I'm going to my friend's daughter's 1st birthday party in two weeks and am looking for a gift that is a little different than just getting an outfit at Gymboree or a run-of-the-mill toy. Any ideas or suggestions on websites to check out?

We purchased these after seeing them on 18 Kids and Counting. (Jordyn Duggar wears them.) They are absolutely adorable! Our 10 month looks so cute in them and they really match her hair color.

These work for babies with not a lot of hair or a head full of hair. The creator of these says that the headband could even stretch to fit a two or three year old. It would be perfect for a one year old! This is a really cute and defintely unique gift! I really hope this works out for you! :)

I need help on gift ideas, and unique decorating, etc. It's my mom's birthday and we have rented a room at a resturant. What do you thonk of pictures of my mom during different satges - little girl, teen, wedding, etc? Thanks for all answers.

a picture board is a great idea- I did one for my moms 60th party and she had a great time showing off her pics to everyone! Go get one of those tri-fold display boards and put tons of pics of her throughout the years on it- or you can make a slide show and play it on someones laptop computer- whichever works better for you. For decorating I just used my moms favorite colors- pink, purple, and silver accents- we had fake flower petals scattered down the center of the tables and a set of pretty candles next to a vase of lillies. I also found small travel candles for 50 cents and had one of those at each table setting as a party favor for the guests. We had balloon arrangements all over the room and hung streamers and some birthday banners too. I had also found on Ebay a book all about the year she was born and we had that on the picture table so people could look through that also and I found a Life magazine from th week she was born on there too (I gave that as a gift to her and she loved it).
so as far as decorations- go with something that you think she would like, maybe vases of her favorite flowers all over, or make it a theme relating to her favorite hobby and decorate along those lines (gardening, bingo, quilting- whatever!) This is a good time also to get some family pictures taken so make sure to gather up the whole group before people start to leave to get some good family shots.

we read these books about a girl called Fancy nancy she loves to use big words like fabulous.Loves dressing up has a dog she dresses the dog up tothey have the dog and dress up clothes etc ..all little girls love dress up..we got her the dress to match the doll's

but my grandbaby loves these story books and they use such great vocabulary in them...she will sit and giggle for hours over her.

but here is the doll and the books are at target also...bonjour butterfly is one i cant remember all thier names..

A pop-up tent and/or tunnel. Our daughter has both, and totally loves them. They fold up neatly for storage, and are unique enough that someone else probably won't show up with the same gift. They are also useful for a long time (my six year old niece, my three year old niece, and my daughter all love to play with them!). We got our daughter's at Target.
One of our daughter's other favorite gifts that she has received is a little soft photo album, which we filled with pictures of her family. We put mom and dad, grandparents, aunts/uncles/cousins, and even a picture of our dog in it. She loves to look at the pictures, and can name everyone in them. It's a nice way for her to remember family members that live far away, and it's nice for her to have a photo album that I don't mind her carrying around!

What are good ideas for gifts for a one year old girls 1st bday?

Q. I have honestly never been to a birthday party for a baby or children. I just had a son who is 4 1/2 months old so now I am for the first time being invited to these types of things, I just received a invite for my cousins little girls 1st birthday and have no idea what kinds of things people usually get children this age. If you get toys, how do you know that they dont already have that toy? Any suggestions on a good gift I can take?

A. It's always a good idea to ask the parent if the child needs anything first. :-)

If they say no, clothes are always good at this age, because they can never have enough.

Or you could go with any brightly colored Interactive age-appropriate toy you see at the store. If you're worried they will already have it, keep the receipt in your purse just in case.

A. I went to Starbucks and got a lot of really cute things. I've seen a lot of really cute and inexpensive boxed jewelry at Fred Meyer stores. I bought my niece for her birthday at Trader Joes these French Truffles and her mom a cute little box of cookies from there and they loved them. Not sure where you are located but I love the store Ross and Kohls. They both have cute scarfs and beanie hats for super cheap you could pair up with some cookies or candy :)
