Need ideas for getting a gift for a 21 year old female college student?

Here are the details. I am buying a birthday gift for this student, whom I don't know. She has no home of her own; she lives in a a home for children/young people because for various reasons they don't have a suitable home environment, and are now living in the group home run by a church denomination..

There are certain guidelines that I have to follow. The gift or gifts cannot cost more than $12. I don't know any clothing sizes so I can't buy anything like a shirt. I do not know what her hobbies or interests are. I would personally like to spend more than $12, but cannot because they want the gifts to be "even" - they don't want a child next month getting $50 in gifts while this child only gets $12.

I am probably leaving something out, so please feel free to ask questions. Thanks for specific ideas.

Answer
Our church did something like this for teens at Christmas time. We had guidelines too.

Try a dollar store. Put together a gift basket. Get things like a notebook (journal), pens, pencils, maybe some candy, a card & hair brush or small mirror.

What birthday gift to ask for 20th birthday, male?

Gennadiy P

I am guy, college student. My 20th birthday is June 28 and I started to think what gift to ask for.
Normally I receive money, but this time I want real gift :-)
I want something cool from electronics, like tablet or laptop or something cool.
No iPad, iPod, iSuck wanted. Have Evo 4G and listen to music on it.
Want some cool gift. When people give me money I store them all in bank and almost never spend.

Thanks for great ideas!

Answer
Get the Macbook Pro. I have it. It's amazing. And since your a college student it's perfect. If you're not a mac fan than I suggest you get a Toshiba Portege R835-P56X one of the best laptops according to CNET and my professor. And if you like video games, get a PS3 or 3DS. Oh yeah how about a car? Or a Moped. I have a Vespa GTS 300 Super.

My little sister is turning 18 next month, and I need a good idea for a gift. It can't be too expensive, as I am a college student. However, I want it to be nice and somewhat sentimental. She plays the piano, and loves everything piano music. Maybe I could make her a cute binder to organize all of her sheet music in? I don't know. Any ideas would be helpful. Is there something piano-esque that I could have her name embroidered on?

Answer
That sounds great!
I love piano as well, and if I were her, I'd very much appreciate that gift.

Hey there. I have a friend thats turning 21 and I have no idea what to get him. He's a college student studying criminology/political science. His other friend already gave him a book about CIA. I want to get him something maybe regarding his major but I'm not sure what. Any idea would be appreciated. The budget it's not big but I want him to remember it. Thanks!

Answer
It is not related to his major but it might help him with his studies! Lol. I'm sure he would remember this gift until he is old.

What would be a good birthday gift for your boyfriend if you haven't been dating very long?

I'm in college and the term "poor college student" defines me perfectly. No job+rent+classes = no money. I want it to be a cute, semi inexpensive gift because Christmas is right around the corner as well... Any ideas would be great!

Oh and I'm planning on making his favorite kind of cake for part of it.

Answer
I remember when I was in school and was really low on cash. For my boyfriend's birthday I made him dinner, birthday cupcakes, and then after excusing myself for a minute, reappeared with a bow tied around my neck that said happy birthday.
I smiled and said, "the best things in life are free! - happy birthday!" He was so thrilled and amused.
If you really want to get him something, a book, or a cd, will do. Put thought behind whatever you choose, and if he's a quality guy, he'll adore you for the gesture.

What should I get for my boyfriend of two years for his 22nd birthday?

anonymous

I want to get him something special for his birthday and I am completely at a loss. He loves music, art & good books. I thought about a turntable but I can't seem to find a high quality turntable for a reasonable price. I am a college student so I am on a budget, the max I can spend is about $250-300. Does anyone have any ideas? What was the best gift you've ever given or received?

Answer
Make the entire evening about him. Buy him a nice shirt, take him to dinner, maybe a movie that he likes or somewhere that he enjoys. Bake him a cake, even if you can't bake! It's the thought that counts, and a homebaked cake on your b-day is priceless. You could even make dinner and stay home. Give him a back rub. Make yourself pretty for him. Be sweet all night. Let him know that you want his night to be special like he is. Don't forget the card, and write something from your heart; don't just sign it. Good luck.

A. Ask everyone for feedback at the LIVE site
www.hurtpartner.com its a site about RELATIONSHIPS

What are good gift ideas for tight budgets?
Q. I'm a college student on a tight budget. Today is my best friend's birthday, and I'm going to see him in a week and a half (he goes to school about an hour and a half, 2 hours away from me). What can I make/buy him that won't break the bank? (He enjoys Futurama, canoe jousting, and he's a marine bio major, if it helps.)

A. I would go to a second hand shop like goodwill and purchase a basket - then I would go to the dollar store and fill it with all sorts of snacks and drinks.

Guys love food.

What should i get my younger sister for birthday? SHe is 19 and goes to college?

Q. I was gonna get her a Kinect but they are sold out everywhere locally. Her birthday is today and I was wondering if i can have some quick great gift ideas. Preferably electronics, no ipod/iphone/ipad stuff. Something different
SHe is not into hardcore gaming. I was gonna get kinect cuz it is fun and she liked Wii

A. The best thing you can by for her is a gift card, that way she can use it and purchase what she likes. As a college student, she can use the card to purchase items she needs for college because many students do not have a lot of money and a gift card can go a long way for something she needs for her personal use.

What are some gifts ideas for an incoming college freshman?
Q. My friend just graduated high school and is off to university in the fall. Her birthday is in August and her grad party is also coming up. What are some things I could get for her for under $75 that would be practical and helpful for her first year of college?

A. The bike and baskets are nice ideas, but college students are very limited on space and need to switch dorm each year.

I would go with a gift certificate, mini fridge (find out if her dorms allow it at the college website), desk lamp etc.

How to throw a surprise 18th birthday party in college?
Q. Any good ideas?? I go to USC in Los Angeles so any places around there, or we could do it in a dorm also. What can I do?

A. Email everyone an invitation to a toga party with a few pics on how to dress--or another theme. Depends on sex of birthday person and their interests and also quantity of guests. Ask a few people to help supply finger foods....chicken fingers, meat patties, mini quiche, wings, sausage puffs, crab or spinach dip or hummous & pita, cookies, cookies...birthday cake or cupcakes. A large peach punch...with or without alcohol, is more cost effective. You don't need a punch bowl...just juice pitchers from the dollar store and paper cups. Don't forget napkins and little plates and forks if there's cake. Everyone should take on a little responsibilty and chip in effort and you can coordinate the details and ask all communication to be through email/text, so that the birthday person is kept surprised. Have a couple of people on decoration detail. Even a couple of simple decorations can look festive. Buy a large birthday card which gets passed around in advance so that all well-wishers can sign it, plus some type of gag gift with an amusing, personalized story behind it to present in front of everyone. Have a person be in charge of music. Give a couple of pointers to each person in charge of their respective tasks, so they have some direction in what's expected. Have everyone send you a text/email, a day in advance assuring you that everything is fine and on schedule. Don't let anyone drive if they are tipsy. Check the party area and clear it of valuables, fragile items, loose rugs, and any other hazards. Warn students who could affected by the noise so they can opt to study elsewhere. Buy ice for the drinks and keep in a cooler.
