How can I make an easy to understand user's guide for Windows XP?

My mother is really computer illiterate. She wants to learn more about the computer than just playing solitaire and typing in websites.

That is what gave me the idea to make her an easy to understand user guide for basic functions of Windows XP, for programs such as Word, Firefox, Excel, etc.

Where can I find templates and information for this project? I'm hoping to make it up for a Mother's Day or Birthday gift for her.

You can buy a book called windows for dummies that is very simple to understand. If you are wanting to put something together yourself the book might give you some good ideas on how to present them. Also youtube has a heap of tutorials on all aspects of computering~~

Also, if you had $25-$50 dollars to spend there, what would you buy?

well i have no idea what your birthday gift is but i do know what i would buy! first i would buy tarte cheek stain i already have it but i want all the colors! haha i love it because its super fast and easy to apply also the color is so pretty and looks really natural.i have the color tipsy which looks very pretty on my beige skin.it costs around 30 dollars its kind of pricey but SO worth it! it last forever and is the best blush iv ever used.next i would buy too faced naked eye shadow pallet the colors are gorgeous and that costs about 35 dollars next i would buy urban decay primer potion.i really like it because it makes my eyeshadows stay on forever and makes the colors look really vibrant and that costs about 18 dollars. well i hope this helps! have fun! :)

I know this may sound rather odd, but I try to plan financially everything I do a year in advance in hopes to avoid any surprises in my checkbook. Anyways, what should I buy or make for people next year for their birthdays? I preferably want to give them a homemade gift (what are some creative ideas for homemade birthday gifts?), but if that's tasteless I'm open to almost anything.

My best friend will turn 44 years old

My brother, his girlfriend, and a friend will turn 19

Important friends will turn 21, 23, and 24

My boyfriend will turn 27

A dear male friend who's in prison will turn 23 yrs. old

A brother will turn 50 and a sister will turn 40.

My important nieces and nephews between 2-15

Daddy will turn 75 (my mom is deceased)

My other siblings and friends will receive birthday cards.

Thank you in advance as I greatly appreciate your input and advice.

Wow, organization like that is amazing (if a little scary). Only you know your friends, and your talents (some people should never bake anything for anyone), so suggestions really might not be so good.

For those that like them, how about candles? They are easy to make, all you need is some wax (even from old candles), crayons for color, string (dipped in the hot wax, curled around a pencil on one end, weighted with a coin for the bottom of the candle), scent (or unscented - some people like candles but gag @ the smell), maybe one of their favorites (can get samples sometimes, but oils work best), and a quart or half gallon waxed paper juice or milk carton. This also should prob be done in one of those disposable foil pans.

Melt the wax, adding the crayons, scent (or not). Stir. Cut off the top of the carton where it starts to fold, so that you have just the square. Rest the pencil with the string (wick) on top (the weighted end should be at the bottom of the carton. Pour a little wax in to fix the wick in place in the center of the carton. Give it a little time to solidify (about 20 min-1/2 hr. Stick the whole thing in the fridge or freezer if you want to move it along more quickly).

Get some ice cubes from the tray and fill the carton with them. Stir the wax again (the wax should be hot enough to pour). Then pour it into the carton over the ice cubes. Let it cool & set (give it a couple hrs minumum, overnight is best, or do the fridge thing. You don't want to stick this in the freezer or the water in the carton will re-ice). Peel away the carton.

The ice will have created pockets in the candle and it looks pretty cool, certainly not like a factory candle.

For your friend in prison, baked goods sound like the way to go, perhaps lots of cookies he can share. Or a cd?

Ok, I'm off to finish my Christmas shopping for this year, half of which is still undone!

Q. I was wondering what kind of cute and inexpensive things I could make for a 12 year old girl for her birthday party. Make a model of some sort! The easiest thing to do would be to make a papercraft model of what she likes. Whether she's flowers and rainbows or skulls and crossbones, there will definitely be something on the internet. If you do decide on this, you will need .rar and .pdo support: for .rar WinRAR http://download.cnet.com/WinRAR-32-bit/3000-2250_4-10007677.html and Pepakura for .pdo http://pepakura-viewer.software.informer.com/download/

.rar files give you templates for the model and .pdo files show 3D and 2D versions of the model, showing where the tabs join.

What are a good brand of pens to ink comics with?

Q. Alright, so one of my best friends is a great artist and is really into comics, so I thought a good birthday gift idea would be to buy him some good pens to work with. However, while I'm an artist too, I don't typically work in ink so I have no idea what kind to get for him. Does anyone have good suggestions? I'm working on about a $30-40 budget. Thanks for the help!

A. If he is already using a brand of pen, I wouldn't suggest you purchasing anything other than what he already uses. Artists tend to work most comfortably with the tools they know. The risk of you buying something else, for your friend is that he may put them away and never use them.

I have gone through years of using art pen nibs, crowquill, Rotrings, RapidOGraphs and many others, but, I finally settled on plain, old, ordinary, Sharpie Markers for what inking I still do on paper. They are clean, easy to use and, for drawing in the field, are readily replaceable at, virtually, any grocery or convienence store and bait shop all over the nation. If I needed a replacement Rotring, I'd have to go out and find an art supply or stationery store. There might not be one handy in the middle of the Mojave Desert, Yosemite Valley, or the Western shore of Lake Tahoe.

If someone asks me what kind of art supplies they can get for me, I ALWAYS suggest a gift certificate. That way, I can be sure to get EXACTLY what I need.
