There are TONS of things you could make your mom. Here are some examples...
1. Origami- It might sound complicated, but there are websites and/or apps that can teach you how to fold origami. Origami flowers, cranes, animals, or other small things can be fun to look at, or sometimes even to use, like an origami box. They're simple, clean, and sometimes pretty challenging, but I can guarantee that whoever receives it will be delighted.
Materials: square paper, possibly glue and scissors, depending on the project.
2. Necklaces, bracelets, trinkets- This idea may sound childish, but if you have some really cool beads or strings/yarn at home, these three things are simple, fast, and fun to make. Whether it may be braiding a Chinese staircase with strings, or just looping beads into a little trinket.
Materials: beads, string and/or yarn, scissors, maybe even paper.
3. Collages, picture frames- these are usually given as gifts for special occasions such as birthdays or mother's day, but they can still be pretty decent as a little gift. Printing out pictures of your mom, your mom and her friends, you and your mom, etc. and then combining them together to make a picture collage can be cool, especially if you decorate it with origami or glue interesting crafts to the picture frame.
Materials: Pictures, glue, possibly paper, scissors, a picture frame (optional, you can glue them onto a piece of paper too), and markers/colored pencils/pens.

Guys also always love a good bite to eat, and the quickest way into their heart is through their stomach. Also, there's always the one simple thing that men love. Hi,
I've never killed a chicken myself, but I have watched it being done. When I was a kid, my dad's cousin Joe used to kill chickens on an old tree stump. All the innards went into a clay pipe, including the feet. He'd scald the chickens in a pot of almost boiling water, pluck them, and then his wife would prepare them for dinner.
Later in life, I had a friend who used to kill chickens by hanging them in a kill cone. She'd cut off their heads, let the blood drain well into a bucket, dip in water that was around 180 degrees, and then pluck them clean. I have helped pluck them clean.
I left some resources for you to look at to give you an idea of what to do. I know I learn best by reading and/or watching as I am a hands-on learner.
You also need to know the age of your bird so you will know the appropriate way to cook him when he's dressed out. If young, he's good for frying, but if old, then the stew pot for him! Either way, he'll taste mighty fine.
Back in the 70's & early 80's (like 1975-1981), I lived in a small town (the kind if you blink you'd miss it), and the owner of the little store would always let me know when he was going to have hens to butcher. I would get them for .49c a pound and they were the fattest and best tasting chickens I could get for the money. The stores at the time wanted around .59c a pound, and their chickens weren't nearly as tasty nor as fat. These chickens from this farmer/grocer had yellow fat all on the backsides and butt area. They made the best stews, chicken and dumplings, and chicken with homemade noodles. YUM!
That man is long dead and I haven't had a good fresh home-killed chicken in over 10 years.
I have the best story! Ten years ago this November, I was turning 40 years old, and a new friend, one whom I had met just that year, called me up and told me she wanted to give me a present for my birthday; would I like to have a chicken? She lives on 92 acres and raises chickens and beef cattle, and I said to her, Ellen, I live in town, they don't allow chickens. She began to laugh and told me it was a dressed chicken from her freezer! It was my turn to laugh~and I told her I'd love to have a chicken! Later that afternoon she showed up at my door with a frozen chicken out of her freezer that she and her husband had dressed out just a few weeks before. I think it is one of the best birthday gifts I have ever recieved in my life! Who in the world thinks to give others a dressed chicken from their own farm for their birthday? I loved that gift! That gift fed my family a pot full of chicken & dumplings.
I remember sharing this story with my adult Sunday School class at church the next week as I was so excited about that gift, and they all looked at me as if I'd grown two heads!!! I felt sorry for all of them as they could not see the lovelyness of getting such a from-the-heart gift. My friend's husband was laid off and they still had 4 kids at home, so you see what a from-the-heart gift this truly was.
It's too bad most people can't see the simple gifts in life and appreciate them. I love fresh from the farm chickens as they make the best meals. I need to find another source that I can buy from regularly like I used to do from that old farmer/grocer. You've brought back many memories!

First birthdays are so fun. My daughter just turned one a couple of months ago. Something really useful for a one year old is a 2-step step stool. If she isn't walking yet, she will be soon, and a step stool will help her claim her independence and start to do things for herself. 2. Go to a thrift store and get $10 of old videos, CDs, or books. Get something you would ordinarily not buy.
3.Go to a concert featuring someone new, someone with an interesting name.
4. Get a penpal in another country or state... I guess it would be email pal or someone on facebook etc
5. Clean out your closet and junk drawers, make a time capsule of things from your life that you want to keep, but that you can live without.
6. Do a random act of kindness each day and record it in your journal.
7. Try a new musical instrument, get private lessons if possible, or just rent one and play around with it for a month.
8. Get a how to video and try to follow the steps like how to paint a landscape in an hour, make a birdhouse, put together a flower arrangement.

Why can you add your gift registry to shower invitations, but not to wedding invitations?

1. It is acceptable etiquette to register for baby shower gifts and to include where you are registered on the invitation.

2. It is acceptable to register for bridal shower gifts and include the registry on the invitation.

3. It is acceptable to register for wedding gifts, but it is not acceptable to include this information on the invitation.

4. Is it acceptable to register for birthday gifts?

Does anyone have any idea why you can include registry info on some of these things and not on others, because I'm baffled?

You are not throwing your own shower and the purpose of a shower is to shower the bride with gifts. Therefore stating where she is registered is helpful. The bride and groom throw their own wedding and the point of a wedding is not to give gifts.

It is highly inappropriate to register for baby shower gifts for a 2nd or 3rd child. It is inappropriate to mention gifts in any way when you are inviting someone to an event. It makes a gift feel obligatory when it is not.

As for birthday parties, usually the birthday child makes a list. I don't know that we'd call it a registry as the gatherings are usually quite small. But for smaller gatherings, an invited person would usually call the mother and ask what the child's interests are this year.

We purchased these after seeing them on 18 Kids and Counting. (Jordyn Duggar wears them.) They are absolutely adorable! Our 10 month looks so cute in them and they really match her hair color.
