a pamper yourself basket or a movie night basket. I have some ideas of what to put into each, but just looking for other ideas from you guys on what could go into each basket and also what other basket ideas do you have or have personally done or recieved! Thanks so much.

Answer
I have made a lot of baskets professionally and personally. Pamper and Movies are a very popular theme. I think the key is in what you put in it and how well you theme it.

For example - Pamper Basket
Typical items such as lotions, scrubs, etc
Tools - loofahs, bath brushes, toe separators etc
Soothing Scented Candles
CD of relaxation music
Chocolate or herbal teas
Bath Pillow, towels
Pedicure items
a fun book or magazine to read in the tub
The key is the container as well - get creative - baskets are hardly ever reused unless very nice. Try something useful such as a pretty bathroom trash bin, a foot spa tub

Movie Baskets a super fun!

I try to include the persons favorite things
Candy, nuts, beverages, and of course popcorn. Popcorn can be the popping bags, or gourmet pre made such as chocolate covered.
Popcorn toppings such as cheese
Movie tickets
Dvd's of fav movies (can even theme such as girly movies and include tissues)
Include a snuggling blanket for curling up on the couch
A book the movie was based on

Getting creative with containers on this theme is great too, such as a big popcorn bowl and include the indvidual popcorn cups.

A few other popular baskets I do are:

Tea basket - with tea pot and cups, teas, cookies etc on a tea tray

Coffee lovers, coffee or cappuccino cups, coffees, flavored stirrers etc

Chocolate theme - all things chocolate with a fun "chocoholic gift item"

Italian theme - in a large metal strainer or pasta bowl - all the trimming for an italian night, pastas, sauces, oils, kitchen tools, towels, bread sticks, cook book etc

Breakfast theme, all the breakfast fixing, pancake mix, muffin mix, kitchen tools, syrups etc with a nice griddle

Game Night - board and card games, snacks, couch blanket etc

Casino night (great if you have a casino near you) vegas themed items, coins/ money for gambling, tickets to a show or dinner at casino etc

Hope this helps some, if you come up a set plan let me know, I can offer lost more suggestions
